Dorms with good amount of privacy thanks to curtains Central location

There was one long term guest in our room (bed 22 D) who was bothering. He came home late and started singing in the dorm the middle of the night. Staff at reception seemed to be aware of him but not taking any steps to kick him out of the hostel...

The room was spacious, and had a kettle and fridge, which was fantastic. Shared bathroom was fine, and the kitchen was very well stocked.

We requested a double bed, which they weren't able to provide, so we ha twin beds. We pushed them together, but the matresses are very slippy on the bases, so this was not very comfortable. Even twin beds with a double sheet and quilt woul dave been much better. A suggestion for improvement would be to add a couple of hooks in the bedroom, to hang towels to dry. The room also had dead flies in the corners, so clearly had not been cleaned very well. Also, a couple of times when I went down to reception mid-morning there was noone there, even after a 5 minute wait. A bell or something to get someone's attention would be a good addition.

I loved the Kitchen and communal space. They had a nice sofa, sitting area and kitchen. I've been in a few Hostels and I think they had a great community space where you can relax and meet people (if you wanted to do that). The kitchen was big, loads of equipment and everything you needed to make food. The rooms itself was really nice. It was clean, modern with really comfortable beds. I was very pleasantly surprised by the rooms. I loved the location. You walk for 5 minutes out of the hostel and you are with right by some of the hot springs (a bit smelly).

We unfortunately went during a school trip, so our neighbours were young teens, which just meant that it was loud in the evening, before they slept and in the morning when they were getting ready to go. They did a lot of talking and running in the halls outside. Nothing to do with the hostel, but it just meant that the walls might be a bit thin. The Toilets were okay. I felt like they could have been a bit cleaner, or maybe more regularly cleaned? The room was also quite warm (Which is a good thing during winter), so we slept with the windows open. Our room was next to the car park. Unfortunately we had some early starters and the sound of the cars starting woke us up. This is very nick-picky. It was a great stay and would stay there again.

Location, it was quiet in a busy town and super clean and friendly. (My only beef was with some of the other "travelers" who need to look up the definition of "respectful behaviour" The staff, especially the kitchen staff, were delightful. Thank you, mr. Ron for your insights when we were chatting about the Te Matatini competion.

Other guests!.. Some of the young women travelling have no concept of sharing rooms: come back in the middle of the night @ 3am, switch all the lights on and giggle loudly whilst rummaging through the luggage. Yes, you 2 (Swedish?) dollybirds in room 40 - 22 & 23 of February 2025. Also in the bathrooms: when you use the paper towels: throw them in the bin after!!! Don't just leave them everywhere to be cleaned up after your lazy asses. The doors close with bang, this can be countered by holding it whilst it closes - too difficult a concept for some of the inconsiderate specimen of travelers.

I came to Rotorua for volunteering work and due to the location and facilities I chose Haka House. I stayed in a mixed 4-bed dorm, the bead were super comfortable and well designed so you would get enough privacy. Also the room had two lockers to store big luggage as well as smaller valuables, which was really useful. You have to bring your own lock tho! The bathroom was spacious and clean. The common area and kitchen was well designed and perfect to fit a lot of people, so it was easy to store food in cabinets and the fridge. Outside, there even was a freezer provided! Around the corner were some bus stops to get you around as well as restaurants and some shops. I would definitely stay again in the hostel.

cheap and central. looked good in the photos. we stayed as a family of 4. two adults and two children aged 5 and 7. they liked the bunk beds with curtains and little shelves and built in lights.foosball table was fun.

navigating to our room was very difficult, through a rabbit warren of doors corridors, inside and outside and up and down stairs with 3 check-in luggage bags and 2 kids was not easy. many doors were marked as 'no exit' so navigating the facility was frustrating. some corridors and our room has a musky smell on arrival. there was rain during our stay and the leaky dripping downpipe outside our room woke me up and disturbed my sleep. it would be good to have some labels and textas provided for labelling food.

Comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, good showers, easy entrance, very tasteful deco, cool communal spaces and ideal for getting into town. Also parking was free if you parked across by the park outside the CBD zone.

The fire doors are quite noisy when they shut which disturbs sleeping. We had some idiots come back drunk on Friday night and throw up in the bathroom at 1.30 am. Not much Haka House can do but it’s a risk you take. The other 2 nights were fine.

Rooms were very nice, beds spacious, all the amenities we could need, great location in town we were able to walk to pretty much everything we wanted.

We stayed two seperate nights here. As a group of 4 we were able to booked a 4 bed room so we wouldn't be with strangers which was great. The first night, our room had a problem with the electricity, none of the power in the room would work. The employees tried there best but it wasn't a problem that could be fixed that night. We got relocated, as it was last minute we weren't able to all be in the same room, which it's a hostel and that's just what happens. Not a complaint just an annoyance. Our second night went perfectly.

The room was a cozy size but really liked that the bed had a curtain by the bed to have some privacy in the dorm room and some power sockets yo charge my phone/computer. The common room was really spacious and had plenty of space for you to enjoy with others or by yourself. Also, the hostel Is right in the heart of the city so it’s a perfect location to everything!

You can hear the guests in the adjacent room quite clearly, which was a bit distracting when trying to sleep/rest. It would be great to have a hand towel in the toilet too.

Loved that it was right in town, modern facilities, check in was quick, no bond required, shared kitchen was well equipped, outside dining area was relaxing, showers had good pressure beds were comfy and private, I had a bunk bed in a 2 dorm with private bathroom, had curtains to pull across for privacy, lamp shelves and plugs in your sleeping area. Provided with sheeting, toilet paper, shower wash, had wash and dry facilities for laundry, provided sheets and blanket and pillow. Be good to have an extra throw for added warmth as no heating in rooms.

Was right next to one of the main door entrances and could hear the door open and close, is quite a heavy door, could also hear people walking up the stairs heavily. Could also hear the washer and dryer cycles .Cleaning was basic.
