The property was well situated; near the station and the centre of the city. The room was a comfortable temperature and the staff very warm and friendly. Breakfasts were beautifully cooked and the restaurant meal in the evening was delicious.

The lighting in the room was too low for my liking. I struggled to read a book once it was dark outside, unless I moved to the desk lamp. Ideally the television should have been at the foot of the bed, so that you didn't have to twist to the side to watch it. This couldn't happen because the bed faced the window. Therefore the bed needed to be moved against the desk wall.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Malmaison York in April. The hotel is very stylish and modern and the rooms were a good size. Breakfast was delicious (although expensive!). One thing to note if you aren't travelling as a couple - there is no 'bathroom' as such in the club rooms. The shower cubicle in the has a clear glass door that opens directly into the room, with only a glass wall between that area and the rest of the room. My octogenarian mother wasn't very comfortable with this arrangement (neither was I!) but we were able to upgrade to a family room which has two rooms, one with a sofa bed and one with a king size bed, with the bathroom in between them. The bathroom technically doesn't have a door but you can close both bedroom doors for privacy. Both the club rooms and family rooms have a Nespresso machine with pods supplied. The lighting in the rooms is quite moody so it can be dark, but we didn't find this to be a problem, and it adds to the style of the rooms. One aspect we did find irritating is the lack of surfaces or pegs to put things on in the bathroom. The sink is large with very little surface round it, some shelves in the empty space below the sink unit would have been appreciated to store toiletry bags etc, and some hooks for hanging robes or towels outside the shower. None of this would stop me going back to the hotel though, we had a really lovely stay, and the hotel is perfectly positioned for easy access to the centre of the city and to the train station. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

Excellent location to get into City if York easily. Walking distance to many points of interest. The room was very chic and unusual to have divider enabling a shower/wash room in same room. Very modern. Sensor lighting enabling nighttime visit to toilet easily lit automatically. Hidden television was impressive. Plugs everywhere with USB sockets incorporated. Plenty of coffee sachet, herbal and English teas. Opted to ‘go green’ and not have housekeeping the 2nd day. As a thank you hotel gave us a voucher for £7.50 per person drinks in the bar. It meant towels were not replaced, bed wasn’t made and refreshment tray not replenished. On 3rd day we had to ask for more toilet paper as well as refreshments. Refrigerator was plenty big enough to place out water and snack but not really cold enough. We were told by ‘Alice’ in the bar to visit the Japanese restaurant for the view of York from the perimeter balcony on 7th floor. We did this and it was a nice view. The restaurant was huge but we don’t like Japanese food so chose not to eat there. The main restaurant where breakfast is served is excellent. Main breakfasts are cooked to order and always perfect. The pastries were freshly cooked, yogurt fresh, fresh fruit salad NOT out of a tin. All freshly cut/prepared every day. Large ‘Jackson’s’ slides bread for self-toasting, Bon Maman jams, honey l, fresh pats of real butter in a small tray ion the table. Fresh squeeEd orange, apple and other juice, fresh milk (not long life!) oat/almond milk available all time, cereals, raisins, seeds and home made granola (was a favourite!) Digital vending machine available at the life lobby serving snacks, chocolate, drinks etc. . All staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will returned if we get a good deal/offer in future! We were advised to upgrade and will definitely ask for a Minster view next time. The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from York Main Line Train station.

The pillows were too soft for us but we put up with them as we kept forgetting to ask for firmer alternatives! No sink in the toilet so we took a bottle of water to assist with cleaning ourselves!

Clean, comfy room with good quality pillows. We got a suite with a bath… the water at best was warm. Run the bath with no cold water and could get straight it, the only fault for the whole stay (I’m Half mermaid 🧜🏻‍♀️ so would have loved a hot bath). We had brekkie and evening meal in the hotel. The evening meal was quality, tasty and reasonable and the breakfast is quality. The homemade granola is delicious. Drinks were reasonable in price, the cocktails we tasty. We also pre booked hotel parking, a bargain for £25 and you car is tucked away and safe. Staff we happy, smily and attentive. All round a great stay & I would highly recommend ⭐️

The location was excellent - everything we wanted to see was within a few minutes walking distance and also just a 5 min walk from the station. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. There was a slight delay in our room being ready (15 mins) and we were given 2 complimentary drink vouchers. We were enjoying our cocktail in the bar when the receptionist came to give us our room keycard and all the info we needed. Staff at breakfast were helpful and friendly.

I feel that a hook and a small stool in the bathroom would have made having a shower easier. Also a hook in the room to hang up heavy coats - the wardrobe hanging space was quite small.

Location is fantastic. Parking facilities are well worth paying for. Huge spaces in a secure car park. Lovely ride if top bar. Staff fantastic! We left some belongings behind and these were sent to us promptly. Thank you - brilliant!

Shower door seal was leaking but we only mentioned it on departure which was our choice to not report earlier and if previous guests had not reported it, it’s tough for hotel. Hotel does have a strange way of charging you for you stay though. They take a pre-auth fee of £100 (I can’t totally understand this) but add this to your total bill. Would be helpful if this was a separate fee. I had 2 pre-auth of the total bill amount on my credit card balance which was quite unnerving.

Malmaison is a newly designed hotel with the modern traveler in mind. Large shower with two specific push button shower controls to choose either rain shower or handheld nozzle. Automatically lighted magnifying mirrror at the vanity with vanity stool was an unexpected and useful bonus. The blackout curtain worked very well. Independent adjustable reading lamps on each side of the bed was easy to use. Desk with outlet for laptop and charging station was in the right location in the corner. Separate toilet stall. Cleverly hidden closet, fridge, tea tray iron and. Ironing board, safe, all usefully placed. We liked the glass divider between the bathroom/kitchen area and bedroom area. The room felt large because one could see sunlight coming through the glass partition. Design was modern with a nod to herringbone tradition of York. Location couldn’t have been better with easy walk to/from rail station and the Old Town. Easy access to the best restaurants and the Minster. Hôtel clearly meant for late night drinks, early breakfast meetings and dinner on the 7th Floor at restaurant with rooftop/sunset views.

There needs to be a mirror placed above the sink on the glass partition for shaving.

Lovely decor, friendly staff and location was perfect! Our family room was very spacious. Would definitely stay here again.

Nothing wrong with the property! Lovely hotel. Unfortunately service was a bit slow in the restaurant during our evening meal and queues at reception on three occasions was very big! My room wasn’t ready at 3 pm so I had to return. However all the staff were lovely, helpful and were all working really hard on reception. Not really their fault they were understaffed, managements fault! Breakfast wasn’t the greatest for a four star hotel but their prawn cocktail from their evening menu was one of the best ones we’ve ever had! Overall a lovely hotel and I would definitely return.

Brought my sister here for her 25th birthday; nothing asked of them was too much, All the staff in the hotel and both restaurants were a pleasure and nothing was too much for them even at 2-3am (Im not the easiest of customers) everything we asked for we received within 5 minutes. The coffee machine in room was broke but as soon as we told the ladies on reception they brought us a new one straight up. We stayed in a club room and it had a brilliant view from the window, was spotless, beds really comfy and the shower was out of this world. The resources within the hotel are great. The rooftop bar is fabulous and they have the best food by far. On the last day have to check out at 11am but wanted to spend the day in York still the hotel was happy to keep our luggage safe for us until our train this evening. Thank you very much to all staff that have worked over this weekend and for making our stay one to remember we will definitely be returning back here

Couldn’t open windows in room and it did get warm on night in there

I hosted 20 guests for my Silcoates school reunion. Initially I had a cocktail reception in my very spacious hotel suite with a fantastic size bathroom in an elegant contemporary design. Housekeeping was immaculate and clean. We moved to the roof bar...great vibe, bar host superb and best ever cocktails. Afterwards our restaurant host Alison was super amazing. The chefs menu was perfection, all served on time, beautifully presented and exceptionally flavoursome. The restaurant team delivered to perfection. Overall an amazing hotel. The location incredible, love the design aspect. I walked past the conference area and the layout looks superb. An A-TEAM. I will defiantly try out their other city hotels too. Highly recommend.
