BREAKFAST GOOD .ROOM FACILITIES AND A LA CARTE RESTAURANT

FINDING OUT ON OUR LAST DAY THAT THE HOTEL HAD BEEN VISITED BY THE COUNCIL HYGIENE AND GRADED AS A 1 STAR AND NEEDS TO IMPROVE. IF I HAD REALISED THIS EARLIER IN OUR STAY I WOULD HAVE MOVED BUT THIS WOULD HAVE COME AT A HEFTY COST TO ME.

The location and internal space is truly wonderful. Our sea view room with balcony was spacious, temporarily had scaffolding outside but such fantastic views and balcony. The room and spacious bathroom were a little tired. The hotel has fantastic space downstairs but luxurious dining and bar areas not being used in favour of far simpler areas. The reception staff were friendly and very efficient. The bar staff ladies need a little training and experience I believe.

The outside of the building needs restoration. Cooked food including breakfast is limited.

Location absolutely fantastic. Perfect sea view to wake up to every morning, comfy beds all round too. Plenty of places to eat and drink within decent walking distance. Grand looking hotel with impressive public spaces as per the pictures . We used and enjoyed the nice size warm indoor pool and hot tub etc which we all loved. Staff were polite friendly and helpful. Wish we'd been able to stay longer.

The only thing to fault ,and it is being picky is the outer walls in one side of the building could do with a repaint but I realise a big grand hotel like this must take constant attention and it didn't detract from our stay at all.

The hotel was very good, the location superb with sea views from our bedroom and the breakfast room. Breakfast food was very good, Dinner in the dining room was OK but the menu was quite small so you wouldn't want to eat in every night if you were staying for more than a couple of days. All the staff were very cheerful and helpful, we would definitely stay there again.

The hotel had a problem with the lift, I understand that they are waiting for parts to repair it. They did advise us of the problem after we had booked but when I asked for a room on the 1st floor because of our age they were very obliging.

It is a beautiful 4* star hotel for an amazing and comfortable stay. Stunning sea views. Super comfortable bed and amazing shower and bath with plenty of hot water. Delicious breakfast and we had dinner in the hotel ( which we came back for as a non guest as the ambience and hotel is so lovely). It is charming and does not feel out of date - this is part of the charm. Leave new hotels for new hotels this is 125 years old. It needs to reflect this and keep its unique atmosphere. We loved everything. They also have a laundry service which was fantastic.

There is nothing to not like The only thing which maybe needs doing is cleaning the moss on the outside of the building- but that only adds to the charm and makes it so special when the sun is out looking at the sea so it’s not really a bad thing.

I loved that the staff were attentive.. from reception, cleaning, bar and restaurant.. they all provided a first class service. For which I am very grateful. The balcony suit was great, as we're the treatments. Also the restaurant dealt with my allergy with such professionalism and ease, I had loads of options to choose from and elsewhere i normally only have one choice (if that). They were so careful with my allergy, which I really appreciate and all cooked in the kitchen at the end of the restaurant- great to be so confident in your practice that customers can see just how they work - very professional! Overall, a really good find to be treated with care and attention.

It would have been nice to have the facilities explained at check in or a clearer information pack in the room. We had to find out by wandering and only found the outdoor pool on our last day. The fan in our first room 127 needs to be quieter - but that is a minor niggle. The windows showcasing the sea view at all levels could have been cleaned better, as could the balcony- but I understand this is tricky to achieve. In the breakfast room, the staff were great and the food lovely. Just a few tired chairs need to be taken out of action to ensure that the experience remains special. This is honestly just constructive criticism, we had a great stay and are grateful for the staff members that really enhanced our experience.

Location brilliant & friendly staff with delicious breakfast . Lovely to see staff in the dining area that we have seen in previous years. Makes you think it must be a nice place to work if people stay for years. Safe car park which was free.

We paid for a room with a harbour view & asked for a room as high as possible. We were placed on 2nd floor not third floor .. which we could not see any of the boats or any of the harbour … we could see the beaches behind it though & had a balcony (over the back car park) which was nice however. Comfortable bed.. tv was not working but they offered to try to fix it. We didn’t bother as spent a lot of time out walking.

Perfect location with beautiful views. We had a twin room that had great sea views. Beds were comfy and clean. The cleaning staff were very lovely. Good cooked breakfast available until 10.30

Several times our key stopped working so we have to keep going back for another one. Also we sat outside in the hotel bar restaurant for a few hours and all of the tables were covered in glasses/plates not cleared for hours so the seagulls kept coming down on them. We were the only customers left having lunch so not sure why there was a delay. Not a big deal but make it hard to keep the seagulls away from us!

The staff were helpful and polite. The spa facilities were decent for the money - clean, warm indoor pool and jacuzzi. The views from every side of the hotel were amazing. The breakfast was decent with a good speed of service. The option to park early on checkin day, and after checkout, was very handy. The location gave a good balance between proximity to town and some quieter, less built up areas. Dinner at the restaurant was all right, not the best food in town, but decent value for money. The room cleaning service was good - carpet hoovered every day and replacement water etc.

The lift was out of service multiple times each day, and the unplanned walk up to the third floor wasn't much fun after trekking back up the hill to the hotel! The main stairwell in particular was uncomfortably warm in the heat. The shower in our room did not have very good pressure, but was workable.

Room excellent, superb sea views even if you just have a harbour room. The breakfast is the best, most ginormous buffet plus full English or other choices such as salmon and kippers for a supplement. The hotel is actually beautiful art deco decor, a real pleasure to stay there.

I wish the cost of the spa (£10 per person) was in the room rate. It was free the last time we were there (October 2024). However, when you get in that hot tub with the sea views, it is worthwhile As an aging surfer, I also wish they had a specific place on the premises for drying wetsuits instead of hung over the bath (which they didn't seem to mind)
