Great beds, great location, friendly staff, cozy rooms. The hotel in general has this feel-at-home atmosphere- really lovely. I’d definitely stay here again.

Shared bathrooms are very clean but what’s a bit annoying is the fact that the toilet and shower are in the same room so when you have someone else taking like 45 minutes showering and getting ready in the morning, you have to wait forever to go to the toilet.

The room was very clean. My room was in the back of the building and it was very quiet (considering it's in the middle of the city). The staff was friendly. You can easily get tea or coffee all day or night in the lobby. And it's a great location in a safe area, with a grocery store just a block away. I would have given this place all 10s if it weren't for the bathtub issue.

Taking a shower is a life-threatening task. The bathtub is curved on the bottom rather than flat (like all modern American tubs) and is extremely slippery. The danger could be easily reduced by providing a rubber mat, but they don't. Note to future customers: Ask the front desk for an extra towel, and use the extra towel as a mat inside the tub - it might save you from serious injury or death.

Great location. Cute old school room with a compact but very comfortable bed. We had a shower in the room which was nice (and not explicitly mentioned when we booked). The hotel has a great authentic vibe with an original metal elevator. Breakfast in the sister hotel was also good quality with fresh waffles and fruits, eggs and bacon or sausages, ...

We knew the bathroom would be shared and this was not actually an issue. Only the last night when the hotel was fully booked this was less ideal. As the shower and toilet are in one room there was a moment when we had to wait quite a while to go to the bathroom when on each floor someone was showering or using the bathroom. As I said, we knew that we would share so it was just a small inconvenience.

Our room was lovely, a king with bathroom. I am not sure about temperature regulating but we were very cold and then realized the windows were open. The breakfast at the sister hotel down the street was sufficient though it seemed that only one person was working...clearing tables, bringing out additional food, dishes, etc. so there was a wait for each. No problems, just a remark. I was worried about what the hotel would be like but it was charming because of its antique elevator, no two rooms alike, etc. the young people working the desk were very accommodating by storing our luggage until checkin time and good at checkout.

First impression is very important. That being said, I would suggest washing and polishing the entry steps so new guests get a better feeling how clean the inside might be!

We liked it! It’s cute, charming, and provides a fun experience of living in a true Edwardian-style home - you’ll feel like you’re in the early 1900s SF. Location is convenient and walkable (if you don’t mind some inclines). Friendly staff.

We went to breakfast at the sister hotel around 9am, and it was a bit messy. It was hard to find a clean, available table (the only tables without people had dirty dishes from previous guests) and we had to ask for clean plates and food (trays were empty). The food was generally good, so perhaps you’ll have a better experience if you go on the earlier side.

The location is absolutely great next to Chinatown and the city center with a lot of restaurants, shops and cafes etc nearby. Old building but good maintained with a nice old flair, you can really feel that it is over 100 years old. The paid parking is across the street, I used valet for 3 days and booking a good rate via app in advance. Coffe and hot chocolate for free in the lobby also a nice thing.

Breakfast is served in the hotel nearby and the whole arrangement definitely needs improvement. Out of 3 times only once it was okay, both other it was so crowded that we had to wait standing near the tables... Once we got the free one I had to clean it and bring the dishes away since the service staff was not around. The food ran out and was not topped up on time, so it was pretty messy. I would book it without breakfast next time not to spoil the whole experience.

Breakfast at the sister hotel was disappointing and poor quality. Would have much preferred to have breakfast at the Golden Gate Hotel with Skittles the cat as previous guests could before they changed the system. The ceiling light on the fan in our room kept turning on randomly in the night, and sometimes turned straight back on again if we tried to turn it off with the remote control.

Central location, close to Union Square and the cable car stop. For those who enjoy walking, you can easily reach Chinatown, Little Italy, and even the Pier 39 area (about an hour's walk). There are various restaurants and a supermarket around the hotel. Breakfast is served in the hotel next door, with eggs and bacon, crispbread, bagels and jam, coffee, and juices. Very nice atmosphere and plenty of food. The staff was friendly and ready to help, really appreciated their suggestions and help! Shout out to the lovely hotel cat who welcomes you on arrival.

So comfy and loved the relaxed homely feel, not at all clinical like some hotels can be. The complimentary breakfast was a bonus too. We had an en-suite room with was lovely and clean and very cosy. Loved meeting Skittles the cat too. Location was excellent! Easy to get around and plenty of good places to eat nearby.

As it’s an older property, it was expected but annoying not having sockets right next to the bed to charge phones etc. Also missed not having a fridge in the room. But these are really minor things.
