We loved the French theme throughout. Each floor featured a French artist. I did wish the restaurant was still open, but coffee and oranges available in the lobby and good breakfasts were steps away at Roxanne’s. In the Junior Suite we had a lovely separate sitting room, where my daughters and I gathered each evening to visit. The bed was very comfortable. Although it had a mind of its own sometimes, the historic elevator added to the charm. The two staff we saw most were friendly and very helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect for us: cable car and three good restaurants steps from our door, and we could walk through Chinatown, Little Italy and Fisherman’s Wharf from there.

The entire building is beautifully decorated. Our room was lovely and staff were helpful. The breakfast was a plus.

Our room was too cool for us and the heating unit was not working. We did call for assistance and were promised that maintenance would take care of it. This did not happen before we left.

We had a generally pleasant stay and appreciated a few key aspects of the hotel. The room setup was perfect for our family—it included one full bed and an individual bed, which allowed us to comfortably stay with our son. The bathroom was impressively spacious and worked well for the three of us. We also really enjoyed the vintage elevator; it had an old-school charm and was actually fun to ride. The location was another highlight—close enough to the city center for convenience, yet still near other interesting neighborhoods worth exploring.

However, the breakfast was a major letdown. The food was cold, the cold cuts appeared old or like they had been sitting out for far too long, and the beverage selection was equally disappointing. We had been looking forward to a good start to the day, but ended up walking out and finding a much better breakfast at a nearby restaurant, despite having already paid for the hotel’s option. This definitely left us with mixed feelings about the overall experience.

I used to come here all of the time because they had a breakfast. I hope they bring Breakfast back.

We love the artistic touches throughout the hotel. The hand paintings on each floor, in the lobby and the restaurant. The bed was comfortable, the pillows soft, the shower was easy to use with plenty of hot water.

The eggs and the bacon served at breakfast were stone cold! Upon inspection, it was discovered that the hot tray was not turned on! Both days the attendant seemed oblivious to the process of keeping the food hot. The staff at the front desk were all pleasant but not particularly oriented to customer service. There never seemed like there was an experienced person on site and in charge.

The hotel is located near Union Square but the surrounding area is quiet. The hotel has a really lovely aesthetic in all the different floors and rooms. The rooms themselves are spacious, cozy and well furnished. The bathroom was lovely with ample space, great light and piping hot water. The staff is very kind and welcoming. The breakfast was abundant.

The hotel does smell a little old. The elevator needs to be handled properly or it will get stuck. There are several hills in this area. Not the hotel's fault but just a warning - my elderly father was having issues with the walks.

The hotel is a small, eccentric boutique hotel, with a quaint, old-fashioned style elevator. It is situated a few streets higher up from Union Square so be prepared for a steep climb up from Market. All said it is readily accessible from the BART with a carry-on. The room and bathroom were great for a long weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful which always helps.

The breakfast is a bit sparse and in the dungeon-like basement which is done out like a Disney Joan of Arc auberge. and parts of the decor are looking a bit tired. But post-COVID it is hard for these small hotels to survive.

Very conveniently located, loved the older style building and boutique hotel. Staff was attentive and friendly, no issues with the elevator for us. Restaurants, stores, and coffee shops within short walking distance. Included breakfast was decent (eggs/potatoes/bacon with juices/milk/coffee). Beds were comfortable, room was clean, walls weren’t thin or anything, windows actually open which was very nice. Parking was $40/night across the street. Also just a really cool ambiance to the place!

Hallways have a certain aged aroma (no odd smells in the room, and it’s an older building so it’s kind of expected), no fridge or microwave might be a dealbreaker for some.

Staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was complimentary which was a lovely surprise and was very tasty- Eggs, Bacon, potatoes etc. The chef was really friendly. Location was ideal just off union square. The room was small , but very clean and serviced each day. The shower was good too. I would stay here again but wouldn't pay extra for a deluxe

We booked a deluxe queen. The room we got I feel was a standard room. The receptionist said it was a deluxe and showed me the booking but the pictures online were very deceiving and looked nothing like the room we got. Pictures online that matched our room were those of a standard room.

The staff was super friendly and very nice. The welcome message they sent with suggestions on how to get there saved me a lot of money by using BART (which I highly recommend)

There was a problem with WiFi for 2 days with lousy signal and sometimes no internet at all, the staff did mention it was temporary and by the third day this was solved (and I know it’s not their fault) however, coming from another country sometimes all you have available is WiFi to check maps, etc. So I did suffer a bit there, then again, like I mentioned they said it was temporary and was eventually fixed
