The perfect hotel for a Christmas trip to Cologne. The location was ideal, rooms very quiet and comfortable, breakfast delicious! But it’s the staff that truly make this place 10/10 - so friendly, welcoming and helpful; they really go above and beyond! Thank you Andy, Kai, Emine, Francisco & all at Stern am Rathaus for a wonderful stay!

I had the most wonderful stay at Stern am Rathaus in Cologne. From the moment I arrived, the owners were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, making me feel right at home. Even though I checked in late, the process was seamless, and throughout my stay they were quick to respond to any questions I had. The room was cozy and the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable—I slept better here than at the nearby 4-star hotel I stayed at earlier, which wasn’t nearly as memorable. Each morning started with a fresh, homemade breakfast buffet, including made-to-order eggs and bacon, which was such a treat. Everything about this hotel felt personal, warm, and thoughtful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and can’t recommend it enough for anyone visiting Cologne.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The room was very clean and well appointed. We were very thankful for the AC as there was a heat wave while we were there. The hotel's location is perfect and even though it is super central, the room was quiet so we got great sleep. Walking distance from the train station and super convenient to reach all parts of Cologne.

The layout of the room was a little awkward - though - extremely efficient and well appointed. My only criticism was that due to the layout, I could not, with our luggage, find a good place to do stretches. This is obviously a tiny inconvenience for what was, all in all, an excellent room and stay.

We were travelling with 3 kids on a business trip. The room was brilliant value as often you need to book 2 hotel rooms to accommodate 3 kids- but this room fitted us all. The room was in the most brilliant location and although a bit of an aging building (which we like) the beds were super comfy and fresh and clean. By far the best was the breakfast! My goodness! Best breakfasts EVER. We travel a lot and have stayed in 100s of hotels and this brekkie was quality, delicious, unique, well thought out- a great start to every day Andy and team were exceptional in every way.

Nothing- shame there is no lift for lugggage but that is no ones fault- good excercise going up the stairs ;)

Everhthing was fantastic, from the location being the perfect base in the centre of the hotel but quiet at the same time, to the staff who were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a great choice and was always fresh and kept topped up. Our room was great, well appointed, spacious, good temperature and you could see the cathedral out of some of them too. Couldn’t fault a thing and would highly recommend. The homemade cookies at reception were a lovely touch too 😀

The location was ideal, right in the center of historical Cologne, quite close to the Cathedral and the Ludwig Museum, which was marvelous. The breakfast at the hotel was scrumptious and impecable. The staff was helpful; courteous and extremely friendly We really felt right at home there and found the stay to be very congenial and relaxing.

There was no elevator in the hotel. Nevertheless. the staff is there to help with the luggage.

The location is excellent, only a short walking distance to the Dom, the Rhine River, and transportation. All staff members were very friendly, professional and courteous. The breakfast was outstanding and exceeded our expectations. We had a rental car and were able to park it in a nearby garage at a reasonable price.

The shower had only a half door so water would spill out, but it didn’t bother us too much. I would rank the property 10 out of 10 and would love to stay again!

Great location in the heart of historic Cologne. The host was fantastic and really looked out for us. One bedroom had nice air conditioning. Tasty breakfast cooked to order. TV worked well.

With the windows open the street is noisy at night. The restaurant next door went late into Friday night. The back bedroom with air conditioning was quiet. If you leave on a very early train on Saturday morning, you may not get hot breakfast.

The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. They were so helpful and with the brightest, most genuine smile on their faces. Thank you to Andy and his team! The breakfast was delicious with some local fare, and the bed was super comfortable.

It would have been nice if there was an elevator (but the stairs were totally fine), and maybe I don't know how to use it, but I find the showers with the half doors don't do a good job at keeping the water inside the shower.

The location of the hotel was great. It was right in the middle of the city. It took 10mins to walk to the shopping centre, 24mins to walk to the street with more restaurants. We literally walked everywhere and even walked to the chocolate museum which was less than an hour’s walk. The staff at the hotel were great, always welcoming, very knowledgeable and had a smile on their faces at all times. The breakfast options were great. The eggs are cooked to your liking and I loved the freshly baked croissants.

The only slight thing I would add is for the tiny round hole in the bathroom sink to be cleaned. The sink itself was clean, just that tiny hole as your eyes immediately go to it whilst on the toilet.
