One of the best things about the hotel was how close it was Haymarket, the Edinburgh tram stop and parking locations in the city - it was very easy to find the place. Our room was really large and had lots of amenities such as coffee, robes, slippers and the four poster bed was a nice touch that elevated the stay. We checked out a little later than what was advertised but were assured this was no problem. While the room is old, you can tell that the bathroom has been newly renovated.

It is advertised that each room is individually decorated but honestly I was a little disappointed with the one we were allocated. Although this may be a matter of personal taste I felt like for the price I paid (we deliberately upgraded our room as our trip was a celebration) and the examples shown on the website I guess I just expected a little more. The bed (although gorgeous) was pretty creaky and the walls were pretty thin. I know there's not much that can be done about this as part of the Hotel's charm is that it is an old town-house, but just something to keep in mind if you want privacy.

The hotel was very nice! I was traveling alone and had picked one of the less expensive cozy rooms and it was perfect for me! It was a very good price that I paid for the week I stayed and I have only wonderful things to say about The Haymarket Hotel! The people at the front desk and restaurant were so friendly and helpful. They even had the night porter come and knock on my door at 4 am because I was worried I wouldn't wake up for the airport! They said it was no problem and just went above and beyond for me. It is also located on a quaint and quiet cobblestone street that is lovely!

My room was on the very top floor and it was exhausting after a full day of walking getting up 5 flights of stairs. It's not really a complaint, just that people should know to request a lower room if they have mobility issues.

The lady that checked me in was wonderful, very welcoming and gave me some great tips on finding places around the area. The room was lovely and clean, great location

The window in the bedroom didn't lock, I was on the ground floor so was a little nervous about this. I also felt like I heard slamming doors constantly. Not sure if it was from the main entrance or people's rooms but if a door closed you heard it very loudly

The staff were superb. A warm welcome and they were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Good breakfast available even if a little on the pricey side. A great location - quiet but with excellent tram and bus services.

Single room very small, ditto the bed, but as I was out and about most of the time, it was fine.

The hotel is obviously not like any chain hotels and has a unique perspective. It has a great location with 10-15 min travel time to old town by tram, which operates every 10 min during the day. There also plenty of busses available right behind the corner. You can easily travel to the city center, to Leith (e.g. distilleries, HMY Britannia) and to the west city (e.g. zoo) from the same public transport stop. The location itself is a charming and quiet place with rooms located in several houses. It has a great breakfast with continental option and cooked meals, which are being served quickly and taste good. It has a bar with very little people inside which might be a plus for someone looking for a place to rest. The staff is exceptional, polite and friendly.

The rooms are not soundproof, I could hear my neighbours talking. The gap under the room door made everything crystal clear. The room photos were taken of several different rooms (located at different floors and different buildings) and they did not look alike at all, which made a false impression on me. The provided amenities include "Tea/Coffee maker" which was just a kettle and teabags+Nescafe in my case. The shower head was broken and worked only in one mode which resulted in excessive water usage. Teacups remained dirty and sticky after cleaning (only once, but that was enough).

Traditional hotel in a great location. Good transport links for the city centre and outer parts of Edinburgh. The breakfast offer was wonderful, particularly the Scottish breakfast! Our room was on the second floor with plenty of room. Very quiet at night.

lovely old fashioned hotel. Great location 2 minutes from Haymarket Station and the tram into Town. Staff helped us with a heavy suitcase and got us into the room slightly earlier

No Lift in the house we were in.

This old Victorian house is beautiful, we love old character buildings so this was amazing for us. Full of history! Friendly staff, our room was cleaned every day and tea and coffee were replenished every day, a lovely large room. Easy access into the centre of Edinburgh walking and public transport. There are lovely little coffee shops across the road and other shops too. We will come back here as it is an ideal location. Edinburgh is a beautiful place.

Sadly the one thing that did spoil it was the people in the room above us, they were walking up and down in their room from 12am till early morning, luckily we were tired most of the time so we did manage to get some sleep. Also nothing too major but our kettle did not switch off on its own, we will say something to the staff.

Lovely large room with high ceilings, beautifully decorated, facing the street. Lots of space to spread out and be comfortable. En suite was beautiful, very modern. Location is really great, just feet from tram and bus stops and also the train. You can walk to central Edinburgh in under 15 minutes. Dean Village is very close and lovely to stroll through. Heating in room is perfect, hot water was plentiful. Also about parking: there is abundant street parking about 1/4 mile to the west in Wester Coates, which the desk clerk astutely referred me to. From 5:30 pm to 8:30 am, it is free and easily managed. Otherwise, one must pay (about 4 GBP per hour!).

Even though the room faced the side street (Coates Gardens), there was intermittent car traffic going past all through the night, and because of the cobblestone paving, made a fair bit of noise.

The rooms of this hotel are located in several Victorian era terrace houses, which is a nice change from a modern concrete building. The hotel is in a very convenient location less than 5 minutes walk from the train station. There are trams and buses that pass by frequently. Edinburgh castle is only 30 minutes walk away. Michael, the son of the owner, was very friendly and carried my suitcase along the road and up the stairs to my room. I booked a single room which was quite small, but typical of Victorian buildings had a very high ceiling. The furniture looked rather tired, but there was a small table/desk under the window. There were USB charging sockets next to the table, which was a surprise considering the age of the building! Even though the bathroom was small the shower was very good with good temperature and water control. The bed was a bit "creaky." Even though the room and furnishing were quite old, I think the owners got the important things right. The high ceiling, tired furniture and creaky bed were actually part of the charm of this Victorian building, although it might not suit everybody. I believe these buildings are "Listed" so there is a limitation on how much modifications can be made to the structure. For instance there are no lifts. If you like a hotel with character, in a good location and don't expect "all mod-cons!" The Haymarket Hotel might be worth checking out.

No lift, small room, tired furniture, creaky bed, but for me this was balanced by the charm of staying in a Victorian building. The good shower, desk, USB charging and convenient location made me forget the other shortcomings!
