All the staff (and the owner) were super friendly and helpful - but be aware that, when there is nobody in Reception, the call button is hiding on the wall in the entrance passage, round the corner from the Reception desk. The food was to die for! Dinner - not cheap, but very reasonably priced, given the quality - was delicious, with tastes I've never experienced before. Their chef is evidently a genius! Breakfast (included in the price I paid) was very generous, including several rashers of bacon, half of a really good, meaty tomato (none of your watery balls with a thin layer of flesh!), and a sausage that was clearly a premium local product. The plate was hardly big enough to hold everything! The bed was comfortable, the room spacious and warm. Unfortunately, the pressure in the shower was rather low, and the temperature control on the shower could hardly be moved at all. Also, the toilet was badly placed so that, in leaning forward to wipe, one's head pushes against the heated towel rail. These drawbacks would make me want to give only four and a half stars, but that's not possible, and my stay overall was so pleasant and enjoyable that I'm giving five out of five - it would be unfair to reduce it to four. I'll certainly return for the wonderful food and service, and I would be happy to stay overnight again as well.
As I've said above, the water pressure in the shower was disappointingly low, although it was enough to serve its purpose. Again, as I said above, the temperature control on the shower was impossible to move more than a small fraction. The owner explained that they specialise in functions - weddings and such like - and I would be wary about staying for a weekend, in case of noisy partying in the large marquee just across the garden from the bedroom window. There was no function on when I stayed, so no problem, but I felt a sense of unease because of the possibility.

This is a quiet rural hotel which we could see would be perfect for a wedding. It was our Anniversary and we were given a room upgrade on arrival. We don’t mind busy hotels but this one had very few residents and we enjoyed the relaxed calmness this generated. Dinner and breakfast were lovely.
I rarely sleep well on the first night of a hotel stay, and this was no exception. However the room was very comfortable so no complaints.

The location was great - convenient for Reading, but out in the countryside - and the gardens were lovely, even in the drab, grey weather of a British summer. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent - Cumberland sausages, mash and mixed greens followed by chocolate mousse with a raspberry coulis and a little ball of ice cream.
The bed was a bit soft for my liking. The bathroom was a little tired. There was no soap for use in the sink. But these were minor faults in an otherwise splendid stay.

All staff very friendly. Excellent food and all dietry requirements met without fuss for my partner who is both Gluten Intolerant and Dairy Intolerant. We were in Room 7. We highlighted a couple of issues with the bathroom that we had noticed and were told that the Bathroom is already planned for a re-fit in March 2024.
The weather but clearly none of us have any control over that.

The breakfast was a. Standard British Breakfast but the food was cooked well. Also available was breakfast bar with cereals, milk and fruit juices .
There lacked shower gel in the shower Cubicle and there was two bottles of Shampoo. One very small tablet of soap at the sink

The staff were friendly and the hotel is lovely but what really makes it a great place to stay is the garden, its a good size and well managed. Great place to sit outside and enjoy a summer evening. The food I had in the in the evening was fantastic.
I had room number one and it has the extractor fan for the kitchen outside the window and the room is quite warm but a fan is provided. Scrambled egg for breakfast was over cooked and rubbery but selection was good.

Beautiful building and grounds Easy access to A33 into Reading and the M4 Friendly owners …excellent communication before arrival. ‘Traditional family run’ hotel …not a corporate hotel.
The shower could have been better but bathrooms are currently being updated.

Friendly communication before arrival, which translated into a personal welcome that checked I had managed to eat in time before I got there. Impressively warm and informed and still utterly professional. Created a great impression. It's a traditional building with lots of quirks. It's super-clean, with a homely welcoming feel to the room. Hot water, clean fluffy towels and a nice warm bed. Utterly what I needed.

I asked for a vegetarian sausage to replace the bacon, sausage and eggs (and maybe black pudding). The one sausage I received instead meant a very small plate of breakfast. Maybe another sausage, or more mushrooms or something.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well presented. It’s has a wonderful garden area.
We only stayed for one night, the staff couldn’t have done more to help and support us with arranging taxi ect, I don’t think there is anything I can feedback to improve.
