The location is ideal, on Princes Street, perfect for exploring this beautiful city. Fantastic view from my window. The staff were charming and helpful and my room was immaculate. Very comfortable bed. Buffet breakfast was a great start to the day (excellent coffee). There are steps up to reception, but porterage was available and prompt As a. Solo female traveller I felt respected and safe. . I would certainly consider using the Waverley when I return to Edinburgh.

Some parts of the hotel are a little tired, but really this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the stay.

Great location, very close to the train station. The staff was very friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The breakfast was English style, which my wife and I really enjoyed. Very close to most of the city's tourist attractions.

The entrance to reception has stairs, which can be a problem for those with reduced mobility (or heavy luggage). There's only one elevator after reception, which can be a bit slow at times. Our room overlooked what appeared to be an office, so we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. Furthermore, the room was quite noisy, even at night, as there was construction nearby.

The location was perfect. It was a short walk from the train station. Apparently my room had been upgraded because I had a lovely view of the Sir Walter Scott statue and Old Town. You can walk to the major tourist sites. The room was small but I was comfortable and a room with a view is special to me. The bus stop for the bus to the airport is just around the corner. I had to leave earlier than the time the included buffet breakfast opened. I was able to order a room service breakfast though which was very helpful. I would stay here again.

There are some steps to get into the lobby. They will carry your luggage for you if you ask. Once in the lobby there is an elevator. But the entry steps are a disadvantage for those of us who find carrying suitcases uncomfortable for our aging bodies.

Staff were very friendly and very helpful with all our requests. We had been given a very small room on 6th floor with tiny windows. However, when I spoke with Barret (I'm unsure of the correct spelling, sorry) the following morning he went above and beyond the call of duty and found a different room with very large windows to let some air in as it was very hot during our stay (no air con in rooms, understandable as very old building). He also brought me up to see the room before moving us. Excellent service and would recommend to friends. Room, bed linen towels all spotless. The breakfast was good, maybe a bit more choice in breads and pastries !

No bottled water in room on arrival which is really standard in hotels now. I was a bit surprised at this considering the price of the room for 4 days. Sinks in bathroom very high, if you had kiddies with you they would not be able to reach the tap ! It could do with a lick of paint and new carpets in bedroom as they were a bit worn looking. It would make a huge difference to the overall look of the hotel.

I had stayed at the Old Waverley Hotel before so I knew more or less what to expect. I had a reasonable size room with a bathtub, not just a shower, which was welcome. The staff were helpful and friendly and even gave my breakfast apple a wash when I asked! Breakfasts were all right although there wasn't that much choice. The hotel is also in a very central location and very close to the main Edinburgh Waverley Station.

The hotel is rather expensive. For the money I paid, I would have expected breakfast to be included in the room price. Also, guests have to pay a £25.00 deposit against any breakages in the room. I really thought this was a bit unnecessary.

This is the oldest hotel in Edinburgh, which is charming! If old isn't your choice then don't stay here. We love it. The location was amazing. Walk out the door puts you across the street from Waverly Station and bridge. Close to walk up the Royal Mile to the Castle....and a short walk to Carlton Hill. The was comfortable. The bathroom is a good size. The bar overlooks the city at night. Breakfast had so many options, and it was lovely. There are stairs up to the reception but the staff will carry your luggage up. The lift works quite well. We will return!

I stayed at this hotel from 27th February to 1st March and genuinely enjoyed my accommodation. The location is superb – just a 3-minute walk from the train station and within easy walking distance of Edinburgh’s main attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful, making the stay even more pleasant. The room was comfortable, and everything was well-maintained. Overall, a great place to stay in Edinburgh, and I’d happily return.

The only minor issue was the absence of a window with a view, so I’d recommend checking the room description carefully before booking. In fairness, this was mentioned in the listing – I just didn’t pay attention to it!

The location is stunning, no doubt about it. The view from the room is absolutely breathtaking. The hotel also has a very lovely interior—so cozy and authentic. The staff is kind and always smiling. All in all, the hotel is really nice, but it’s definitely not worth more than €800, even if it’s located on the main street.

The room was freezing, especially in the bathroom—it felt like a dungeon in there. The shower either ran ice-cold water or boiling hot, nothing in between. Whoever designed the bathroom must’ve been a genius architect because the toilet couldn’t flush properly since the flush button was half-covered by tiles. 😅 The hotel has old single-pane windows, so apart from the awful cold, the noise from the street was also quite noticeable because nothing was sealed properly. But that’s to be expected when staying on the main street. The breakfast selection was very limited—I really missed having fresh veggies. On the bright side, the coffee from the thermos was surprisingly great—kind of old-school, but it tasted really good!

The location is perfect. Conveniently close to touristic attractions, so that we entered hotel for short resting periods and get out for sightseeing again. Recommended especially for short stays cuz its location is a time saver. The bed is really comfortable and the bathroom was clean and new. Our stay/experience was in general satisfying. The only warning for guests would be the age of the building, doors, furnitures are quite old(but not broken just old) sometimes we were hearing the footsteps of the guests from the above room ( but as we were tired as hell it didnt affect our sleep quality )

Bedroom was. Clean and spacious . Beds were comfortable and towels good. Reception Staff were helpful and friendly . They were able to store luggage for us . Public rooms were clean and comfortable with good views over Princes Street

The shower in our room was over the bath which was very high and difficult for two pensioners to get in and out . Breakfast fried food was warm but could have been better .it had obviously been out for quite awhile. Difficult to carry luggage as a lot of stairs but there was a bell for someone to come and help
