Everything exceeded my expectations from all the staff including 'Jack Rabbit' who served the Evening Meal but she was not the only member of staff who was very helpful when I arrived without my shaving kit. The food both at Dinner and Breakfast was very nice and the surroundings are deserving of another visit. I discussed taking my disabled Wife there with a Grandson helping with the driving and the staff stated they would do their best to meet her requirements which I'm sure they would.
A pity the bus service finishes so early in the evening always a worry if one is arriving by train at Berwick, that the last bus will have departed and an expensive taxi ride incurred. Not the fault of Masons Arms of course, but the journeys I travelled on from and to Berwick were well used.

My elderly sister and I booked for one night only en route to a holiday cottage near the area, I could barely believe the surrounding and decor in the hotel as well as the delicious food and more than comfortable, clean and warm rooms, everything was fantastic and excelled our expectations, we have passed the hotels details to our family and friends and said they should book if they are in the area, the value is absolutely breathtaking, thank you so much to the welcoming and friendly owners and staff, we will definitely book again !! 😁
Nothing .

Everything. Great location, friendly and very helpful staff. Fantastic place to stay food excellent with lots to choose from and great value for money. Spacious dining area plenty of tables featuring the stone wall which has a medium heart shaped stone and a couple of smaller ones if you look for them. Twin room with en suite very modern exceptionally clean and bright also featuring the traditional stone wall. Stayed 2 nights tasty breakfast included. Evening meal gammon and egg was very nice. Sunday lunch delicious with a massive yorkshire pudding.

The hotel is perfectly located for travellers who want to explore the area. It is only 30 mins drive from Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle. A stunning and very atmospheric ruins of Norham castle are just 10 mins walk from the hotel . The hotel itself is clean, cosy, it has its oen pub with a lively atmosphere. The food was OK, not great, but it was alight. Our room was very clean, and the beds were comfortable. The area was quiet so we had a great sleep! I would definitely recommend the hotel and I would stay there again myself.

Amazing cooked to order full English Breakfast with fruit/cereals/juice buffet and toast. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were excellent, polite, attentive and happy to chat. A happy buzz in the bar full of locals with a good selection of evening meals except for Thursdays when the Fish and Chip Van is in the village. You buy your fish and chips (big and cooked in dripping), take them back to the pub where you are provided with knife, fork and napkin to enjoy them with many of the locals. A truly welcoming "Pub with Rooms" in a proper English village with a Butcher, Baker and Gunsmith! Fishing in the Tweed is a main attraction. We used the local bus service to visit Berwick on Tweed for both days we stayed. The Lowery Trail in Berwick was a particular delight.
The only thing we did not like was having to leave - we were fortunate to get an extra night when someone cancelled last minute!!

Exceptional place to stay, with wonderful staff, and great rooms. Make sure you set your alarm or you will miss breakfast, as the beds are so warm and comfortable. Stayed RM 7 TWIN. Everything you need in room and a spacious bathroom with quality finishings. As a larger person the shower was very accommodating, with excellent pressure for an electric shower. Porcelain shower tray , not your usual plastic, important to me as with arthritis I often slip. Wifi never faltered throughout my stay . Breakfast is delicious an more than ample. The staff go above and beyond and very welcoming. I overslept one morning and received a courtesy knock on my door at 9am, Prior to breakfast finishing , to enquire whether I wanted anything. So nice. I would rather not be leaving this review as I wanted to keep this place too myself. But that would be unfair on the hardworking staff at the Masons
I had too leave and come home

The Mason's Arms is a lovely little village hotel/pub accommodation with great hosts/staff, very friendly, good humoured and helpful. I had a twin room which was clean and cosy and equipped with a kettle and hospitality tray with tea, coffee, biscuits etc. There was a good sized shower in the en suite which was very welcomed as I arrived by motorcycle and was very cold - the shower was excellent! The kitchens were closed on the night we stayed (mentioned on booking.com) but all was not lost as a mobile fish and chip wagon pays a visit the same day of the week, with a varied choice of fish/chips/chicken/haggis/sausage etc. Very tasty! The 'full English' the following day ticked all boxes. I've nothing bad to say about this property and would recommend it as a perfect base to explore the local castles and countryside.

James and Linda were so hospitable and friendly, they could do enough to help. James even offered to take us to Berwick station to get the train to Edinburgh and pick us up when we got back, that is how nice they are. If I lived nearer, it would become my local pub and I’d seriously think about adoption!
That it’s a long way for St. Margaret’s at Cliffe.

Surprisingly comfortable bed (for a single bed particularly), confirmable and clean room with a decent shower. Friendly staff who appeared to be very accommodating, and good breakfast
Sadly the night I visited (Thursday) is the chef's night off so your catering choice is the fish and chip van which calls by the village; for other visitors: Tuesday is pub quiz, and Thursday is bingo. One minor irk was the lack of accessible plug sockets - both in the room and the main bar, and no 'work surface' such as a desk/bureau/dressing table in the room.

Lovely clean room. Wonderful host!
Our room was over the entrance and being fresh air freaks had our window open, but nearly expired with disgusting cigarette smoke! We had to keep window shut mostly in the evening! Breakfast on 1st day, spoiled us! Fabulous! On the last 2 days was very sparse and extremely slow.... 1egg and 1 tomato and toast that came cold!
