The decor of the hotel was stunning and the service was of high quality. There were even some (cold) vegan options at the breakfast, thanks for that.

The sauna department was a bit outdated but very fit for its purpose. I was shocked to find a living parrot in a tiny cage at the breakfast hall. I don't need that kind of "entertainment". I felt utterly sad and disgusted during the whole breakfast because of the poor bird. I have no reason to believe they ever let the bird out of the cage, no matter what they say. This animal abuse must be reported to local authorities and animal protectors.

The room was comfortable and clean, with tea and coffee facilities. Nice bathroom and toiletries. The overall decor of the hotel was beautiful. The staff were great and attentive, bringing us water and snacks every day. The breakfast was served in a beautiful room, and was varied, with a few options they would cook fresh. Fantastic location, parking wasn't an issue though was pretty expensive (30 EUR per day).

The absolute worst thing was that you could smoke in the bar. How they allowed this in Riga (with an indoor smoking ban) I don't know, but it was hugely disappointing. It looked beautiful, but you couldn't be in there 1 minute without smelling of cigarettes. The bedroom was a bit gloomy, with little natural light, but the artificial light in the room was good. The facilities were limited considering the status of the hotel. There is a tiny tiny gym, with a running machine and bike, plus some hand weights. There's a small "spa" you can book for free, but it's just a (nice) private room with a sauna and some showers. We used it a couple of times, but once the sauna was barely hot.

Very nice room; spacious and comfortable and clean. Good breakfast (though the breakfast room tended to get filled to capacity).

We arrived by car from Vilnius, and found it impossible to reach the hotel because of road closures. We drove around for over 30 minutes and finally had the driver drop us off several blocks away — and had to drag our suitcases for the final stretch over cobblestone streets. When we arrived, the hotel name was hard to see — hidden under some ivy — and we weren’t even sure it was the right place. there was no porter, so we had to carry our luggage up steps and struggle with heavy doors. When we finally arrived at reception and complained the receptionist argued with us… took a while for the second staff member to come in and apologize for the inconvenience. After that, things were ok, but this incident made it clear to us that this place does not quite understand what service means.

The location is great. The mattress and general bedding superb. Breakfast was great with all the expected options for made-to-order available, both in terms of coffee and food. Good quality as well. Good restaurant for dinner as well. No internal noise from other rooms or the corridors. Very nice staff.

The bathtub: even with the irregular surface and the handrail (which is great to see but was not firmly attached) it felt slippery and uncomfortable to use as a shower. Better securing the handrail and possibly adding some additional anti-slip mat could help. Construction across the street, though this is temporary in nature and I only found it disrupting one day. Payment in check-in: this is mostly symbolic, but I would find it more courteous to render the services and then request payment, than to do it before even showing the room.

I enjoyed a wonderful three-day stay at the Grand Palace Hotel. First and foremost, the staff were wonderful. That goes for *all* of them, ie, at Reception, in the breakfast room, and in housekeeping. They couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome, invariably willing to go the extra mile to fulfil a request or answer a query. Secondly, the breakfast buffet itself. It was excellent in terms of quality, quantity and ambience. Particularly tasty were the scrambled eggs, freshly baked bread, salami & cheese, and apple cake. Thirdly, the housekeeping staff were always obliging and made sure that they dropped off extra water or chocolates, or turned down the bed in the evening, just to give a couple of examples. I would definitely stay at this hotel if I were ever to visit Riga again.

The only area in which I think improvement could be made was in the bathroom, specifically, in the shower. The partition between the shower and the rest of the bathroom extends only half-way, which means that the floor gets wet easily. The tub is also probably a bit too narrow for people of larger size.

The hotel was in a great location with easy access to the Old Town. The room was clean and a reasonable size. Overall, we had a good stay.

The only downside was that smoking was allowed in the bar area. This came as a big surprise and was particularly bad when they held a private dinner party on one evening, with guests moving to the bar area just to smoke.

Very central location and within walking distance of areas of interest. The breakfast is excellent and the omlettes amazing and nice to see cooked in the breakfast room with your filling of choice, made even nicer by the daily smile of the very attentive staff. The bar is old world and comfortable without being to stuffy. Check in/out was seamless, with engaging and helpful desk staff. I used the sauna and relaxation area and it was clean and well serviced. The gym area is to small and not really for working out in. Overall a wonderful stay..

A nice hotel in the historic part of Riga (Old Riga). Very friendly and hospitable staff. Fantastic breakfast, you can even meet the local pet parrot Misha that resides in his cage in the corner of the restaurant (don't worry, he has a freedom to leave it when almost nobody's around).

I guess I was a bit unlucky to get a room that is rarely used by other guests, because I have no other explanation why nobody had noticed that TV and wireless phone were broken. The TV had to be replaced completely, but the phone just required new rechargeable batteries. Suggestion for sauna area in case somebody from the hotel reads this - please place the clock in a better spot that can be seen from sauna as well, otherwise it's hard to tell if the booked time is over, especially if you're alone.

We had a very pleasant and restful stay. The staff members were courteous and highly accommodating, especially when recommending a day out to Sigulda. I would like to emphasis the staff were very friendly throughout the hotel from check in to bar staff to cleaners to waitresses. The location is outstanding, as it is conveniently situated near the main attractions while also providing a peaceful environment for a good night’s sleep. Very comfortable and clean rooms with a nice view of the cobbled street below. The bar offered an elegant setting for relaxation. Additionally, breakfast was served in a relaxed atmosphere, and the hot dishes were delightful, I'd recommend the porridge and eggs Benedict. I'd definitely say it was one of best hotels we have stayed at.
