The place is very grand feeling as it's in an old colonial house. It was well situated for me and the things I wanted to do. I would walk to v&a for supper and there's a grocery store around the corner. A bit of a walk to downtown and Bo Kaap but it was doable.

I booked a 6 person down but was put I to a 10 person dorm.i don't think they actually do have 6 person dorms. The beds and floors are squeaky so it can be a bit noisy. The doors have these push locks on them that never seem to work so we always kept our room door unlocked at night to minimize the fiddling which would wake people up. The beds didn't have curtains or a light.

I had booked 10 nights at Big Blue Backpackers but I ended up extending for longer because I like the place alot. It is in a quiet part of Greenpoint but you still have just 1 minut walk to restaurants etc. It is in a walkable distance to the Waterfront and to the center of town as well. My room is nice and have what I need - a bed, a table and a chair and a small closet. All the shared facilities are cleaned throughout the day. The other guests are a mix of travellers and people staying longterm. Personally I like this kind of mix as it gives you interaction both with other travellers and locals. All the staff are super kind and very helpful and you feel very welcomed. If I go back to Cape Town I will definitely stay at Big Blue Backpackers again.

I booked a room but was kindly upgraded to an apartment across the street. I was able to use the main house facilities, there is a big cozy lounge and a good overall feeling, nice to hang out with other travelers. I made good use of the guest computer (hard to find these days!). Staff is fabulous and go out of their way to advise and help you with anything you might need. The area is safe, walking distance from waterfront. Supermarket is near, several restaurants as well. Good place to stay.

Apt tv did not work (there is one in the lounge but a persistent fellow guest was "in charge" of the remote at all times!).

The room we stayed in was basic but extremely clean. We were close to the pool and the bar but there was no noise from residents even though it was a Saturday night. Single female plus young daughter and never felt scared walking from main road to the residence- lots of visible security. Staff were very friendly and always present. Bed was very comfy and wifi was great. I can appreciate that not everyone likes the “homey” atmosphere- with long term residents hanging out or the dogs on the couches - but that added to the appeal for us; we felt super comfy. Private rooms were dead quiet and relaxing.

I didn’t have any issues. Had to hunt for the charger plugs but they were there and enough to charge laptop and phone.

This place will very easily feel like your second home - but your privacy is undisturbed. It's easy to meet people in one of the many different common rooms. The owners would also join if they have the time. Very social and open. Also they take care of things immediately. Feels very safe, security measures are taken seriously and the neighborhood is also safe (compared to other areas of Capetown).

ELSIE AND MONRAY MET US WITH SMILES AND HELPFULNESS EVERY DAY. SO KIND AND GENEROUS HOSTS. THE AMBIANCE IS SO PLEASANT AND COZY MEETING PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD IN THE COMMON AREAS. EVERYTHING IS CLEAN AND CALM AND GOOD VIBES. WE RETURNED TO THE BIG BLUE BACKPACKERS SEVERAL TIMES, ALTHOUGH IT IS OFTEN VERY BOOKED, WE WERE LUCKY. ALSO IT IS SO CLOSE TO EVERYTHING AND QUIET AT NIGHT. LOVER IT ALL. THANK YOU ELSIE AND MONRAY 🥰

Excellent location. Could easily access V&A Waterfront. Loved our large, double room ensuite. Kitchen facilities were numerous, nice light dining area, comfy sofas for relaxing with TV & with the pool and bar it felt more like a hotel than backpackers! The staff were what made the place and always had a smile on their faces and time to chat. I had left my watch in the room when we left and the kind lady came running to find me with it. The backpackers had a lovely atmosphere, guests of all ages were respectful (staying during the holidays - New Years Eve- I expected it to be more rowdy but thankfully it wasn’t) and the location up a small cul de sac meant there was little traffic.

Honestly can’t find any faults ..

I am Swiss and have spent enough nights in 4 and 5 star hotels as a flight attendant. But I also realized that real life doesn't happen there. If you're looking for luxury and prestige, go somewhere else. I spent 10 days in the hostel at the beginning of December 2023. I give a 10 because of the value for money. Absolutely brilliant location - just below Signal Hill, direct ascent possible. Very close to Greenpoint. Near the city. And somehow a quiet location. Top quality shop just around the corner. Good quality breakfast very close. I would particularly like to highlight the qualities of the receptionist, who gave me valuable insider tips several times. There are a few washrooms that don't have much to offer, but there is one washroom that I found classy. I didn't need the kitchen, but it seemed big and practical to me. Everything is pretty straightforward. I say thanks a lot! p.s.: I have been to CPT many times, but because of the location of the hostel I learned to appreciate the Greenpoint oasis for the first time. For relaxing, jogging, working out, reading, meeting people,...

1.Clean bathrooms.2.I could use the PC to complete my assignments.Its a good place, better than a few that I've been to around. I WILL MOST DEFINITELY CALL AGAIN.

While I was doing my assignment, the male receptionist came n switched off the lights with no warning nothing,i had to use my phone to finish as i was down stair for PC.Also I am scared of dogs and there were 2 walking loose so I was jumpy the whole time.
