A nice pub hotel with friendly staff, air conditioned rooms and great walking routes nearby. We loved the breakfast - a buffet of juices, hot drinks (with alternative milks available), pastries, yogurts, fresh fruit, cereals, cold meats, cheeses and breads - plus a cooked breakfast of choice, including full English, eggs Benedict, avocado on toast, and more.

There was a small amount of mould in the bathroom, the service at breakfast forgot items on a couple of occasions and the room was loud due to the main door to the building banging as people came and went throughout the night. It would be great if the management could invest in a quieter door mechanism - as otherwise, we had a really positive experience.

Great stay, start to finish. Really lovely staff throughout. Rooms are really well thought out, super clean and comfortable. Nice touch with the complimentary drink in the fridge and the little bottles of milk are so much better than the tiny plastic pots. Great shower and bath. Really good air conditioning was a god send with warmer weather outside. Absolutely recommend staying here, will definitely stay again when I'm in the area. Cooked breakfast menu looked awesome, will leave more time to take full advantage of it next time. Continental offering was good too though.

Forgot to mention at check out that the TV wasn't working properly, signal kept dropping and only a couple of channels but it really didn't bother me as I didn't need it on. Everything else was completely spot on!

It was pretty, staff were lovely, and it was easy to check in and find my room. Inside the room, it was cosy and welcoming, very clean, all amenities catered for with hot drinks, a mini fridge for milk and complimentary drinks. I loved the rainfall shower, the bed was comfy, and Aircon was lovely! Was exactly what I needed, and felt very relaxing and luxurious. Then breakfast the next morning was wonderful value for money - and delicious! Staff were lovely, polite, and kept refilling drinks. Truly exceptional stay.

My only fault, as I was leaving, the exit was very blind with the foliage so was a bit of a leap of faith out of the carpark onto the main road.

The room was perfect for one. Nice and clean, the bathroom was bright and shower powerful. Nice décor with tea/coffee facilities. I didn't take a hair dryer because of space but there was one in the room which was great. Breakfast was delicious and in with the price of the room. Lots of parking so when I pulled in and there was a wedding on it was fine. Lots of room in the bar area so I didn't get in the way of the wedding guests and I could still sit and have a meal far enough away. Evening menu was lovely. Staff were very friendly

The accommodation was around the back in a separate building so you had to walk outside to get to it and it was raining but that isn't a moan really just more of an inconvenience on the day and there isn't anything else I can put as everything was fab.

Check in was very easy. The hotel had a lovely, friendly atmosphere. I liked that our accommodation was in an annexe behind the pub. The hotel is sandwiched between 2 busy roads but from our room, we could not hear any noise at all. There appears to be separate car parking right outside the annexe. The bedroom was lovely and clean and the bed was extra large and could sleep 3 people!! The bed was very comfortable with quality bedding. The colour tv was a good size and the bathroom was great too. It had a bath and above the bath was 2 shower heads. Lovely large bath sheets which were very soft. Complimentary toiletries too. The room had a refrigerator to keep milk in, there was also a small bottle of complimentary water. There was a coffee machine with a small assortment of pods. Small kettle to make tea. Dinner was very good although not alot of choice on the menu. Our two dinners, 2 beers and 2 J20's came to almost £70 and was quite surprised to see that £7 service charge had been added to our bill. The Breakfast room was lovely, with a small assortment for those who wanted a continental breakfast but the waitress came to our table to take our order for a full English breakfast. I liked that the breakfast staff were very attentive and took time to make sure everyone had the breakfast they wanted. I liked that there was a box in the annexe to post your room key in for a quick departure. I also liked that the staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.

That there was roughly a 10% service charge added on our dinner/drinks bill. It would be good if a little more sugar sachets and milk were left, enough for drinks on arrival and first thing in the morning. Everything else was perfect.

The trip was good, hotel was lush, really nice touch with dog friendly greeting gift. Staff were really attentive and friendly with one exception our evening meal server. Evening waitor asked if all was OK with our meals, to which I replied all was ok but that the bacon chop was very salty. He just replied he would feed that back to the kitchen, total couldnt careless attitude. Didnt ask if it was edible or if I wanted to order something else or replace the chop. I had to leave more than half of it as it was too salty to eat. We both ordered white chocolate Arctic roll, very disappointed it was prebought Arctic roll not freshly made, with just coulis and few raspberries and blackcurrants, very over priced at £8.50 a portion. However the breakfast was exceptional and value for money, even sausage for the dog and staff were lovely and friendly. Shame about the bacon chop and male waiter as the hotel was lovely as were all the other staff

Amazing value for money. Our room was spectacular. We had a large bedroom with separate lounge area, large bathroom with roll top bath and shower with Breakfast for £130. The room was clean and nicely furnished with the usual suspects complimentary. Water, biscuits, tea and coffee etc. The pub and restaurant offered a better than average pub menu, more gastro pub i would say and was very reasonably priced with a good selection of wines and spirits. Staff were very friendly. We actually stayed here as we were attending a brewery tour at Hogsback Brewery, and it was the perfect location as only a few minutes drive up the road. Got a taxi meaning we could both enjoy the beer without worrying about getting back. Breakfast was the best of the meals. Locally sourced produce, excellent quality and plenty of choice. Would definitely recommend to families and couples and would definitely return!

The fact we had to leave :(

Everything about our stay was lovely. The friendly staff, the rooms were cozy and impecably clean, breakfast was excellent as were the evening pub meals we had. The accomodation is in a separate annex to the side of the pub so noise is not an issue. If we come back to this área we will definitely stay at the Princess Royal.

There was nothing to criticise only a suggestion that perhaps a wider selection of teas/infusions available in the room (coffee selection was 5*) and a note to remind guests that milk was available from the bar (and it is proper milk not the usual UHT in environmentally unfriendly plastic pots!).

The room was excellent - large, well equipped and very clean. There is free parking directly outside. Dinner in the pub was very good too.

Breakfast wasn't so good - avocoado on toast was too mushy and the sourdough bread was not bakery bread but tasted like it came out of a packet. Also I requested an Americano coffee and was told no I could only have "jug coffee" (filter?). However later in the breakfast room I spotted other guests getting capucinos so I queried this and was told that there was an extra cost for coffee from the expresso machine. I should have been told this as I would have gladly paid. Lukewarm jug coffee spoiled my breakfast experience. My breakfast server was glum and unhelpful but she was the exception and all the other staff I met were excellent.

The facilities are simple and cozy, allowed for our dog and even left her treats, bowls and a food mat. Coffee, tea, and sugar, spoons in room with coffee pod maker and kettle. Fridge, with water and milk. Adjustable temperature remote, plenty of outlets and lighting. Nice bath products (shampoo, cond, lotion, soap). Friendly staff in Inn and Pub. Good response to one issue we had.

One cleaning issue in bathroom (underside of toilet seat and rim unclean when we arrived) but it was dealt with immediately. Overflowing can in dog exercise area. Visible rodent traps outside.
