Torel Royal Court formerly known as Hotel Conquistador Palace, is a lovely Boutique Hotel near the historic center of Guimaraes. The rooms are lovely decorated with charme of an ancient house and modern functionality. Absolutely exceptional is the hotel staff around the hotel manager Tania and Soraia. Everyone without exception from reception to the bar, house keeping etc was always smiling, helpful and pro-actively service friendly. The hotel is currently by the new owner group under improvements, that’s why the Spa was not working and some rooms are under transformation. Once the modifications are finished, further sun umbrellas at the pool are installed, the new Spa is opened and the aircon machines in the garden are sound proof covered, it will be even a more enjoyable place. We definetly will come back and hope that the same team will still be there, than that’s the real advantage of this lovely hotel.

Nothing to criticise at the hotel! There was only on one day disturbance from a crazy neighbor, the hotel staff did everything what was possible, but the police didn’t wanted to help. As well as noise from a construction site nearby on a few days.

Relatively new small hotel in great location (quiet but very accessible). Elegantly renovated and tastefully furnished, each room is unique. We loved our rooms “Melbourne “ and “Shanghai”. Very spacious with high ceilings, and comfortable beddings. Pool, though small is nice to relax after a hot day touring the town. Breakfast was wonderful with great variety. Extremely clean and staff were friendly and professional.

Nothing. But make sure to call asking about parking. As there is no parking at the property, you will need to stop in front to drop off luggage and then go park in public parking nearby.

This hotel accomplishes that rare feat of feeling like luxury without adding a hint of pretension. We stayed for four nights and wished we could have stayed for 10. The hotel is an immaculately restored property in the heart of the old downtown of Guimaraes. The designers were thoughtful with their restoration, in that the hotel is beautiful without ruining the character of the street on which it is situated. There is attention to detail throughout the building, be that in the furnishings, the art and decor, or most notably, the service. The staff at Conquistador Palace made us truly feel at home. Tanya, Soraia and Diana all staffed the front desk and served breakfast and evening drinks with grace, kindness and professionalism. We particularly appreciated Soraia's efforts to go above and beyond by making non-alcoholic cocktails, which she did admirably well. The kitchen and cleaning staff were equally kind and professional. We appreciated Alexis's service and generous attention towards us. The food served at breakfast was a step above what we saw at other excellent properties in Portugal, and it was always a delightful way for us to start our day. The staff also helped advise us as we explored the area around Guimaraes, giving us wonderful dinner ideas and making reservations on our behalf. In all, the stay at Conquistador Palace was the very best part of our two-week trip across Portugal, and we look forward to returning.

The staff were amazing. So friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Their help with a dentistry issue was above and beyond. They helped with luggage and restaurant recommendations. The room and hotel decor was beautiful. Very lovely place to stay with a little garden to drink wine and relax in was a bonus. Breakfast was everything you needed with eggs cooked to your requirements. Had sport tv in the bar which we loved.

The road outside being 1st floor facing road was a bit noisy.

The Conquistador Palace is a stunningly beautiful hotel with the most accommodating, intelligent staff. The building is from the early 1800's and every renovation has been tastefully done to honor the history yet provide modern conveniences to their guests. Every room is unique! Our bedroom was gorgeous with a hand painted wall with an intricate floral designs that was absolutely to die for. Bed was huge and so comfortable, gorgeous clean bathroom, robes and slippers, mini bar, TV, dressing mirror, great wifi, large windows with beautiful views and the room is spacious. We were greeted warmly when we entered and our luggage was brought up for us. We were given a map, recommendations on sights to see and where to eat that made our stay lovely. The town is so safe and charming! Then, we woke up and ate the most delicious breakfast!! Eggs, bacons, fruit, pastries, homemade cake, cappuccinos/lattes etc. It was so good you just wanted to linger. We also had two great conversations about Portugal and local culture with the staff. They could hold a high level conversation in English and were so gracious and intelligent. I HIGHLY recommend staying at this hotel. It truly was a wonderful experience.

We only stayed one night and we wish we could have stayed longer.

If you want to visit Guimarães and stay at a family member’s house but don’t have family there, you can stay at this hotel (though keep in mind you’ll still need to pay). It’s a charming old house, not one of those ‘stylish but soulless’ hotels that could be anywhere in the world, missing both the charm of the local culture and the personal touch. The floor might creak a bit, and you might hear the church bell next door… but that’s just how it is – if you don’t like it, you’re the problem… accept it and move on… For a hotel like this, which was once a palace, to be clean, well-maintained, and, above all, a place with soul, the people who work there and the management make all the difference. So, feel free to go and take in the singularities of the place as opportunities to interact with the super friendly staff who will do everything to make you feel welcome.

Everything about Conquistador Palace is outstanding. Our room was very large and superbly furnished. The staff are wonderful! The reception staff were especially friendly and helpful, and bent over backwards to assist us. The owner greeted us on arrival and was also very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast is excellent and included eggs cooked to order as well as a good variety of fresh fruit. The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the main sights of Guimarães as well as the bus and train stations. Moreover, Braga is only a short bus ride away for a day trip. Guimarães is a lovely small city that has been well-preserved and the Conquistador Palace is the perfect base for exploring Guimarães and Braga.

Everything was great

We arrived very late and this was no problem. The location was excellent. The hotel is amazingly clean and beautifully designed, our room was upgraded to a suite and wow! The staff were super helpful and attentive. The outside area was superb, with a beautiful pool area to relax and we were served snacks and wine as we sunbathed. The owner, Joao was the perfect host - thank you. The city itself is really great with lots of things to do and see really close to the hotel. Lots of lovely restaurants and bars also. Would love to go back again and definitely stay in the Conquistador Palace.

A stunning hotel in a sympathetically restored town house on the edge of the Old town. Our bedroom was vast, beautifully furnished with every detail taken care of. The bed was enormous and very comfortable with crisp white cotton sheets and soft towels in the bathroom.

Given that this was one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at, our criticisms are few and minor. We thought the breakfast buffet need a bit more thought - sliced fruit on flat plates self-served with tongs was fiddly, milk was not served with coffee or available for cereals without asking. A small jug of milk in the bedroom fridge (to go with the pod coffee machine) would have been appreciated. Very minor points as the good massively outweighed the bad and we would absolutely recommend the hotel.

Very helpful and friendly staff!! Beautiful and stylish restored old building. Very comfortable and huge double bed. We received an upgrade to executive room......... very large room!!! Breakfast good and sufficient, fresh fruit good quality. Nice, quiet garden with swimming pool. Modern and cheap parking garage nearby.

The airconditioning unit can be above average noisy and difficult to work out the settings........for no reason switching between cool or heating mode. In the middle of the swimming pool a small vortex of water occurred due strenght suction of water to the bottom filter........ perhaps caution when under water with long hair and risk of being trapped.
