The Hotel was spotless , warm and the staff friendly and helpfull , the gym was closed for refurbishment , but the Pool , steam room and Jacuzzi were open , clean and well maintained.

The journey to the room was a bit of a trek up and down stairs , some of the staff doors were a little tatty , the ground floor room reached by going down three flights and up two flights was clean but the TV was badly situated and angled so that it was difficult to watch from the bed. The breakfast was particularly disappointing , plenty of fruit and cerial but the full English was not value for money especially when compared to other establishments.

Very clean and friendly. Lots of charm and history in the building

Used the spa facilities and found they were a bit grubby, inside the pool the hand rail. The lights on the pool area could do with been replaced too. But apart from that it was ok. The full English breakfast was awful. The continental was fantastic

The hotel is an older style hotel lots of stain glass windows and dark wood, it has a lovely area for breakfast, bar and reception. Our room was large with a decent size bathroom, and lovely size bed. We enjoyed the amenities, Nespresso coffee machine, tea, biscuits and kettle. We also used the leisure centre twice during our visit. Swimming pool is a decent size if a little small, two jacuzzis, a sauna and steam room. We enjoyed these a lot.

Despite the wonderful character of the hotel, incredible attentive staff and brilliant facilities the general appearance was tired and in need of a good deep clean. The leisure centre is used by locals as a gym/membership and when talking to them they spoke about the lack of cleanliness in the leisure centre which we unfortunately had to agree with. We noticed, and having visited both days we saw the same dirt, hair and crumbs on the floors. This was disappointing. We also noticed hairs on the floor and around the bathroom in our hotel room which we would have thought would have been hoovered before our check-in. This however didn’t ruin our stay.

Facilities, staff and location were excellent. Great parking facilities and hotel was comfortable.

Cleanliness could have been better and mobile reception was poor

Allowed us to park up early - (but we did not check-in) Room was adequate for the one night. The 'front of house' staff at meal times were very friendly and efficient, very apologetic for constant delays in service (45 minutes from sitting down and receiving our first course.

See above problems/delay at meal times. Possibly need more kitchen staff ( soup was luke warm) did not mention this to waitresses, she seemed a little rushed at the time. The nature of the hotel design' meant a lack of lifts - which we could understand - but for moving luggage was inconvenient (seeing as we seemed to be in the farthest room up from Reception and Dining Room

Close to the friends I was visiting easy to find. Stayed for 2 night, breakfast was good although continental choices limited. Waiting staff particularly the older gentleman very polite and efficient. Check in and out staff friendly and helpful. We didn’t use the bar but appeared busy. Pool area clean and tidy and warm. Rooms are dated but overall clean (although some attention To detail missed a couple of cobwebs, beds comfy and room generally clean aside from the issues outlined above

Quite dated rooms and towels not changed daily.

room was very adequate in size. The shower was adequate but not a real good flow to it. And standing in the bath, there was insufficient standing room width wise. so I nearly slipped over. ( there was no mat ) I thought the sink hot tap was too hot. Dangerously scalding hot in fact. I appreciated the heating. which I had on all night. It was cold and I feel the cold. The bed was adequate but mattrass had a spongy feel. No consistency or give in it . And the pillows werent the best or the worst. Just average. Again, no give in them Biscuits, crisps and teas were plentiful, And being in Room 250, i was very near to the housekeepers larder which was handy for communication. And very handily located for the gym and pool which I took full advantage of.. I have stayed here before. Whilst I appear to be critical, the friendliness and helpfulness always wins through whether in REception, housekeeper, restaurant or the leisure club. I arrived too late to eat this time as it happened. I did appreciate being given an extra half hours checking out time. T oo much time completing my Bulgarian Split Thrusts not to mention my Russian Twists ! There was no noise at any time which is always a bonus and is always a feature of my stay here.

I apologise. I have made all my critique in the ' like ' section

The hotel was very grand and beautiful. The staff were friendly helpful and all round good. The leisure facilities were great for a little relax time. Breakfast was good, a good range of cereals and breads, the cooked breakfast was yummy, fresh and tasty. The room was comfy and spacious, we didn't have a view but had complimentary snack because of the lack of view. ( brick wall)

The food prices were a little high, although good quality. Would have liked to see a little more fruit varieties on the breakfast, with more options for children.

Nice old converted house with plenty of parking space, set back from the main road. The core is full of character and used in a very sympathetic way. The main rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Staff are all friendly, professional and helpful. Rooms are in various extensions which have been added over the years with a leisure suite in the basement which I didn't use. The room was of good size, nice en-suite with a bath/shower, warm and well lit with an outlook over the rear. Although the hotel was busy it was quiet at night with no disturbances. Breakfast very good, cooked and buffet continental with attentive staff. I didn't use the restaurant in the evening, I don't like sitting by myself!

Someone lifting weights every evening made my room shake when the dropped them!

Most interesting architectural features in this lovely old building; the main staircase and stained glass windows are striking, as is the quality of the intricate plasterwork on some ceilings. Very good full English breakfast, cooked freshly to order. Wide choice of cereals, fruit and yoghurts. Courteous and helpful service. The room was clean and well prepared; bed-linen spotless and plenty of towels.

The hotel is very old and, given the layout of buildings that have been added, the room was some distance from reception, with a lots of stairs to reach it. I should have specified on the booking form that, since we are both getting older, we would have difficulty managing all these stairs with luggage, so my fault entirely. Having said this, the staff were most helpful and carried our luggage for us. We will certainly stay here again. Next time I shall make our needs clear.
