The staff was super nice. We got there early, but they let us in right away since the room was ready. Everything was clean and smelled good. The room was small, but we knew that, and it was perfect for showering and sleeping for a couple of nights.

During our visit, which coincided with a huge event, the price was higher than usual, though it remained more affordable than many other options within the city. The air conditioning, while noisy, was essential in the windowless room, even throughout the night, which presented a minor challenge in getting to sleep, as there was no option to adjust the airflow, only the temperature. While not a major issue, I must admit I would have expected something a little to customisable.

I was upgraded because the elevator was broken and I really appreciated the suite. Very comfortable room. Very clean and fresh. Loved the bed and bedding. Liked the ability to cast from my phone to the big screen.

Sometimes casting cut out. Although I was able to watch a whole movie at night, I wasn't able to get it to work again the next day. Controlling most of the lights via a touchpad seemed great but took much longer than a switch... technology in search of a problem to solve that didn't need solving. Parking is on the street and you need to pay for it, or pay for a 24 hour garage nearby.

The room was well equipped for the value price. It was small and did not have a window, but I knew that when I booked. I appreciated the backlit window shade to at least give the feeling of natural light. This was a one-night solo stay, so I didn't need anything else. With a partner or friend, my room would have been a tight fit, but I knew this when I booked! Staff was very friendly; I arrived WAY before check-in time, but they held my bag and gave me many recommendations of activities. Very near beautiful St. Paul's square with many coffee, restaurants and bar options. Many coupons available as guests of the hotel and I was able to walk to/from the train station (about 15 minutes for me).

The automated room link didn't quite work. I'm not sure if this is a connection issue, but even connected to the hotel's wifi, I wasn't able to utilize the lift access, door key or lights from my phone. Thankfully, a manual key card was also provided and buttons were available in the room for lights.

Location was perfect for us as we were meeting with friends in the jewellery quarter in the evening, the room was actually larger than we thought it would be, in terms of the small hallway to the bed, room was clean and tidy and overall a nice stay

It’s a shame that you have to pay additional for hot drink facilities downstairs, it would be a plus if this was complimentary especially for the price paid, there is no hotel breakfast and the thermostat in the room is a bit funny to use, it doesn’t display numbers instead only an up and down button for temperature with 5 levels, I found myself having to turn it up or down at various points in the night

The hotel is a lovely place to stay if you have a weekend in Birmingham. The location is fantastic with lovely restaurants and cafés nearby. The pizza restaurant opposite is fantastic as well as a lovely Indian round the corner in an English pub. In the morning we were able to just cross over the road to a lovely café which had delicious pastries. It’s definitely a great area in Birmingham. We stayed in an apartment room. There was a large bed and a relatively nice size bathroom with a shower. In the living space, there was a TV sofa and a kitchenette. Not much of a kitchen, just a microwave and a coffee machine a sink and some plates and cutlery. I would recommend getting the apartment room as it gave us so much more space. We also got an extra bedroom as there was a couple of us, but the apartment room was fabulous to hang out in rather than just being in a bedroom.

We loved the whole look and feel of the hotel and rooms, it was simple yet felt modern and luxurious. The bedding was really comfortable and the bathroom, while a bit small, was cozy and worked well. We felt it was real value for money, compared to most places in this price range.

The tablet screen next to our bed wouldn't turn off, so we had a bright blue light all night, which did affect our sleep in the night. I messaged reception on WhatsApp and they offered to send someone to check it out, but my daughter was already asleep so I opted out. Also, while it feels cool and edgy to have a tablet to operate all the room functions, I would be happy with some actual light switches.

We were given an upgrade to the apartment room. Dry nice surprise. Appreciate. Much bigger than the average room in the hotel. With basically a mini kitchen, sink, fridge and coffee machine. Sofa, little dinner table and two decent sized smart TVs one in the bedroom on the wall and the other in the living room on the wall, so we could watch Netflix and YouTube. The shower rooms pretty comfortable I liked the sliding glass door. Good mirror lighting lol.

Only thing we didn’t find comfortable were the pillows to sleep on, they could have been a lot softer and fluffier. Didn’t help me to have the best of sleeps if I’m honest. To lean on in bed fine but sleep on. No. The bed was pretty comfortable.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the property as I had stayed in a similar (although different chain) hotel before and wasn’t impressed. However I really thought Bloc hotel was great and especially for the cost. At check in the staff were very friendly, explained the Smart Control on my phone and how there was a chat function to reach reception at all times. The room was spotless, bed and pillows were really comfy and although it was small I knew beforehand what I had booked and I expected this, and we were only staying for one night anyway. Again, the bathroom was very small but the shower was really good. Honestly couldn’t fault the hotel, there was plenty nearby if needed and you could even rent an umbrella for £2 in reception if it was raining.

I don’t have any complaints about the hotel

I travel a lot for work and the previous night stayed in a horrible air bnb. So happy to come to the Bloc as I know what to expect here. Lovely cosy room, very quiet and peaceful location. I slept so well! Staff responded quickly to my enquiries.

I've stayed in a few Blocs and it is a shame that you don't get tea and coffee in your room, and is the only downfall. Nobody likes going to reception in their PJ's to get a morning cuppa. The app that controls the room also didn't really load even when connected to WiFi. Still controllable by the buttons though.

Everything is operated by your phone, lifts, opening doors, turning on lights etc, which takes a little getting used to but good once you get it. But there are staff on hand to help. It's clean, perfectly located for accessing a number of places. I went to an event at Jam House and a Hockey social which were all within a short walk. I also walked into city centre. I had the standard room, which was perfect for one person, it would have been cosy but doable for 2 people. Full length mirror, toiletries and towels. large bed and room to store a small bag. Good option on TV. Complimentary water in room. Nice lobby, with chargeable drinks machine. Luggage storage available at no charge.

Not a massive dislike just an fyi. My room didn't have a window, but that was the room I selected as it was cheaper and I wasn't going to be in it long. But it can feel a bit dark if you are a fan of natural light. However the design gives the illusion of a window, with the blind down, which was a nice touch. Bathroom is a wet room (in the room I was in) ladies, something to consider if sharing as the mirrors all steam up and that is where the better lighting.
