My stay here was made unforgettable by the outstanding hospitality - particularly from the young gentleman working my check-in shift. He went far beyond standard service when he helped me locate the emergency button in my rental car during chaotic downtown traffic! This level of attentive care is rare and deeply appreciated. What made my stay exceptional: ✅ Above-and-beyond staff - The check-in associate's willingness to assist with my rental car issue in heavy traffic was extraordinary ✅ Brilliant parking solution - Their valet parking system across the street eliminated all parking stress in crowded SF ✅ Prime downtown location - Perfectly positioned for exploring the city without transportation headaches Special recognition: A huge thank you to the check-in staff member whose name I regrettably didn't get - your patience and problem-solving skills turned a potentially stressful situation into a demonstration of world-class hospitality. Perfect for: • Travelers who value responsive, caring service • Visitors wanting hassle-free parking in downtown SF • Anyone who appreciates staff that genuinely cares about guest experience This hotel has mastered the art of combining practical solutions with genuine warmth. I'll absolutely choose them again for future San Francisco visits and recommend them without reservation to fellow travelers.

When i arrived i was not really sure. I knew it was an old hotel but my idea of "old" was more based of traditional vintage rooms. This is a very basic hotel. After a night i realised why people like this place. Of course there is the the free coffee n pastries and the great location that must people mention but for me the added value is the superb customer service along side the great job the staff do for all customers. George the handy man is a great person. The girls at the front desk always try to provide you with anything you need and the young men that work in the evenings have always a smile when you come back to your room. I saw one of the cleaning ladies cleaning the dust of the skirting boards one morning... they have screens controlling all levels. Its a clean and safe hotel. You can get an interior room (extremely quiet) or external with views to the main road. Talk to the staff, they will accommodate you as much as they can!

The location in Union Square district is very good and the prices charged are very fair. It's an old hotel and has some character. The hotel has a variety of croissants for breakfast every morning and a tea/coffee machine available 24hours a day. The rooms are just big enough and they are comfortable. Some of the staff are particularly helpful. We were able to have an early check-in and when we left our bags were looked after for an afternoon. The hotel had a discounted rate at the car park across the road. Our room was nice and quiet.

They provided a free breakfast of pastries which was delicious e.g. croissants and muffins. There was all tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The hotel had a water dispenser for fresh filtered water which was so helpful, as well as an ice dispenser. This was invaluable as it saved us from having to buy bottled water (very expensive in San Fran!!). Staff were so lovely and accommodating and allowed us to store our ice packs in the freezer overnight so that they could freeze. Good location, very central San Fran. Excellent value hotel compared to others in the same location. We were also given a room with a lot of natural daylight and sun which was nice.
Unión Square can be a but of a scary location but that isn’t anything to do with the hotel. Didn’t realise we had to request a fridge in advance if we wanted one in our room.

Location was good!!! Close to cable car and a few block away from subway and BART. Very close to Union Square which is the heart of SF City. Free coffee and tea 24 hours a day!!! And in the morning the hot drinks and muffins/pastries were excellent. There is a micro in the eating area that can be used 24 hours a day. And a mini refrig can be be provided on request. Lots of good restaurants in the area. Theater area is very close by, maybe 5 min walk to nearest theater.
A little bit of a climb up one hill/block to get to the street that the hotel is on.

The location was incredible, in the heart of the city. The amenities are limited, but if you're looking to explore San Francisco, it's a safe, comfortable room with pastries to start the day. Hey the Metro+Cable Car pass for the length of your stay as you might be tired by day's end and there's a cable car stop just down the street.
The one thing we needed to find ourselves was a tissue box. Aside from that, the hotel was basic but clean, classic downtown, and easy to navigate the city from here.

Great location, a few metres from the cable cars. Free tea, coffee and water 24/7, even free pastries every morning. It maybe dated but perfectly functional. Would stay again

The Grant Hotel is a great value in the heart of SF and you can use it as a home base to visit anywhere in the city. We walked to the piers and then you can ride-share to further locations. The property is old like most of the buildings in the area but it is decently maintained. Security seems good with high resolution cameras everywhere. The bathrooms are very large for the smallish rooms which allows two people to use at once. We didn't attend the continental breakfast but it looked good.
At first glance the property looks pretty old with some bubbling or peeling paint. The elevator will give you pause with all the noises it makes. We just decided to treat the building as a "walk-up." You'll have to pay for parking but the garage is directly across the street and there is a discount for guests. (Fee was $35 per 24 hours at the time of this review in 12/24)

Small breakfast like muffins, cake and croissants available as well as coffee, tea and water available. Good to start the sightseeing day after have a little breakfast. Very central, close to Union Square and China Town. Cable car tram in 1min walk. Valet parking on other side of street. Before you get your car, don't forget to pay the parking at the hotel. There you get "I paid" stickers on your parking ticket. That stickers show the parking man that you have paid and you get your car. Would stay there again, no doubt.
Be aware that most of the rooms don't have a nice view from window, because houses are build close to each other. When you want a street view, take care when booking. We didn't spend much time in the room because were on a sightseeing trip, so it did not bother us.

They had pastries out everyday from 7-10am and there were many options to choose from. The room was clean and big, hot water worked fast and well. Had a big window for sunlight. Friendly staff, cleaning room service came often even though we prefer to not have room service during our stay, but good they still offered often.
There really isn’t much to complain about, the only thing I’d say is that the bed was 2 beds pushed together. Still comfy but they did separate a bit through the night.
