Well situated in a beautiful village town, so we sat at the top of the bus 21a and 21 from Dundee to the Forfar Cross Stop. Most beautiful scenery. They are close to Loch Forfar and could participate in the Saturday parkrun at the lake side. Lots of supermarkets close by, which I found surprising given that they are far from Dundee and that we had to drive through farms to get there. The town has almost anything one needs. Lovely hotel, quiet and a calm place to stay. An addition of pool for my teen son and daughter. My other teen prefered the gym, and it was well equipped. Our favourite time was talking to the parrot. Staff were amazing and always helpful at reception and breakfast. My 10 year old loved the porridge and lots of juice, and the rest of us went for a full English breakfast. We were given a family room, which was perfect. A combination of two connected rooms. A double bed in one and 2 single beds in the other. We had 2 wash basins, which was great when someone was in the bathroom. I gave this a 9/10 because of the missing bathtub, but it must be said that the shower was really clean and my youngest loved using it, which tells you a lot. Great value for money. It was the cheapest when I searched for hotels near Dundee and glad that I went. I would go again anytime.

Wish there was a bathtub, but again, it was great value for the money we paid.

The breakfast was beautiful. thoroughly enjoyed it. The second day I elected not to have a sausage and beans and potato scone on my plate because I was full after breakfast on the first day. The staff at the hotel were lovely, friendly, helpful. (we asked for 2 extra pillows and they were brought up to our room, no problem), Couldn't have asked for more. The mattress was quite firm, but would not complain because everyone is different. If we had stayed longer I would have gotten used to it.

The hot tap in the bathroom hand basin was a bit stiff, either just a dribble or full on. However the water was hot and plenty of it. Enjoyed our showers too.

We really enjoyed our stay. Ideal location. Our room was huge! We had seen comments about rooms being dated but ours wasn't at all, really nicely decorated. We had a sofa as well as a table and chairs! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was very tasty and the young lady who served us very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and would stay again.

The only downside was the location of the tele on the wall. It was facing away from the sofa and you couldn't see it from the bed due the angle and the distance. It would be better on a bracket with an arm so you could swing it out when you wanted it

Very central, but that meant a little noisy. Although, to be fair we live in a very quiet village. Great independent shops. Pies from butchers were first class. Staff at hotel were friendly and helpful. Meals in the hotel were tasty and generous portions, good value too.

We had a room at the front which meant on Friday night, there was alot of noise from people leaving clubs/ pubs late into the night/morning between 01.30 and 2.30am. Might be better if we had been further back but apparently then we would have heard music from the in house nightclub.

I loved this place, booked it last minute and so pleased, great room, lots of space, comfy bed, and very central, and the large rear car park is perfect for motorcycles, the staff could not have been more helpful, even supplied a plate etc, for a Chinese meal I bought locally, the breakfasts were just right, and the porridge with honey was delicious, I will definitely be staying again when I visit the area,if only to say hello to buddy the parrot who made me laugh with his language and impressions.

I honestly can't think of anything negative, it was a great two days

We spent 4 wonderful days at the Royal Hotel and truly enjoyed every moment. The room was large and spotless, the Scottish breakfast was delicious, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. A lovely surprise was Baddy, the African Grey parrot – a true character and a unique touch to the hotel. Everything was perfect, from the warm service to the relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely return!

Delicious breakfast. Had dinner there the first night and it was lovely. Nightclub attached to the hotel but didn't get a chance to go this time, or to go for a swim in the pool or use the spa. I'll be going back to visit family again in that area and will happily stay at the Royal Hotel again. Staff were lovely, very friendly and Buddy was a surprise (parrot in the bar). Location is fantastic.

I have spoken with my colleagues and they said the breakfast was excellent and the rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They loved the parrot too and looked forward to seeing him every day. Would defiantly stay there again if they have to come back up there for work.

The only negative thing was that the shower did not have a lot of water coming out of the head, my colleague described it as just a few strands of water cascading down which made showering properly a bit hard.

Nice room, clean. Good location. Good breakfast.

Noisy - as if there was a motor or machine running outside my window all night. Unpractical coming back after 10 PM and having to make a phonecall so someone comes to open the door. Had to pass through the bar to get to my room - it was pitch dark when I got back in the evening. Also poor lighting in the hallway (sensor avtivated lights could be a solution).

Price was excellent. Excellent location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great parking. Spa and Pool facilities were great. Bistro food was delicious and very reasonable priced.

Portions in Bistro were a bit too big, too overwhelming and I dislike food waste. Make the portion sizes a little smaller. Prices were low for deliciious food.
