This hotel was located in the private area around St. George Castle, near Alameda. It was a elegant hotel, but a little dated. We found the room with the balcony more than comfortable and the staff took great pride in all services they offered. The hotel and room was spotless, the breakfast was ample and good. The reception hosts offered us good and helpful tips for visiting in Lisbon, to include riding Tram 12 in lieu of the crowded 28 on the same route/line, and recommendation of a traditional Portuguese restaurant a short walk away. We felt safe and comfortable in the hotel and found it quiet and restful with an excellent view. We were fortunate to obtain one of their garaged parking places (only 2 spots) attached to the hotel otherwise, parking may have been a problem. We must recommend the restaurant closest to the hotel, Gosta do Castelo, as it is excellent!

Although we were given clear instructions of how to get into the private area, it was somewhat tedious for English speakers to use a call tower to the City Hall to provide a code for access. The streets are quite narrow with many pedestrians; it would be easier to arrive via taxi. The photos in the listing do make the rooms/balcony appear larger than they are, but we were not crowded.

Our room had a fantastic view over Lisbon which also included seeing the sunset. The room was big, the beds very comfortable, good size modern bathroom. It was very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was very close to the castle.

There was nothing we didn’t like about the hotel. The only drawback was that there were only 2 parking spaces which you are not able to reserve. As we had a car we didn’t find it easy to drive to a public parking garage which was an 8 minute walk away. However you are in the historic area with small cobbled streets not designed for cars. It would not stop me staying there again.

Comfortable room with lovely view. Location fine for us, close to the castle. Staff very friendly. Reasonable choice of restaurants in close proximity.

Location ok for us but its proximity to the castle meant that it was a fairly taxing walk back to the hotel from the downtown areas, especially if you're not particularly mobile. Breakfast ok, but a bread toaster would have been nice. Not much choice of hot breakfast items and a different egg option would have been nice as I'm not a fan of scrambled egg and as a vegetarian some days there was no other hot breakfast item available.

Location in the middle of the old area was great - we could walk to everything. Very clean and comfortable with a nice breakfast

Beware if driving to the hotel parking; we had great difficulty getting into the street by car; earlier in the day we requested the code for the pillar to allow us access to the street and were told to email or phone the reception. The email bounced back and they don’t have WhatsApp (!) so we were stuck in a very narrow street with vehicles and trams honking at us - quite stressful but also amusing once we got out of the situation. We ended up having to find a car park and then walk to the hotel to get the code. The staff at reception were unapologetic and simply told us that they don’t have WhatsApp; no sympathy for our situation. Overall a nice hotel but the staff were a bit blank; no cheery good morning at breakfast etc which seems odd for a hotel of this rating.

This was the fifth time over the last 10 years that I have stayed in the Olissippo Castelo Hotel and the fifth time that it has suited my needs perfectly. The room was spacious, immaculately clean with a gorgeous view of the city. The staff was efficient and friendly. The location, for me, was perfect since it was removed from the street noise and tourist traffic below but easily accessible via stairs accessible about a half a block from the hotel. One caveat: if you have difficulty walking or do not want the exercise, there is a street car that available close to the hotel.

No issues

The hotel location, terrace, and city view were fantastic. There are also options with bathtubs instead of just a shower - liked it. A breakfast option was quite good.

The hotel is in the old part of the city, so be ready to walk and climb many hills. For a taxi, it is hard to arrive closer to the building. Everything else was good.

Room was an excellent size. Very comfortable with a fabulous view. Breakfast was very good - but the same every day. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Location might be a problem for some people. Lisbon is very hilly, and the hotel is at the top of a fairly steep climb. You certainly get your 'steps' in every day. The restaurant doesn't really do meals in the evening. There is room service available but it tends to be 'snacky' things. However there are LOTS of lovely restaurants within easy walking distance.

This is not large hotel but is located right below Saint George's Castle upon a hill. You can reach many fun spots walking down, though returning back to hotel is a bit challenging. Expect to walk a lot in Lisbon up and down the hills. Room was large, comfortable, with very nice view. Clean specious bathroom with everything you expect in it. Breakfast was nice with acceptable choice for the hotel of this seize. You will eat pretty much the same food every morning.

What I did not like and initially felt like a fraud are the pictures showing open-balcony, like roof-top balcony, where breakfast is served overlooking a city. In my view it was a big selling point for this hotel. In reality, only few rooms have open balconies and the breakfast is served in the hotel lobby.

Large, very comfy single beds. Nice bed linen. Good towels and robes Large bathroom. Breakfast OK. Good pastries. Same thing every day. No fresh bananas or apples. Friendly, helpful front of house staff. Initially didn't like area but actually turned out to be great. Loved the Sa toma area on the right. Easy walk into main square and then train station. 10-15 mins.

Booked hotel that specified a kettle in room as we don't drink coffee. Had to ask for one as none present. Took some tea cups up from breakfast as tiny coffee cups useless. Cleaners took the lot later, coffee; tiny cups the lot. Bizarre! Had to ask again for cups. Got tiny coffee cups 🤦‍♀️ View OK but I mostly just saw the bins really, which were moved/ clattered often or emptied at midnight. Could hear neighbours sadly in other rooms but neighbourhood quiet.(if you ignore bins!)

It’s location , near St Jorge castle, restaurants any way walk to with in 2-3 blocks both directions. View of the city was incredible.

I did the booking for the 3 rooms, 1 couple were put in an up scale large suite on the top floor with amazing views. The second couple asked to switch their room as it smelled musty upon entry. I went to the desk with her and they received an upgraded room with a balcony. My husband and I received the basic room I originally booked for all 3 of us, first floor, no perks. Just disappointing, for us. The rest of the party was quite pleased.
