This was our second stay at 1872 and we were not disappointed. The hospitality remains excellent. All staff were super friendly and polite. Breakfast was very good, and the gentleman that made us bacon and eggs was really good, he even addressed us by name, and I am embarassed to say I didnt ask his name. He made sure we had a takeaway breakfast as we were leaving very early in the morning. Location is just where we like to be, right on the riverside overlooking Gaia and all the port houses. It is so nice to sit at the little balcony watching the boats go by, and you can also see the cable cars go up and down across the river. The Luis bridge is also visible from the balcony. The room is well lit and bed comfortable, and is serviced daily. Tea and coffee and draught beer are available for guests anytime. Choose the room with the river view if you can, thats the one we go for and the view is excellent. Thank you so much for hosting us again. We will be back again soon!

1872 has a wonderful location directly on the river. It was great walking along the riverfront and crossing the bridge to the other side where many of the port houses are located. We were in the smallest room in the guesthouse facing the city view which was directly facing the building across the narrow walkway. It was comfortable and clean but hadn’t no view and parts of the wc were in the room. I would reserve a room with a river view next time. The breakfast was served in the lounge area on the ground floor. It was lovely. Lots to choose from and eggs and bacon made to order. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Parking was a tad difficult for us. We parked in the underground city lot which was expensive and up the hill a bit. It was manageable and we would stay here again. Great location once you are in.

Had a lovely stay. Friendly and helpful staff. Great room, but no river view as none available for the dates of our stay. Would recommend a river view room if one is available. Great location for everything - Do check out the church opposite. The interior of the church is absolutely breathtaking. The Breakfast Room was nicely set each morning with brilliant river views to enjoy. We also enjoyed our welcome drink of port there, and there's free Bock on tap for guests to help themselves to!

No tea or coffee making facilities in room but available 24/7 from lounge. Breakfast buffet is a bit repetitive if you are staying a few nights - same and limited fresh fruit and cake selection each day.

We spent 4 nights in the 'Superior Room with River View' and it was perfect! The view was like looking out from a boat; you're completely surrounded by the river. When the weather was bad, we passed the time drinking coffee/beer in the hotel and looking out at the lovely view. This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to so many nice restaurants and lively areas as well. And the staff is so so friendly!

Not much to complain about, the A/C fan was noisy but we really didn't need to use it, just opened some windows for a nice breeze. Also the shower was a bit tricky but it wasn't a big deal.

Staff were lovely. Beautiful communal breakfast/coffee lounge overlooking the river. Great breakfast options too. Bedroom was simple and comfortable with a great view. Very comfortable bed. Location was perfect.

The shower was hard to get the right temperature. It was either boiling hot or cold. Took a while for it to run medium hot. And this is not super important, but the TV didn't work properly. There was no signal so none of the channels worked.

Location is fantastic, and our room was lovely. Very comfortable bed. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Cleanliness was exceptional. Breakfast was lovely.

Some facilities could be improved. The fridge in the room didn’t work very well, and there was no facility to get milk late in the evening when staff weren’t on site. TV at the end of the bed felt a bit weird.

a cozy little retreat, with a direct and wonderful full view of the Douro from Don Luis bridge down to the Arrábida bridge - even a good view from the bed; nice breakfast. A quite quiet place and still at a spot where you can start easy to anything you like to do.

this is a personal perception: in all the hotel there is a very strong scent, like entering a Dior perfume shop; I found it very disturbing, close to causing nausea

The location was great. Amazing river view from our room, and comfy bed! No street noise. Lovely downstairs lounge/breakfast area with river views. Breakfast was good, as was the free beer! Heated bathroom floor.

Cold shower each morning (the alternative was a boiling hot shower...) Not a nice way to start the day. Unfriendly person at check-in/check-out, however the rest of the staff were lovely. Maybe they were having a bad day...

We LOVED our stay at 1872 River House by Olivia. We stayed in a River View room with balconies and it was stunning. The view was like you were staying on a cruise ship with a view of the water and a beautiful view of Gaia. The bed was King size or bigger and very comfortable. The room and the bathroom were spacious. Heating and AC worked well but we often slept with the window cracked. It can be a little noisy but they supplied ear plugs but we did not use them and slept through the night. Breakfast was delicious and the cappuccinos were a great treat. We also enjoyed the free beer. :). We will recommend this hotel to anyone and will be returning in the future! :)

A wonderful little hotel in a fantastic location. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was in a lovely room. We loved our comfortable room including heated bathroom floor. The internet was fast. Having a view and access to the river was wonderful. Many places to explore. Everything was fantastic.

Suggest using McDonalds as a landmark for taxis.
