Good location, lovely breakfast offerings and nice staff

The breakfast was exquisite, and the atmosphere in which it was served made it even more delightful you could truly feel the warmth of a loving, family spirit all around.

The noise along the coastline is absolutely unbearable blasting music from cars, engines roaring from motorcycles and cars… pure madness! It’s so loud you can barely hear your own thoughts (or maybe that’s a blessing in disguise 😅). Honestly, I’d recommend this city mostly for the young and restless they’ll probably love it! A real pity though, because the place truly deserves five stars. Sadly, the hotel can’t do much about it; this is more up to the city to ensure that after 10 pm the “motor symphony” takes a well-deserved break.

Liked everything. Cost was half the price of a major Hotel chain on Southend seafront. Whilst the room may not be the latest decor(as per every small hotel), it is very clean, very tidy and has every facility you would expect - towels, coffee facilities, TV etc. Great shower. It also has bags of character, cheap bar prices, excellent restaurant and probably the best cooked & buffet breakfast available, included within the room cost. A major Hotel chain offers bland and tastless breakfast by comparison. Owners are very welcoming as we're other guests who don't follow the "don't talk ethos" found elsewhere - very friendly and relaxing as a result. Location is perfect - 2 mins from Westcliff Cliffs walk and Pavilion. Less than 5 mins to the seafront. Quiet location.

Nothing to dislike.

Comfy bed, clean room, shower pressure was great, breakfast was delicious and hosts were friendly and helpful.

Very minor, but toilet didn't have a strong flush.

We loved Ilfracombe House. The lovely owner and his family do a fantastic job making everyone’s stay there a happy and stress free one. I can see why so many return. All beds had valentines day roses on, we had a car lift back from the football ground, evening and breakfast meals were excellent - love the toasters on the tables, great idea. Private free parking is a big bonus in Southend. Walking distance to The Cliffs, pier and into town, perfect location. Our room literally looked like it had just been decorated, the carpet and curtains looked new too. We will be back next season!

Absolutely nothing!

Exactly as described by other reviews. This hotel is a bit old fashioned but warn, clean, comfortable and the staff are very friendly and happy to serve you. My partner said the breakfast was good but not outstanding, there was plenty of choice and nicely served. It was a very pleasant stay and the location is excellent. It is a traditional seaside hotel and I would certainly stay again.

The furnishings are very old fashioned and there needs just a little attention to details ie there were new curtains but needed some extra hooks, two holes in bathroom door where there had been a hook and it spoiled what is a very smart bathroom refurb. These small things make a real difference.

A lovely old fashioned (in the best sense of the word) family run hotel. Nice room with small kitchen and sitting area. We didn't have dinner there but they serve a great breakfast. Small bar with good selection of drinks. The family were friendly and very welcoming. Small car park (no charge). Great position minutes from the sea front and Cliffs Pavilion Theatre and short walk through the park to the pier and town centre.

Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and right next to the beach was a bonus. As much as i have said in the don't like part don't get me wrong it was overall a great place and would use again.

The hotel is very dated from top to bottom and reminded me of Fawlty Towers which was nice in a way but could do with some updating and new carpets. the food is ok but on the expensive side but the staff were very willing to please. the car park is extremely small and had to park on the road with a permit but would have preferred the car park for more security.

Very helpful and pleasant host and hostess. Great to have a bar in which to have a drink and dinner provided 6-9pm. Didn't eat but what we saw looked very good. Personal service at breakfast--Only had sausage and egg but both well cooked. A conversion of some Victorian villas and in places a little dated but were happy with many of the original features-cornices/picture rails etc. Bed was very comfortable and a flat screen T.V with freeview channels. I loved that there was a small fridge in the room. If you prefer the modern consistency of the travelodge and Premier Inn this is probably not for you but if you like individuality and quirkiness I'd happily recommend a stay here-particularly if you are Visiting Cliffs Pavilion for a show!

Some of the furniture in the bar could do with upgrading and some glasses/tumblers in the bedroom would be useful.

Amazing full English breakfast, one of the best I've had in any hotel (and I've been to many). Perfect location, lovely, friendly and helpful staff, very nice, large, comfortable room, such great amenities! Loved the iron and ironing board, that was a really nice addition to the room. It's rare you see both. Loved how much info there was in the form of books/leaflets, about the location and hotel. Easy check in/check out. Will definitely be back! :)
