From the moment we arrived, this hotel was nothing short of magical. The interior is absolutely stunning, grand chandeliers, breathtaking stained-glass windows, and a refined charm that made us feel like we were stepping into a postcard. One of the highlights was the private sun deck complete with a dip pool perfect for unwinding with drinks and gourmet nibbles, available on demand. The staff went above and beyond, welcoming us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. We were greeted with a glass of port on arrival, a deliciously thoughtful introduction to Porto that set the tone for our stay. The rooms were immaculate, with a nightly turndown service and chocolates placed on our pillows; small touches that made a big difference. A standout member of the team was Riu Pinto (concierge) whose warmth and professionalism elevated our entire experience. From the moment he greeted us, Riu made us feel truly seen and cared for. His attention to the smallest details from remembering our name, preferences to anticipating our needs, he was remarkable. He offered thoughtful recommendations that led us to some of the best hidden gems in the city, making our trip feel personalised and unique. His deep local knowledge and passion for Porto added a rich layer to our visit, and his friendly, approachable demeanor made every interaction a pleasure. Riu is a true asset to the hotel and a big reason why our stay was so memorable.

Our only complaint? That we couldn’t stay longer. We left already planning our return.

A quality hotel located in the heart of Porto; perfect location to discover the city. The Aliadios metro station is 3-4 mins walk which connects the city. Every area of the hotel from staff to service was brilliant. The opulence of the foyer and entrance reverberates around the hotel. No need to look elsewhere!

Enjoyed our short two night stay and had chosen the hotel for its location and uniqueness. Staff greeted us and helped us with our luggage on arrival. A relaxing check-in with a welcome drink. Marveled at the beauty of the hotel with its impressive staircase and stained glass window and other decorative features. Our room was large so easy to open and live out of our suitcases for two days. As a tea drinker a kettle in the room is always welcomed plus the custard tarts were delicious. Bottled water was provided, again always appreciated when traveling. Buffet breakfast was included in our reservation with its array of delicious options. The staff were friendly and very helpful with directions and luggage in particular. Would recommend to others when staying in Porto.

Good size bathroom, but no hooks on which to hang a robe. Although a large room so adequate space, only one dining chair was provided. We had room service one evening so one of us had to sit on the sofa atop two cushions to reach the table. We did dine in Scarlett, the hotel restaurant, and although the service was excellent, the menu was not inspiring and did not seem to live up to the description on the website.

The staff were not so friendly

Beautiful room! Beautiful hotel! Terrific courteous service throughout. Location was ideal, short walk from Sao Bento train station. Interior woodwork and stained glass window does not disappoint!

Breakfast was good, but could have been better. They need to improve their method of keeping their food warm. The current method using pots isn't working. They were out of smoked salmon one day. Also, green LED light at interior of room doorway was too bright, interferred with sleeping. The room could have used an extra floor lamp.

A great place to stay, in a very central location with plenty of cafes, bars & restaurants on the doorstep. We were very well looked after from the outset - everyone we encountered was lovely & helpful. Our room was very comfortable (and the extra large bed was the comfiest I’ve ever slept in). The breakfast buffet was very plentiful - cooked items, fresh bread, fruit, yoghurts, homemade cakes, meats & cheeses. Amazing! All set out in a stunning ballroom. Oh and I also loved the vintage lift. Overall, a lovely stay!

Our only niggle was the shower which was set over a bath & was a little awkward to get in & out of.

The staff went above and beyond to address our hot water issues and right the situation. The hotel manager Ana Christina also went above and beyond to ensure our expectations were exceeded. The to-go box was a meal fit for royalty and an unbelievably nice touch. They should all be very proud of the level of service they provide. The property is beautiful and a nice respite from the craziness downtown. Great recommendations for restaurants. And the junior suites are very nice: cozy, comfortable with a stunning bar area. Love the circular staircases and the renovated ballroom is a gorgeous spot for brunch. Oh, and the brunch was outstanding! Amazing variety of local meats, cheeses, breads/cakes, a beautiful honeycomb, and many warm dishes beautifully displayed in Le Creuset-type pots.

We had issues having consistent hot water for a shower

We were slightly apprehensive of the no parking at the hotel situation, but the staff explained where to go and how to park. There is a charge but it was reasonable for city center parking. We had booked a junior suite and were upgraded to the Royal Suite which was very luxurious, containing a large bedroom, huge bathroom with bath and shower, large sitting room with second toilet and basin and a third room with the dining table, kitchenet and library, so can't really comment on the room we had booked. The staff were very helpful and friendly, always ready to help. The hotel itself was within walking distance of so many attractions and points of interest, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. The breakfast was varied and extensive.

We ordered room service on the first night which was disappointing, the garlic prawns were lukewarm and the salade niçoise contained no egg. Despite the room being cleaned the following day, the detritus from the evening before remained. The hotel's accounting system had been recently updated and would not preauthorize our credit card. We used another card with the assurance that it was just a holding charge and nothing more would be charged against it. Two more charges were made against this card the last one failing due to insufficient funds, something I had warned the hotel about and I was assured this would not happen. Not an issue but it was a niggle.

Excellent staff and location

It is one of the leading small hotels of the world would have expected milk for tea and coffee and items such as team you were not provided with many you needed to keep requesting The lights in the room are not user friendly and there is a delay to each light section of the room lighting up Even if all lights are on it’s dark and the only mirror is in the bathroom need one in bedroom area for make up and hair as bathroom I’ve get steamed up

The hotel is in an amazing old building. You can feel the nice atmosphere in every part of the hotel. This makes for a totally different experience than normal! The staff was attentive, pleasant and genuinely interested.

It did not have a gym. Closet / clothes storage space could be larger and improved..
