The friendly reception we received when we arrived at 7.30pm, after having to make an unexpected overnight stay in the Hunter, was the start of a very pleasant stay at The Mercure. The team were very friendly and helpful in suggesting that we eat from the bar menu, as we needed to have a quick meal and an early night. I ordered the Beef Burger, which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the Seafood Chowder (also declicious), which we were told is a firm local favourite. We had a very comfortable night's sleep, leaving at the "crack of dawn" to resume our trip to the Mundi Mundi Bash.

The place was great. Sadly, we did have a room having the lake, but it was still nice and comfortable.

The birthday package was $69, which i believe it was too much based on the mega simple decorations of the room( just 6 balloms on the bed and a simple banner on the wall) unfortunately it looked so poor and sad. 😢 they need more creativity for that amount they charged. The dessert was little, and the bottle of bubbles was just right. Apart from that everything was fine. If the main dinner restaurant were in the breakfast area, probably that would be more attractive, the dinner restaurant is plain and a bit boring.

Room was cosy . Reception staff were lovely & very accommodating. Elements restaurant was exceptional meals on key an beautiful and wait staff are exceptionally skilled and proficient. Lovely cosy fire an atmosphere in sitting area.

The Cleaners need to pay a lot more attention to the finer details when they’re cleaning. A lot Of things were overlooked in our room an being an ex cleaner visually not a good look Can make a big difference for an overall review.

Beautiful room, loved the swimming pool - it was a great temperature and vibe loved the large chess set which we played our room was so private and well located near the pool it was great cheese plate, sparkly wine and rose petals were worth the extra $ and the bath with the window above was just beautiful - we enjoyed sharing our bottle of Bollinger and having a soak on valentines day together very much !!

Rooms could do with a lick of paint but they are clean The lady that checked us in was lovely but the other lady was quite rude when we returned to get towels We arranged a late check out for 11am but the cleaners knocked and opened the door without waiting when we were in bed at 9.45am which was not great!

My wife and myself booked 2 nights accommodation at the Mercure as it was very centralised to Bimbadgen Estate for the Take That concert we were attending. The rooms were the highest quality and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. During our stay we also did some wine tasting at DeBortoli's Hunter Valley, we went to the Hunter Valley Chocolate and Fudge factory, had dinner at Harrigans Pub and attended the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas lights. The furthest we travelled from our location was only a 10 minute drive. It has beautiful manicured lawns and gardens and is the perfect location for a weekend getaway, corporate stay or to host an event

The worst thing was potentially spider webs when we went on a walk from the Mercure to Hunter Valley gardens at night. There are some big spider webs and spiders if you try cutting through the trees and bush. Other than that everything was very good

You can’t beat the location - right next to the village and the Hunter valley Gardens for the Christmas lights - we just walked there. Staff were great and my early check in request was available. I liked the bed but my husband didn’t like the pillows and had a poor sleep. Both our room and my inlaws next door had water leak out of the shower when both husbands used the rain shower head and it went all over the floor. But minor inconvenience really - we’ve stayed before and we’ll stay again. And I would recommend to anyone else.

The shower water running all over the floor. The soft pillows - firmer would be great. We didn’t have time to request any others though as at a wedding and got back late.

The location, the facilities, the food, the room. Everything was perfect. The bath was the best. I booked the specific room type to get the bath. It’s set into the floor & there is a large skylight above it. It felt so luxurious just sitting in the bath- which is huge & even had space for my feet to sit. There are numerous wineries & a whiskey distillery around the area, restaurants & close to Cessnock if you need to go into town for anything. The restaurant was great, the food was beautiful & our waiter was very professional with a sense of humour. We would definitely stay here again, probably one of my favourite places to have stayed. Staff were friendly & there’s a library you can sit in & have a drink & while away some time.

There’s nothing I didn’t like

The room was clean, spacious and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable, there were additional linens/towels provided, and the view was pleasant especially as the weather was quite horrible. We ate in the dining room one evening, the chosen 3 course meal was delicious, well priced, with the added touch of a birthday greeting on my dessert.

the only downside was that the dining room was quite chilly, though this could have been since there were only a few patrons that evening.

Helpful staff, value for money, location. Element's restaurant fantastic! Breakfast excellent on Sunday a little hit and miss on Monday. [I would change the 'bake bean supplier or pull them from the buffet altogether.]

One of the reasons we stayed here was the Air Show, as it was Stop 2 on the Shuttle Bus. Paul Bennet's Team or HVG management [who obviously knew about this arrangement] should have briefed the reception staff as to where and how the pick ups were arranged. Would have saved a long walk!

Lovely atmosphere, very chilled with an upmarket feel. Spacious rooms with very comfortable beds and fantastic air conditioning. Nice to have fridge kettle and toaster in room. Food in restaurant was great and beautifully presented, reasonable price too.

Service in bar area was a little slow. Maybe a bit understaffed. Need more suitable eating tables in bar area. Only seemed to be one at comfortable height. Rooms a little bit dated could do with at least a lick of paint on the woodwork, and fridge needed a good defrost.
