The hostel was great for what we needed it for- a 1 night stay whilst travelling along the great ocean road. We arrived in the evening and left early in the morning so weren’t there for long but it had everything we needed and I couldn’t fault it in anyway. The rooms and bathroom were clean, despite not booking a female only dorm the owner split it so it was only females in our room which was nice and I believe should be done in more hostels. The kitchen was suitable and a cute little common area and back garden which you’d be able to use if you stayed longer than 1 night. Highly recommend for any Great Ocean Road adventures!!

I loved my stay at Apollo Bay Backpackers. The owner was very friendly and had great suggestions for things to do and places to eat in Apollo Bay. He even joined us for a beer in the common area one night. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfy. The washrooms are very clean and modern. The kitchen facilities are maintained and well-stocked, and I like that there is a BBQ on site as well. Really fantastic hostel in a quiet location.

There is only one electrical outlet in some of the hostel rooms.

Super convenient - just a short 5 min walk to the beach/main street with shops/places to eat. Small common area with some seating and tables, plus kitchen appliances. Good outside area with a BBQ and picnic table, showers were warm which is always good. The person on reception was very helpful and friendly

I had amazing 4 nights at Apollo Bay! The very freindly owner (Quinn) offers Seal Tours and Surfing, too. The location offers all you need as a backpacker: storage and fridge for your food and all amenities to prepare your meal. There is/was even a Koala sleeping on a tree next to the hostel.

The staff and owner were very social and helpfull. I would get advice on were to hike and help with other questions. The hostel was very clean and the kitchen was nice, with an oven. The hostel has a really homie feel.

Most of the people only stayed here for one night and came late in the evening, so you could not meet other backpackers during the day. I was sad I couldn't stay longterm in this hostel, but I understand that that is a rule.

The staff were very friendly, and even though the establishment was quite old and somewhat dated, it was very clean. The staff were personable and helpful.

We stayed for just one night as a stop along the Great Ocean Road, but I loved the vibe and wished we could have stayed longer. The hostel is small, very clean, and well-maintained, with a cozy, familiar atmosphere. The owner was welcoming and happy to share tips for our route.

The facilities were very nice, and the atmosphere was welcoming. The staff and the owner were lovely to chat to, and very helpful with tips and recommendations. We only stayed one night, so can't give an extensive review on a longer term stay. However, the one night we were there was very comfortable, and we had a very pleasant time!

Quinn, the owner, is a very helpful and laid back guy. He helped explain my many queries about the area to the best of his abilities. The hostel itself is a cosy and clean establishment, where you can easily mingle with other backpackers in the morning and afternoon. The rooms had lockers if you wished to use them. It also has free parking to the side, and if you are low on funds or can't find anywhere else to stay, Quinn also allows you to camp outside (or in your car) for a reduced rate. Plus you may also spot koalas in the trees right outside!

The rooms were rather small for how many beds they had inside of them, and there were usually only four lockers compared to five or six beds, depending on the room. It can also get very hot and humid at night as the rooms have no air conditioning (which is understandable considering that Apollo Bay isn't exactly the warmest place in Australia) but a dehumidifier would have been ideal. Lastly, the place could use a fresh coat of paint and some new furniture, but that is more of a long-term improvement.

Great value, exactly what you want from a backpackers hostel. Beds were fine, everything was clean, and the kitchen was well equipped. Staff were very friendly and had good tips for things to do and see.
