Very efficient and friendly staff. Check-in was so easy, and we were taken to our room next just directed. Nothing was too much trouble for the exceptional staff. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything needed. Breakfast was superb. Local butcher sausage and bacon and excellent coffee. I couldn't fault the location, right in the middle of York, and only a few minutes to the minster. I would highly recommend this independent hotel and thank the staff for a delightful break.

We had the romantic room , small but excellent, clean and a beautiful copper bath in the room. This is an outstanding small run business, staff and owners cannot do enough to help, this is a very old/medieval property so this having difficulty with stairs may struggle, but the clue is it’s old guys and lifts weren’t invented. Just a couple of minutes from all prime spots in this historic location. The staff know all the best places in this delightful small ‘city’ , can’t thank them enough, breakfast and main meal menus presented to very high standard, well done again , in the words of the American, I’ll be back xxxxxxxx

The character , the little accents in decor, the storytelling vibe of the whole place ! The restaurant onsite was also excellent , thoroughly recommended the afternoon tea. My daughter and I had a superb stay here . Comfortable, cosy and unforgettable. The location is probably the strongest point with everything 3-5 minutes walk away .

There was nothing we could fault. The bathroom was tiny in our room but that was in the nature of the building itself and for us it wasn’t a problem as we only required functional use of it , and it was very clean with molton brown toiletries. For us everything was faultless about the property, but it also depends on the taste of the guest.

The location was perfect with my bedroom window looking out at York Minster. The rooms were great, both my brother's small double room and the superior room I was upgraded to. I could have happily spent a lot of time in that room and it's a room I'll remember for a long time - cosily decorated, along with a fireplace. The bed was great, with lovely bedding, which I'm guessing was also hyperalergenic. And I loved the shower - it was almost a room of its own. The reception staff were brilliant - very helpful and they seemed to know who you were before you had to tell them :)

Great location in York. Right in the centre and all attractions were walkable. The room was a little small, especially the shower but I booked a cheaper room. The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and has access to tea and coffee and Molton Brown bath products which were a lovely treat. I didn’t realise breakfast was included. That is rare so I was very impressed with that and it’s was absolutely delicious! I had the full English on the first morning and the granola and yogurt the second morning. Both incredible and the coffee was delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I will absolutely be booking this hotel again as it was an excellent stay and I was so pleased with the whole experience.

It was loud on the Main Street on the Saturday night but I guess this is to be expected in York at a weekend. It was the weekend of York races as well so possibly more to do with that. This cannot be helped by the hotel but if you are looking for a quieter location at the weekend then this is something to possibly consider. It didn’t bother us at all as it is to be expected.

The location was beyond fantastic and the staff were absolutely phenomenal. We stayed with our dog and the room was made up with a dog bed, blanket and bowl upon our arrival and the staff were really great with the dog and even remembered her name! She was welcome down in the dining area as well without hesitation. Both the restaurant and the hotel room were tastefully decorated. Breakfast was included and the portions were extremely generous with plenty of good options. We also elected to have dinner there; and it was also reasonably priced and absolutely delicious.

The property had poor ventilation in the bathroom so would get a bit damp after showering. The hotel seemed to be under a bit of construction in areas.

Great location right next to The Minster- you're right in the heart. Staff were lovely, very accommodating. Quirky. Building has great age and gravitas, which I love. Nice relaxed vibe, felt comfortable. Decent full English breakfast served in the restaurant, good service. Kettle in the room and plenty of coffee sachets/teas. Access code for front door if you return late which we did, simple and effective.

The small double is pinched - bruises from banging into furniture. Storage only enough for iscone night and I would say max a couple of nights. One night priced at £135 and not sure that was great value other than for location, but then it's York on a Friday! Somebody else's sock found under the bed, not so great. Would have liked the offer of fruit juice with breakfast. No fridge, so the nightcap white wine we brought had to be unchilled.

(Room8) We understand the hotel is an old building, full of character and quirkiness but we found the bathroom very small. In the shower you could hardly move, there was no where to put your shampoo etc, and for a woman who doesn’t want to wash her hair every time she has a shower there was no sliding shower only a drencher which was too big for the enclosure which resulted in water coming over the top. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and the extractor fan did not work. The quality of the mattress was very poor. The staff were lovely as was the breakfast.

This hotel is the CUTEST. Super old building but it's the perfect vibe while in York. While the rooms are small (my bathroom and the low ceiling specifically very much so) they are so cosy and decorated amazing so you don't mind the size at all, I loved it in fact. Staff were super friendly and helpful, breakfast was amazing and the dining area so lovely. The location is perfect, not too far from parking either.

Note that due to the old building, there is no lifts. We had huge bags as we were travelling for a while around the UK, and we were on the top floor, maybe 3-4 flights, just be aware of that and I felt so bad for the staff having to carry them up but they were so lovely.

Breakfast was ok although could do with beans and tomato been hot as they were nearly cold. Evening meal was superb so not sure if its a different chief in the evening. We stayed in room 5 which definitely needs a new mattress as the springs were awful (especially the side nearest to the door). We stayed directly above room 5 the year before and the beds were comfort and somehow didn't seem to get as much noise ( although it was New Year's Eve).

I would probably ask for a room at the back of the hotel if it was New Year's Eve again. Plus the bed was uncomfortable but we loved the hotel and the staff and where it is situated.
