We arrived just after a star studded opening for the hotel. Everyone was still excited about recent events and the future of the hotel. They should still be excited - the public areas of the hotel are works of art. The pool is placed to look more like a museum installation than a functional benefit. Our room was more than we expected including a small step-out balcony to watch the city lights. Everything we needed for comfort was provided in our room as well as a great brunch buffet. The hotel's location at one "end" of S. Miguel was fantastic as a starting and a finishing point for encountering the city. I have great words for the staff. I left my phone at reception while getting our bags stored until check-in. It says a lot about all the people bustling about that my iphone was waiting upon our return. They overcame my own carelessness with their kindness and I thank them. My experience here has led to me look at other Via Gale properties.

I had a great stay at this hotel. The property was clean and beautifully designed. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the location was excellent — close to everything I needed.

There were several things that could have been better during our stay. The room lighting was very dim, and one of the towels had a stain on it. The water in the spa pool wasn’t warm, and wearing a swim cap was mandatory — if you didn’t have one with you, they charged €4 per cap, which felt a bit unreasonable. Unfortunately, there was no ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign to hang on the door, and even though I had informed the reception that I didn’t want housekeeping to enter our room, they cleaned it while we were out and moved our belongings around. Also, during breakfast, there was a shortage of glasses, which was inconvenient.

That we had to pay if we wanted extra coffee pods in the room. Wanted coffee for the morning before left for airport at 5 am wake us up for long 19 hr trip back home, sorry after paying 308.00 euros for 12 hr stay wasn’t going to pay for 2 coffee pods.

This was a one-night stopover before flying to one of the other islands, but if we ever return to Ponta Delgada we will look no further than this hotel. One of us made use of the open air pool. We had a snack meal in the unusual and interesting music-themed bar. The room was superb, spacious and comfortable. Everything worked. The reception staff were extremely helpful, professional and courteous. The corridors and walkways are interesting with plenty of conversation starters. The breakfast was excellent in its range and quality, and the seating areas were lovely. A sight of the full dinner menu made us wish we had a longer stay. Perhaps another time. We transferred to and from the airport by taxi (10-15 mins) with no problems.

On that particular evening the bar was probably understaffed and the waiting times for food and drink were on the long side. Not a big problem for us, but we saw a couple of family groups whose children were getting restless with hunger while waiting after their swimming.

there is only one thing to mention: we took a snack and drinks at the bar twice and unfortunately had to find out that - depending on which card (= in which language) you‘re looking at - the prices and selection were significantly different. this was kinda strange and we‘ld suggest to correct that.

Spacious room on the 4th (top) floor overlooking the square with a view of the marina. Very quiet. Both windows opened for fresh air. Indoor pool and sauna were nice and relaxing. Architecture and art on the walls is beautiful and provides history of the town and hotel. Lots of character. Our thanks to Luis and team who were exceptionally helpful. Parking onsite was convenient.

The breakfast was just ok, but again, the staff was very helpful.

Big room with big bed. Nice pastel de nata every day on the breakfast buffet. Nice historical building with info around about the history of the Azores. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Bathroom door does not offer much privacy. TV comes on automatically when coming in the room, which was annoying. Allergen info missing on buffet labels. More info about the history of the building (old hospital) could be great.

The property is strategically located, in proximity to everything. The staff is amazing, courteous and extremely helpful. Check in was a breeze! Breakfast was great every day, plenty of choices! I especially loved their coffee! I’m sad I didn’t ask where they source it? We had an early departure from the hotel, they packed us all 9 of us a breakfast!!! So thoughtful!

I found the mattress to be hard, maybe time to update!

The building is fabulous. It is practically the first hospital of the Azores islands. Everything is new and renovated (July 2023). The building itself is a historical monument, full of history and emotion, the floors are wooden covered with carpet (I saw in some comments that someone was bothered by this aspect - it's a shame to give this hotel a low mark for such a detail). The location is right in the center, in front of the hotel is a market, the ocean is 20 meters away. Staff who maintain, clean and who want to help you, you can find every 20 meters. Fabulous breakfast. The pool is large and clean. Everything is superlative, and if you consider that you are in the Azores, it is like a dream.
