Hotel des Balances is located right at the centre of Lucerne OldTown, next to the river and facing the Jesuit Church. The building seemed to be one of the heritage properties of the city with murals all over its walls and a tourist attraction as well. Location wise, it couldn’t have been any better. The room is appropriately sized for 3 people (not too big but that is normal in European cities), clean and luxurious. We had taken the river view room, so had an amazing view of the church, the wooden bridge and most part of the old town. We had dinner in the restaurant … it was truly an awesome experience. The food, the presentation of the food, the courteousness of the staff … everything was beyond expectation. This was easily our best meal of our trip.

The hotel is located in the center of the city, close to the train station and all the shops at walkable distance. The Hotel offers a wonderful view on the river and the mountains, in the evening with all the lights on, the landscape is just great. The room was spacious and clean with 2 small balconies facing the river. We had a NESPRESSO machine with a variety of coffee choices that were restocked every day. Every day the staff would pass by offering small chocolates to the client of the hotel. WIFI connection was very good. We had also a dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was very good.

Nothing special to dislike

My third time staying there! There is no better location in Lucern! The restaurant has a Michelin star! We needed up eating there all three nights - also because Lucern has been very busy and if you don’t book it is hard to find place for dinner. The view over the lake and chapel bridge is the best. Close to weekend market and all the shopping street, the more interesting part of the city. 10mins walk to the Lucern train station. They have water and ice machine at every level- super convenient!

Nothing - but having a balcony or not makes a huge difference! Ask for one!

The location is about 10 minutes fast walking to the train station in Lucerne. I had a good view of the river with the Chapel Bridge. The staff were excellent n very helpful. Buffet breakfast was very substantial. There's a very good Thai restaurant facing the hotel main entrance. Small n unnoticeable, the humble chef cooks very authentic Thai dishes. Nearby there's also a good HK Cantonese restaurant called Asia Food Town. Dishes were

Some rooms have a 3" step at the main room doorway. Though there's a warning sign on the door, this could be dangerous if the guest forgets. Housekeeping staff didn't replenish the body wash, although I deliberately left the empty bottle on the table top. I had to ask for another from the reception staff.

Location is great, very close to main sights and easily walkable. Rooms are very pretty and overall comfortable, clean, and staff is friendly. Hotel is 5-8 min walk from the train station and easily accessible

We asked for a quiet room but were placed in one next to an elevator, ice machine, and the housekeeping closets which made for a noisier stay than preferred. Faucet placement in the bathtub was awkward (midway down a long side) so when showering you hit your knees on the faucet rather than it being on one of the short ends of the tub.

Beautiful building. We had a suite with a balcony and it was gorgeous.

Probably a very American complaint, but the a/c didn’t work and it was quite muggy in the room. Our room wasn’t ready even though we arrived after check-in, which was odd. And then housekeeping walked in without knocking even though we had the privacy tassel on the door. He said he was told we had already checked out, which again, was odd, because we hadn’t.

The room, facilities, staff and location were great. We had a balcony room, which has a great view. We spent a lot of time just sitting on the balcony and enjoying the river, people, mountains, city and the atmosphere. The location is right in old town on the river. There are numerous great restaurants and shopping within a short walk. The hotel restaurant is also very good, and you don't have to leave the hotel. The staff was excellent. We loved our stay.

Price was a little high. But for the location, staff, and facilities, you get what you pay for.

Number of nights - 1 Room type - Queen Room Pros: 1. Room - the room is clean however is very small. It has all the amenities you require, however if you have 2 suitcases, it difficult to open it :) 2. Bathroom - clean and spacious 3. Staff - very friendly. The staff invited us for free drinks at bar in the evening. 4. Location - excellent. It is central and right on the water. You can enjoy your meals at the balcony and enjoy the views. 5. Breakfast - it was fresh and tasty. 6. Value for money - a bit at the expensive side but it is due to quality and location.

Location is fantastic and the staff was really super. The view was beautiful facing the water. The room was very clean.

The room I had facing the water room 208, was so small it is not possible for 2 people to walk around comfortably in the room at the same time. They don't have a picture of this room on the site or a picture of this bathroom. The bathroom could not have been any smaller. It looks like maybe they put it in a closet. The hotel, hallway, room and especially the bathroom would not be suitable if someone was physically challenged getting around.

Gorgeous room, BIG, balcony was absolutely lovely to eat breakfast on. Views wonderful. Central location. I was incredibly impressed by the quality of the hair dryer and the fact that they had a diffuser attachment for us curly girls! First hotel I've ever stayed at that had a diffuser available. It made me so happy. This hotel was our favorite stay in Switzerland (8 cities).
