Beautiful old house and gardens, friendly and helpful staff and generous tasty breakfast included plus a delicious piece of cake to have for morning tea. Great location, just behind the busy streets of Windemere and easy walking to shops, restaurants, supermarket, railway station and bus stops; where it's a short bus trip from Windemere to the other villages in the Lakes District. Liked the ensuite and the heated towel rail. The room was upstairs but our bags were carried up for us.

Bedroom size and furnishing was more suited to travellers with a small overnight bag. There was inadequate space for our two medium sized suitcases. The room was overheated and we felt uncomfortable under a doona.

A beautiful house in a beautiful location, very central for our visit and staff couldn’t have been more helpful advising us on things to do and places to eat. The breakfast far surpassed any breakfast we have had before, the choice was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and all locally sourced and cooked to perfection. Homemade cake was given on each day of our stay, we sampled lemon cake, Victoria sandwich, carrot cake and triple chocolate cake, all delicious (although the carrot cake was the best) We had a standard comfy room, which was located in the attic but it was a beautiful charming cosy room which had everything we needed. It definitely won’t be our last stay here it’s a true gem of a place to stay 💞

Everything was amazing, nothing to dislike.

The staff were absolutely first class and the location perfect. The breakfast was also excellent. Also, there is ample parking which, unlike most hotels now, is not charged for separately. All in all an excellent experience.

No complaints whatsoever about the property, staff, etc. However, the information on Booking.com is in need of updating. Leaving aside the out of date Covid instructions, the info relating to check in is slightly different on Booking.com than on its own site, where check in is advertised as from 11am. But this is a minor observation on another wise great few days.

We were made so welcome by the lady who runs the place. Made us feel like we were regular guests. The breakfast is really good with an excellent choice of good wholesome food. Our room was well appointed, very cosy and tastefully decorated. The bathroom sparkled with cleanliness. Although we didn't need the heating on it is obvious that it would be toasty in winter. The location is perfect for a nice walk into Windermere where there is a good choice of bars, restaurants and some shops. Bowness is either a moderate walk or a short bus ride. The car park is spacious and well laid out. We will certainly visit again.

Having to leave whilst wanting more.

The Hideaway exceeded all expectations. Booked as a last minute getaway, the reviews really helped to make my decision and are a true reflection of how exceptional this hotel, host Richard and staff are. Location is excellent and provided us with a great starting point to explore the Lake District. The hotel itself is walking distance to Windermere restaurants, shops and 15-20 min walk to Bowness (lake side). Parking on site is free and plentiful during the period we stayed. The room was a good size and felt homely. The super king size bed was really comfortable and we slept really well for the 5 nights we stayed. The breakfast choices are numerous and suitable for all tastes. The full English breakfast was cooked to perfection and both portion size and quality were also exceptional. Thank you Richard, we look forward to staying here again soon..!

Really friendly and accommodating staff. Home from home without being intrusive. Excellent breakfast: choice, quality and quantity. Loved the extra touches like the homemade cake every day. Very comfortable bed. Quiet and peaceful. Great location (as long as you don't mind it being a bit hilly, after all it is the Lake District!) Less than 10 mins walk from railway station. Less than 5 minutes from bus stop but away from the noisy traffic

The staff are friendly and helpful. John, the one we met when we checked-in, shared lots of helpful information about the local area which made our trip quite efficient and memorable. Breakfast is inclusive and it is exceptionally good. The complimentary cake is also super delicious. The room is clean and cozy. Good amenities. They are quite generous with complimentary tea and coffee provided. Lots of different options or flavours for tea bags and coffee including decaf. All are fair trade products which I am really impressed. Very good value for money. Located in a short walking distance from town centre.

The perfect cosy getaway for us. We loved having a comfortable room to come back to after long hikes but what we loved most was the hospitality and breakfast. The breakfast was very comprehensive and the staff even kindly let us takeaway our roll which we had for lunch on hikes. Shoutout to Richard, who always had a warm smile in the morning which makes us feel very welcome and at home. 10/10 recommend

Everything about our stay was delightful. We arrived later than expected after a long, arduous journey and were warmly welcomed by Sue - as well as other members of the team, who were equally friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable, the breakfasts were out of this world (hot plates — a rare treat!), and the homemade cakes were a thoughtful touch that kept us going throughout the day. Just lovely.

Richard and his team were very welcoming and friendly. The breakfasts included each morning were superb, and you can see why the Hideaway has won awards for this. You can order pretty much anything you want and they’re accommodating of any requests. The coffees at breakfast were also superb! The gluten-free options were also great. The breakfast room itself was a lovely room with lot’s of light. Special mention to Barbara who served us both days and made us feel very at home - she was lovely. We also received free cake slices on each day - which was a pleasant surprise. The bathroom was huge, the free-standing bath and shower facilities both exceeded our expectation.

The room we were given had two floors with a spiral staircase, but it was really difficult getting up and down the stairs as they were steep each time we needed to use the bathroom. This should have been made clearer.
