The 4 bed mixed dorms were way better than the 6 bed mens dorms. I was fortunate to be in a room with very clean and tidy people. The staff is awesome. No nonsense, all business and straight to the point.

The smell in rooms. On my first stay everyone had their shoes in the room so it stunk up the room. On my second stay I saw everyone was leaving their shoes outside so the room remained fresh. I think having a shoe rack outside the rooms would be awesome. I wasn’t worried about people stealing my shoes whilst they were outside because there’s CCTV cameras everywhere.

5min walk to the Sky Tower, location is the main value. The building of the hostel is old and felt like it was refitted from an office. Very bare bone, but staffs were friendly. Ok for short stay.

Don't like the central air conditioning and the lack of window access to fresh air. Felt like I was bunking in an office or hospital building. Basically zero sound proof due to the thin partition wall, I can hear the girls next to my room talking in normal volume.

+ The place was reasonably clean and well maintained, of course it's not the newest of buildings but it's perfectly fine. + It was rather quiet in the room, not much noise from other rooms or outside - There is not a lot of space for dining and cooking, so when you hit the "rush hours" it's kind of a problem. - Mechanical ventilation works all the time in rooms and it gets cold

I stayed there twice (one night only each time). The location was very good -- close to everything I needed downtown. I paid for private rooms both times. Well worth the price and very clean. The double/queen-sized bed was extremely comfortable! I liked the views of Auckland both times (from the 9th and 10th floor). The lobby area is very comfortable, and it looked like the guests were having a great time down there! James was very friendly and helpful when checking me in.

I wish the reception desk had been open more hours. When I arrived, I had to wait over an hour to get checked in because the staff was on break. The following morning, I needed assistance after accidentally locking myself out of my room, and I had to wait two hours until someone arrived. The first time I stayed, the twin bed was very squeaky.

As an older traveller who has stayed in many Back Packer over the years it was what I expected. Single room with shared Bathroom so nothing fancy. In need of a bathroom make over but for 1night it was ok. It was surprisingly quiet, not alot of noise. The location was great bused from the Airport so a short walk to Choice.

I like my stay at Choice Backpackers. I enjoy meeting everyone from around the Globe. I like the Supermarket nearby.

I enjoy my time at Choice Backpackers. I enjoy eating in the dining area with the view of the city and the cars passing by. I enjoy my view from the bedroom window.

Great value for money, rooms have extra floor space that other hostels would put extra beds in. Plenty of fridge and food storage space.

Some beds lack a headboard so pillow falls off bed, frustrating when on top bunk. Was in 2, 4 bed rooms. Both had 2, 2 power outlets so accessible to bottom bunk but not top. Also an issue if people are using chunky plug adapters. Bathrooms functional but very dated.

Location was great, so were the rooms and so was the staff!

There’s only 10 chairs in the dining room (for a lot more of people staying in the hostel) which means that pretty often, when you’re done cooking you have to wait standing up in the dining room for someone to leave and take their chair

Have a great ubication, the best of the hostel is the big connection that you can make during your stay there, if you are travel as vacation, WHV or your plan is connect with other people is the cheaper place!

The fridge zone and kitchen isn't the better place but is the common area with whole guest, so sometimes smell little bad and the kitchen are dirty, even though you can drope your things in the fridge (any with space) and cook.

Not bad at all. I truly enjoyed my stay here. Quiet, clean, cheap. Well organised. Anyone leaving bad reviews expect too much and clearly haven’t been to Surf n Snow, aka The Hell Hostel.
