Breakfast was ok, got quite busy at times, usual fare but done well. Bacon and omelettes cooked to order but always a queue. Bottles of cava some days. Overall pretty decent. The outside pools were very nice, with great views 270 degrees out to sea. Pools were all very clean. Bubble jets in the pools were a nice touch. Outside pools were salt water but the spa pool was chlorine. Evening food was a but hit and miss. Madeiran night was very good with huge amounts of fresh seafood, the vegetarian night however was pretty poor. Moroccan restaurant was ok, nice enough food but a bit dark and dingy. The Mira Mar restaurant at the sister hotel was very good with a lovely setting in a garden courtyard. Hotel gardens were incredible, and impeccably manicured. There is a children's play area which may be new as it doesn't feature on any photos on the website, just a small slide and swings and playhouse but enough to keep the kids occupied whilst you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the gardens at sunset. Great location, not in the middle of Funchal but still has the Forum shopping centre right nearby, plenty of restaurants and bars, the seafront promenade literally on your doorstep and Doca Do Cavacas swimming pools around the corner. Overall, a very nice hotel, lacking the finesse and luxury of an actual 5 star but nothing to complain about and good for families.

Lacking some of the finesse and luxury of an actual 5 star. Drinks were fairly expensive, 4.5Euro for a 750ml bottle of water at dinner was excessive. Booking the a la carte restaurants was nigh on impossible, arrived on Tuesday and they were all fully booked for the rest of the week. Kids menu at the a la carte restaurants was pretty poor and unimaginative (pizza and burger). Family room was a single room with big double, a sofa bed and trundle bed next to it. Would have preferred if this was made clearer at booking.

Staff were very friendly, special mention to Sofia in Guest Services she was very friendly, very knowledgable and accomodating always looking for ways to help and improve your visit in Madeira. The hotel is in a great location close to shops and restaurants and only about 10 minutes away in a taxi from Funchal centre. There's also buses regularly going past on the main road with great connections. The view from the hotel is fantastic as it's right by the coast, very beautiful!

For us personally the mattress was very firm but this is a personal choice as we're used to a soft mattress back home. The lady that serviced our room did her best to improve this for us by adding a topper to our mattress which was very thoughtful of her. The layout at breakfast doesn't flow very well in our option but there was plenty of choices so that was good. Some of the decor such as carpets in hallways need upgrading as they're a bit tired but the hotel is generally nice and kept clean.

Overall we received a very warm welcome at Pestana Grand Ocean Resort Hotel. The staff at the reception and in the buffet were helpful, friendly and generous. Our stay started with a welcoming glass of Madeira wine and we received a breakfast with us at 1 am when we were leaving to catch a 4 am flight. On my birthday I was pleasantly surprised to receive a bottle of champagne and soft drinks with warm wishes on present card from the hotel manager. The facilities were well equipped and clean. The food was excellent.

A yoga teacher was grumpy and told me off when my little daughter came to me and whispered something during the lesson - not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel staff.

First room we booked online wasn't what we were expecting. Luckily we managed to upgrade to the master suite and this was something to remember. Fabulous views and very clean and comfortable beds.

First family room we stayed in. Pillow cases had brown marks around. Bed where two single beds next to each other and very uncomfortable mattresses.

All in all, the hotel was in a great location. the property was well maintained, and the food was great. As for the pools were great although we did not use the pool facilities. We enjoyed the walks along the pathway outside the hotel property along the ocean that led to downtown Funchal.

There was nothing to dislike about Madeira Island. It is a very beautiful island. There are so many things to see and do there. We did an all-day tour of the east end of the island, and it was fascinating. The beauty is all around you to see. We are hoping to go back to Madeira Island to tour the west end of the island. I know that we will not be disappointed.

It was our first time visiting Madeira, and we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Although we unfortunately missed dinner on our first night, the young gentleman at reception welcomed us warmly with an aperitif and kindly informed us that dinner had been arranged for us in our room. It was exactly what we needed after our journey. Our room was well-suited for three people, with two comfortable beds for my wife and me, and an additional bed for our daughter. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, offering a wide variety of options to choose from. The hotel grounds were absolutely beautiful—immaculately clean, with an abundance of vibrant plants and flowers creating a truly lovely atmosphere.

I had a very beautiful room with amazing views of the ocean and garden. It was very convenient that from the backyard of the hotel there is access to a path along the ocean, where you can run or just walk. There is a beautiful beach nearby. Relaxing near the pool is also very convenient; next to it there is a garden and grass on which you can place your sun lounger overlooking the ocean. Excellent access 5 minutes walk to Forum shopping center.

At first they gave me a very strange room overlooking the backyard, the exit from the underground parking and the road on the ground floor, for some reason with a kitchen, and the room did not look like a guest room, but rather like a staff room. This was not what I booked. But at my request, they quickly changed my room and I was very pleased. I want to say thank you for that. The hotel is a little old and if they could renovate it soon, it would be great. But, it should be noted that only the public areas of the hotel look old, and the rooms are in excellent condition and very well equipped. The air conditioning also worked great.

The staff was super helpful, and we enjoyed the terrace/pool very much.

The spa opens at 4 PM, which unfortunately didn’t align with our schedule, as we tended to spend our afternoons and evenings out. We had hoped to use it in the mornings after breakfast, but it wasn’t operational at that time. It would be much more accommodating if the hotel offered more flexible hours or allowed guests to request spa access outside the set schedule. After all, guests have different plans but are all paying for the same amenities.

Excellent staff. Beautiful views. Good facilities. Excellent specialty dining options.

Property in need of painting externally, very stained. Didn’t like the self service dining. Cheap cuts of meat used. Dress code e.g. no shorts in specialty dining not adhered to which is very poor for a hotel which is supposed to be 5*

We travelled with two teenage kids and we were very happy. The customer service was perfect. We were extremely happy with the assistance provided by Sofia. The staff at the reception were also helpful and kind. Our rooms were cleaned every day spotlessly. Staying at Pestana Grand made our holiday at Madeira very enjoyable. Overall we were very happy and we intend to stay at Pestana hotels in the future.
