The location of the hotel is on a main road and has good links to local area. Sainsbury is a short walk away if you are looking to pick up snacks. The room was very comfortable and spacious with all the extra’s e.g. iron/ board, hairdryer so if you don’t need to over pack these extra items. The hotel breakfast was lovely and the evening food is amazing. I had something different every night from the menu and couldn’t fault the service.
Why is breakfast two different prices if you pre order it’s cheaper than on the day. If you’re getting something extra for pre ordering but there wasn’t the breakfast was the same.

Lovely helpful Staff, special thanks to Chris, Abi and Emily at Reception. Room was spacious and had a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Bathroom had good quality hand soap, shower and hair wash in liquid dispensers. I particularly appreciated having a door chain too. All very clean and comfortable. No lift but the stairs are very shallow so are easy. Bus stops to city centre, Bristol Temple Meads train station and Bath are only about 3 minutes walk from hotel. There is a huge Sainsbury’s store about 10 minutes walk away. The luggage storage facility is very useful. I have rebooked as it’s perfect for me for business in city centre. Taxi to city centre costs around £7 and they vibe very quickly.
I’m only adding this because the review box asks for it. I like to be able to open windows in hotel rooms but I didn’t manage to do so, I think it does open but seemed stuck.

Breakfast was good - particularly enjoyed the croissants, yogurt and fruits (banana chips and walnuts - what a treat!) Reception staff helpful/professional and breakfast staff friendly. Breakfast plentiful, lots of variety and replenished. Room and bed were comfortable, with controllable heating. Well equipped room with hairdryer, ironing board/ iron. Good hanging space. Nice toiletries provided. Hot shower. Nice vibe in the bar. Beautiful building with some lovely features.
Would certainly stay again… Would have liked a hand towel (or two) - two nice bath towels were provided, but no hand towels. Creaky floorboards in room above (and ours too) sounded like people loitering in corridors late at night. Of course they weren’t, but it sounded like it 😂 The joys of staying in an authentic historical building. Rubbish hotel ‘biscuit’ pillows, but not unusual at this price point. Take your own if this bothers you. Location itself suffered from some traffic/ siren noise during the evenings/ night, but this was outweighed by the positives and value for money.

We stayed for one night, the day before Valentine’s Day as I couldn’t get a babysitter for Valentine’s night. The location was great as we wanted to visit Arnos Vale cemetery which we did the next day. Beautiful experience. Also very regular buses, we got a bus to the city centre and back in the evening so we could go for a meal. The hotel was lovely, the room was a decent price and had an en-suite bathroom and very comfortable bed. Staff were courteous and friendly, breakfast was great. Lots of variety including vegan sausages if you ask, lots of other options for vegans and vegetarians if required.
For the one night we stayed I can’t really think of anything that could be improved, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend and stay with you again.

The executive suite was lovely, I really liked the jacuzzi bath. the room was big and spacious and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was nice and good value and we were able to bring our cats, which was nice. The location is good and in a lovely setting. I had always been interested in the hotel as a local to Bristol and was happy to stay there.
There weren't any bedside lights or plugs to charge your phone next to the bed. We did have a very noisy neighbour on our first night. Perhaps there should be a rule about noise.

Great staff very friendly, after discovering of staying there it's the second most haunted place in uk, music played there are amazing, bar looks lovely, only thing is in room 125 WiFi isn't that great keep losing it, room service there was great also food smell lush. Would stay again. It's pricey something like £200 i would recommend they should do an inclusive offer to help the value to stay, free WiFi isn't much perhaps discount on food and drink would be ideal. But overall it's a lovely place to stay also slept well there.
bathroom was so noisy could hear the traffic as like the bathroom didn't have any walls lmao even though there was some.

The good parts were it was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable. Breakfast is self service with lots of choices from a light breakfast to full english. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I'm sure the majority of rooms were fine but the one I had was very long and narrow and to be honest it felt like I was walking into a store cupboard. As a solo traveller I expected a small room but this one, although it had the expected facilities they were spread out along what looked like a corridor but widened a little where bed, tv, small table was with bathroom at the end. The two radiators along one side were not really enough at this time of year for this elongated room. The bathroom was very cold in spite of the heated towel rail, too cold for me to want a shower and the water to hand basin was barely luke warm.

Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful
1. There was no gluten free bread for breakfast - an omission for a hotel which is not cheap (we did ask, all that could be offered was porridge) 2. There was no fresh fruit at breakfast, despite there being a picture on your banner advertising breakfast. It was all from frozen or canned, not nearly as nice. 3. When we arrived we were told that check-in was from 3pm, and would cost £20 extra as it was only 2pm. However, once we pointed out that our email from you said 2pm all was fine - but you might like to check this inconsistency.

Historic and picturesque hotel. It is from some centuries ago, still with charm and elegance. We loved it. I hope they didn't remove this charm with any modern refurbishment Very comfortable bed, bedroom with a romantic space for a tea time Lovely breakfast with fruits, many hot drinks, hot foods, specialy arranged. Amazing staff, the barman, the receptionist and Joan, in the breakfast area.
As we arrived from a side that it was not possible to see the parking entrance, we needed to pass the hotel and go onwards, to be able to stop band check how to reach the entrance. It would be good if the hotel had an indication that the parking lot would be right on the other side.

I booked the hotel because a friend of mine who I was visiting lives close by. Otherwise I don't think the location has much to offer. The hotel itself has a enough going for it that you can stay there for the night if you don't know what to do. The bar is comfy, I was told the food is good (I didn't eat there myself), and if you haven't been to England or you are not from Europe, you will enjoy staying in something that almost feels like a genuine castle.
I think "not like" is a strong word. I didn't dislike anything, because it's what I expected. But I think if people are used to standard hotel rooms these days, the patina and character that comes with this place might rub them the wrong way. This is not a business hotel, but more like a gem with a reference to a time gone by.
