This elegant little hotel is in the very central but quiet neighborhood of Aventino Hill. Sandwiched between the Tiber and the Circus Maximus, it is a perfect antidote to the crazy and crowded historical city center. You can walk to all the major sites easily as well as take advantage of Aventino sights like the Malta keyhole and the glorious Parco della Arancia with sweeping views of Rome. The rooms, gardens and communal spaces are very elegant and the perfect coffee or cocktail bar is right in the lobby. Breakfast was very good and starts early, at 7. They have sat least one sister hotel on the Hill as well, with a very good restaurant . We had a super early flight out at the front desk was very kind and arranged a car. I would definitely stay here again and again.

The service was amazing each of the staff was extremely accommodating. Riccardo was very knowledgeable about the history of Roma and went over and beyond to ensure or vacation was better than planned.

I hate to say anything bad. Please forgive me for saying the bed was extremely hard which made it extremely uncomfortable. This was also an issue for other travelers in our party. A new type of mattress should be considered.

Such a lovely location in a quiet, mainly residential area. Breakfast was very good . Staff were very helpful. Dinner at their nearby hotel was lovely in a beautiful setting.

I think European beds are a fair bit firmer than what we're used to!

The staff are amazing,from check in to breakfast. Even though we didn't see the cleaners, they were amazing also. Our room was attended to every day. We were early for check in and our room wasn't ready so they took our bags and recommended restaurants at the bottom of the hill. (Hill is a killer to walk back up 😂) We went to Osteria San Giorgio Restaurant and the food was really good and the staff were lovely. When we came back to check in, our bags were already in our room and we received a welcome drink (non alcoholic) and it was so refreshing and we were shown to our room. One of the nights here, we did ask about food and was told the kitchen was closed for 2 weeks as they are on holiday, so that was a bit disappointing. The Colosseum is about a 20 minute walk. The key hole is right around the corner from this hotel and the Orange park too. The Orange park is a must if you like to watch the sunset, it's beautiful. We went there for about 8pm. Overall I can't fault this hotel. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely stay. 😊

San Anselmo is a wonderful small hotel set in its own orange gardens at the top of the Aventine hill. It is a peaceful retreat away from the noise of the city but only a short walk to the main ancient ruins, the Tiber and some of Rome's principal piazzas. The park-like Aventine has its own unique attractions, as well as number of restaurants and shops. within easy walking distance. Public transport is also accessible nearby. My room was huge and beautifully appointed with a terrace surrounded by orange trees. Among the hotel's public spaces, many of which open out into the gardens, are an elegant sunny breakfast room where a lavish breakfast is served, a number of small bar areas and a wonderful wood-paneled library. The garden itself contains clusters of benches, tables and chairs. Everything seems beautifully designed to make guests feel welcome, comfortable and exceptionally well attended to. But this atmosphere is also in large part due to the wonderful staff who were always gracious, informative, and ready to help with anything.

Hotel location was in a peaceful area on top of Aventine hill. Good restaurants were nearby. Scenic areas were a short walk away. Shops, stores, restaurants, delis and parks were a sort walk down the hill. It had close proximity to Circus Maximus events. Hotel staff were the best. They were very friendly, helpful and courteous. Hotel rooms were well decorated and comfortable. Snacks and drinks in the room refrigerator were very convenient. Breakfast has a very good selection with the option to have some prepared eggs and pancakes, etc.

The room temperature was a little difficult to control. The bathroom with a jacuzzi tub/shower was difficult to climb in/out of without slipping.

My wife and I had a truly wonderful stay at Hotel San Anselmo. It's a peaceful and picturesque retreat that feels like a little piece of paradise. The garden is absolutely lovely and provides a sense of tranquility that was so nice to come back to after exploring the city. The staff were exceptional—every single person we interacted with was kind, professional, and went out of their way to be helpful. The gentleman who helped us, Vincenzo, was particularly thoughtful and provided service that was truly five-star. The breakfast was also fantastic with a great selection to start our day. Our room was beautiful, with comfortable beds and a wonderful shower. The location is perfect for couples, offering a quiet escape while still being a short walk or taxi ride from all the main sights. We highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to return on our next trip to Rome!

Stayed from the 5th-9th. I liked the whole ambience of the place. I enjoyed the Breakfast; a wide selection of Breakfast foods and drinks. The staff were professional in every way. The neighbour was generally quiet. Walking distances to the sights was achievable if you are fit enough, but try to go, at any other time of the year than in Summer.

Well, the tax you have to pay at check out, ends the good vibes, even though I was expecting it. An iron and board would be handy. As for TV, CNN was the only English speaking station and you had to search for it.

A beautiful historical building, located in a quiet neighborhood, quite close to the historical center yet away from the hustle and bustle typical of a crowded tourist city like Rome—perfect for evening strolls. Just steps away from the hotel is the "Buco della serratura dell'Ordine di Malta." The staff is very kind and helpful. Upon arrival, we received a complimentary room upgrade, and I must say we probably had the most wonderful hotel room ever—a room that transported us back in time, evoking the era of the old nobility. A varied and rich breakfast served on-site, with a restaurant nearby at another location of the same chain. All in all, an amazing experience; I wholeheartedly recommend San Anselmo.

Everything was excellent.

We loved out beautifully decorated Standard Double room with a spacious bathroom. We had a nice view of an orange tree out of our window. The service was excellent throughout. The continental breakfast was nice, with some gluten-free options. The bar area of the hotel is very cosy in the evening or during the day. The location was handy for the sightseeing: a 25-minute walk to the Colosseum, and a 10-minute walk to the stop of the Hop-on Hop-off tourist buses. The hotel is quite close to a couple of streets full of restaurants (a 10-15 minute walk). Look out also for a curious (and free!) attraction just around the corner from the hotel - the Aventine Keyhole, where you can take a photo after a bit of queuing.

We struggled to adjust the thermostat in the room, which was set to a very warm +23C. The plumbing next door had noisy pipes - they were very loud whenever someone used the shower in another room, but it is an old building!
