Beautiful hotel centrally located in the heart of New Plymouth, close to CBD, beach and Pukekura Park. I loved the boutique style of the hotel, nice interior with great art, comfortable guest lounge, as well as a beautiful room. Got a lot of information and had nice chats with owner and manager Luke. Free parking is a plus, great restaurant downstairs if you wish to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Will definitely stay there again when I have a chance!

Bathroom maybe missing a few storage options, but that wasn't really a problem.

There's so much to like about this boutique hotel: great location, inside is decorated with loads of art, curios and furnishings which lend it a charming 'old world' atmosphere. The room was compact - which was fine for a single traveller - and very neat and tidy. Great shower and air con. The bathroom fan noise was very low, and the small fridge was silent, which is unusual (both are often annoying in short-stay accommodation). One of the best things about The State Hotel is the very personal service. AJ took my request for a "quiet room" very seriously - which I knew up-front would be a challenge given the location - and did his very best to accommodate the request. I was happy with the room I was assigned.

Nothing major and none are deal-breakers for me for future stays. The bed appeared to be comfortable at first but each morning I awoke with a slightly sore back, which is something I don't normally experience. Also, I caught the beginning of Americarna - unintentionally - and The State Hotel was in the firing line for people revving their engines, being on the main drag. I will be checking the dates to avoid events in future. I missed having a small table to rest the laptop on.

Situated in the centre of bustling New Plymouth this iconic hotel is beautifully appointed with all the modern comforts paired with a nod to its historical roots. Carefully curated art and furniture add to the feeling of opulence without the glitzy aftertaste . The owners who we were fortunate to meet have a client service focus ( and it showed !!) authentic couple who’s vision will no doubt grow the reputation of this fabulous hotel. Of note it is right in the city so all the usual noises are present - a small thing in comparison to all the positives . Good location at the top end of town, with parking no problem in one of two off-site parking lots. The hotel has a lot of charm and character in its decor and furnishings. The corner room was a comfortable guest lounge which we used at the end of the day for a drink before heading out for dinner. As well as kettle, fridge and microwave, the room had plates, bowls and cutlery.

The room was pretty small, with almost no storage space, so everything had to stay in the suitcase. The bed was only a double, and one side was hard against the wall. The bathroom had no bench space around the small sink, and only one hook to hang a towel. As a couple, we found it quite tight and squeezy, and we are pretty small people. We wouldn't have wanted to stay for any longer than our two nights.

We loved the hotels overall style. Luke was lovely and welcomed us. We were given a king room even though we had booked a double which was a nice surprise. The bed was comfortable, the shower nice and powerful and the aircon was great as the sun was directly on our room in the evenings. We also enjoyed eating at Joe’s Garage which is below the hotel.

Nothing really. The only thing I would mention is be careful when you park behind the hotel…we got blocked in as we had parked in the second space closest to the building. There is a space opposite which had an estate car parked and what with a long van the other side of us we really struggled to get out. We did get out but had to move back and forth a couple of cm’s at a time!!

Room and bathroom were a little small but very well appointed. The bed was super comfy and large. The hotel looks newly refurbished and the decor is quite original and interesting.

I don't like "checking in" online much, and calling a manager on duty to get into the lobby. However, the call was attended immediately and we were swiftly let in and also greeted by a staff shortly after. I am not a fan of the glass door (even though sanded) between the bathroom and bedroom, as it lacks privacy.

The rooms were nicely furbished, everything looked new and clean. Surprisingly quiet. Fantastic location, could walk out the door and choose from a large number of restaurants and fast food joints. Supermarkets just down the street. Would highly recommend. Owner was fantastic.

There is no elevator/lift which could be a problem for people who can't handle the stairs. The owner carried my suitcase for me even though I could carry it myself. Great service

Check in was enjoyable as we met Luke in the small but luxuriously-decorated foyer. He escorted us upstairs past an eclectic collection of art, to a very comfortable room. Room has an individual AC unit so we could set the temperature to our own preference. The bed was comfortable, especially the pillows. The bathroom was just lovely, I especially appreciated that the quality of the bathroom products, conditioner etc, are much better than you usually get. We had a great stay and we dined at Joe's Garage downstairs, appreciating the 10% discount when we showed our room keycard. Top marks - we would definitely stay here again.

The rooms are beautifully appointed with everything you might need. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the bed was really comfortable. Fabulous central location close to everything New Plymouth has to offer. The room was quite snug, but it was just me, and I only needed a place to sleep, so it suited me. Plus, the hotel messaged me a few days before to advise that the room was smaller, and if I wanted to move to a larger one, I could. I would definitely stay here again.

Was up-graded to King size which worked well for a 2 night stay. Nice welcome note on arrival. Very clean and nice colour palate. Enjoyed the guest lounge too. Great location for walking everywhere. Loved the art and point of difference. Free car parking a bonus.

Bathroom was lovely but a tight fit, could do with an extra towel hook/shelve. Only received 1 towel each for 2 day stay and a women always need more towels.
