Cannot speak highly enough about our 2 overnight stays at the Hopetoun Arms - enjoyed every thing about it. Exceptional accommodation, great food, very dog friendly (although we didn't have our dogs with us it was lovely meeting the dogs that were there), a very relaxed atmosphere and friendly, efficient staff. In addition a very interesting location - well worth going off the beaten track to get there.

We stayed for one night only on this occassion, it is the first time we have stayed in the Lowther Hills. The location is breathtaking and the hotel is bathed in history and character. The proprieters were exceptionally friendly and knowledgable. Enjoyed a long and very interesting chat with Rab at the bar on our arrival. The staff were all extremely helpful. The bedroom was wonderful and the peace and quiet was exactly what we needed to decompress from 5 busy days in London. The area around is one of the most glorious and isolated areas in Southern Scotland, with excellent walking opportunities (we did not have time though, on this occassion, to do any real walking). Points of interest abound, the museum and Cafe at Wanlockhead is well worth the visit. We stayed for dinner before we left - the Kitchen and the service was excellent. We will be back before long. We can wholeheartedly recommend the Hopetoun Arms.

The Sunday roast menu was really good, a fabulous meal and beautifully cooked. A generous breakfast. Lovely peaceful location with lots of walking at hand.

It would have been nice to have had some full fat live yoghurt available as well as the unhealthy low fat sugar puddings for breakfast. Also, it would be nice to be able to have the cooked breakfast fried in healthy fats, not the highly damaging and inflammatory vegetable oils. A restful haven. The meal on the second evening was a real disappointment. Medllions of pork. But the pork was old, tough, dried out, possibly microwaved, difficult to cut and chew, and didn't taste nice. Quite a contrast to the Sunday roast. Wonderful to have cabbage, but it was overcooked and watery rather than al dente and tossed in butter and pepper.

This is a traditional hotel in a small remote village. The hotel has been well maintained and probably refreshed about 5 years ago. Our room was spacious with a large double bed and two sitting chairs. The bathroom was also spacious with separate shower and roll top bath. The staff were welcoming and courteous. Dinner and breakfast was good. The dinner menu had lots of good options at reasonable prices and we both enjoyed our meals. The breakfast menu was traditional but great if you like a full breakfast. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

The exterior could do with some sprucing up, but don't be put off.

I stayed in the twin room, which had a window view of the garden. The room was very spacious, quirky, and clean. The bathroom was huge with a powerful shower. I had a great night sleep due to the bed being very comfortable. Leadhills is very peaceful and quiet with lots of good walking and cycling routes nearby. The staff made my stay special due to every member of staff being professional and very welcoming. I didn't have dinner in the restaurant due to l being too tired, but there is an extremely good selection for breakfast with real coffee. I bumped into the owner in the garden, who was so enthusiastic about what he was planning for the garden in the future. The garden was a really nice area to sit in on a nice day. There is a car park around the back of the hotel with an electric plug-in for cars (which i didn't use, so I'm not sure what they were like). I would definitely go back and bring some wildflower seeds for the garden.

Nothing. If there had been a room available, i would have stayed another night.

A very spacious room and bathroom; mine overlooking the front with a view of the hills, was bright and comfortable. The hotel is exceptionally pet friendly; there’s even a Dinner Dog Menu – though perhaps they were pulling my leg. The cooked breakfast – with a distinction between Scottish and English (and myriad variations in between) was ably served up by Nathan who addresses all guests by their first names. The proprietor Rab – who mans the cosy bar - is proud of the hotel’s history and the heritage of the village and pleased to talk and assist guests with these aspects.

A little chilly occasionally - with no independently operated means of heating

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Scotland's highest hotel, the Hopetoun Arms Hotel, and it was a truly delightful experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that every need was met with a smile. My room was lovely, well-appointed, comfortable, and offering a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring the stunning surroundings of Leadhills. The meals at the hotel were superb, with a variety of delicious options available on the menu. The breakfast, tastefully prepared by Nathan was amazing and a delicious way start to the day. Nathan’s warm personality and professionalism was evident in every dish he served, making breakfast a memorable part of the stay. Overall, the Hopetoun Arms Hotel provides a charming and comfortable escape with exceptional service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience the beauty and hospitality of Scotland.

Just home from a 1 night stay at The Hopetoun Arms, we will definitely be returning! The hotel is such a gem! Rachel and Rab are so welcoming and their team are great! Our room was clean and had everything we needed as well as beautiful decor, super comfy bed. Accommodating our 2 springers with only a £10 per night / dog charge. We had an evening meal and breakfast, wonderful food and a good choice on the menu - both for dinner and breakfast. Great value for money - we highly recommend the hotel and will be sharing details of our stay with friends.

The Hopetoun Arms Hotel is a delightful 10 minute drive off the A74(M), so a super convenient place to stay between Southern England and further North in Scotland. Our room (the Twin with Garden View) was large and comfortable, with a large en suite shower room. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We at an evening meal in the hotel, the menu was a reasonably standard pub menu, but the food was good quality, excellently prepared, and the prices very reasonable. The breakfast was equally good. The hotel is dog friendly but spotlessly clean. The village and narrow gauge railway have an interesting history and there are good walks.

Our beds were comfortable, but felt a little unstable, perhaps because of the mattress topper.

The accommodation was warm and comfortable. After a long days driving, it was nice to sit in the dining room with an open fire giving a good ambience. The food was good quality and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was amble parking available at the hotel. The room was supplied with tea/coffee facilities and was adequate for a restful night before continuing our journey.

Room was comfortable, the decoration was a little tired. Quite strict with breakfast times. You have to be down at the time slot that you booked the previous evening. Lots of stairs to deal with as we were at the top of hotel. (Although good for burning off a few calories!!).
