The staff here are excellent, they were always helpful and friendly and professional. The breakfast was great, lots of variety suiting different tastes/needs/peculiarities, and they also had a cool cheese and wine/mimosa room at breakfast, if your holiday leans in that direction. And it did. It was my wife's birthday and they gave us complementary chocolates and champagne, which helped our holiday lean even further in that direction. Location is excellent, right in the middle of it, but still quiet inside. Bed was super comfortable.

This hotel has an excellent location. Right on the river and the center of many of the things happening in the city. We upgraded to a balcony room that faced the river. Well worth the charge. Beautiful views. Every morning there was a great breakfast included. Though the building is old world, this hotel was very updated and had many modern conveniences. An extra nice touch was the welcome amenity of port and pastries. Also, a fantastic shower. I don't think I've ever encountered a shower with the pressure and temps that this one had.

Because of the location, it is at the bottom of the hill, along the river. Everywhere is an uphill walk, but the positive is that it is downhill on the way back to the hotel. Many times cars are not allowed down the street to the hotel, so upon check out, we had to walk the block up the hill to meet our Bolt taxi.

Location could not have been better. Staff were excellent. Friendly courteous and very helpful. The room looked out over the River Douro so excellent views. Bar area especially outside was well located and provided a very pleasant environment for a casual drink. The elevators all worked well.

Breakfast was OK but less than I would have expected from a 5 Star hotel. The facilities too were less than expected from a 5 Star facility. Not a very large room, not much storage space, few coat hangers & no chest of drawers for clothing. The shower was an "over-the-bath" version with a high step over the bath edge and no shower curtain with the result that water made otherwise dry areas overly wet. The water flow into the hand basin was very slow so getting enough water was an overly-lengthy process.

The Location was amazing, this could not have been beaten especially as we had a balcony room at the front of the hotel overlooking the famous view.. Breakfast was amazing all you could eat with a wide range of food choices.. Pestano 50 year book gave great explanation of the growth of this family run business and its growth intp Porto.. some staff were exemplary in there assistance. Plenty to do in the area ,need at least 4 days stay to see things. Uber taxis are great and overall wonderful break away

I felt the onsite Rib restaurant was over priced though high quality meats were served. Lightning was an issue and customers were using mobile phone torches to read the menu and view the food, ambience was good but some other lighting necessary. Two staff let the team down over the week , one particularly slow waitress who will not survive summer pace and another housekeeper who was shocked when we came back to the room and was charging their phone on our chargers !

This is our second stay at a Pestana and it was as good as the first one (in Madeira). The location is adjacent to the River Douro and only 5 minutes walk from the Ponte Luis. The hotel staff were all fantastically helpful and kind. The lady who booked us in (Diana) was really kind and organised dinner bookings for us at 2 local restaurants that served traditional Portuguese food. The atmosphere of the Hotel is calm and luxurious yet historical and in keeping with the architecture of the region.

It was all good. The only slight inconvenience, which did not bother us, was the limited access for taxis directly to the Hotel unless they had an additional permit. We walked the 2 minutes from the main road and it was not a problem.

The location was excellent with a wonderful view from our bedroom. The staff were very helpful and welcoming on our arrival. We arrived early and were delighted that the hotel could accommodate this.

The steps down from the bedroom to the en-suite bathroom which we didn't know about before booking and so had to leave a light on in the bathroom to make sure we were safe during the night in case we needed to use the bathroom. The shower had no thermostatic control and at one point got excessively hot which was reported as we were concerned this was a health and safety risk. Although someone apparently looked at it, it happened again. The food at the restaurant on our first night was cold (steak and fries), it would help to serve on heated plates and to manage the service so it arrives to the table hot. Similarly, the breakfast hot buffet was not hot.

The hotel is in a perfect location and I loved being so close to the water .I was pleasantly surprised at the modern bathroom as some of the reviews were disappointed by them .The room was lovely and the bed comfy .There was noise outside but the singers stopped early in the evening .The staff were lovely .I would say that the breakfast was the area that could have been improved .I know it was exceptionally busy but I have been to other hotels where it’s been slicker .The hot food was just warm and even the food ordered was tepid .There was no system to get a coffee or a specific person to request the breakfast from . All could be remedied so I would not fault the staff who all tried their best .A fabulous break away

Location was great as it by the waterside and walkable to main attractions like the key churches, São Bento station and Livaria Lello. Breakfast had a wide spread, with hot food made to order and even wine and cheese! Most of all the staff were fantastic, most helpful and friendly. Made us feel like we are a part of the family. We ate dinner at Rib restaurant with great food and they even gave a discount and free cocktails!

The air-conditioning/heater was difficult to control. Perhaps it was winter and the cold came in. Wished we had a room facing the river though. Perhaps next time.

I certainly recommend booking one of the river view rooms because that view from the balcony was rather special. You are literally just meters from the Duoro River flowering through Porto and luckily, there was minimal to no noise from the pedestrians below. You are also right next to shops (limited) and restaurants, but avoid the touristy restaurants which are open pretty much throughout the day. Get the hotel to book you a restaurant that opens after 6.30pm as that is where the locals go.

Breakfast, whilst having plenty of choices, was busy and tables are really squeezed into the rather limited space, so you are always bumping into fellow guests. Also, our room needed 2 separate lifts to get to, or you walk up one flight and then take the second lift. My key card didn't work with 1 day to go and took 3 visits up and down to reception to get the door battery replaced. But these were minor issues for the great view.
