Hotel was right in the city centre. Trains, trams and buses were right outside the door (free travel for over-65s). Loved the ambience of this 1913 period hotel - it exuded a lovely old-world charm, yet wonderfully maintained. The "Classic" accommodation rooms were simpler in decor, but very comfortable. Excellent breakfast, and the adjoining restaurant provided a nice (not huge) menu selection for those dining in. The 6th floor had a dedicated ironing room, a convenient touch.

Not really a criticism, but in our "Classic" room, the plumbing hardware in the bathroom was showing its age. But everything worked fine. Otherwise, everything else was in great condition.

Very nice room, comfortable bed but pillows were too soft and I got a slight neck sprain. Room is big enough with a small balcony, which one can get out with city view. Breakfast was a good spread but would have preferred fresh juices. Made to order omelette was very nice. Good combination of breads. Excellent location. You can’t simply beat this hotel in terms of location. Access to public transportation is excellent since Astoria M is a major stop, shops and restaurants are all around, Danube is 15mts walk away, so is the Christmas market.

Housekeeping didn’t vacuum the room even once in my 5 days stay. The first day they shoved the dirt right below the wardrobe. There is a cobweb in the corner. The single sofa is dirty and unclean. They didn’t even make the bed properly.

The location. Loved the history of the hotel and the fact that many of the original features remain in the public areas despite wartime issues. This means that the reception area appears rather dark on arrival but opens up into the grand restaurant spaces, which we enjoyed very much. The breakfast buffet was excellent and very well serviced by staff. Loved having a relaxed breakfast with so much choice. Good service at dinner though a limited menu. The lifts to the rooms are super efficient. Our classic room was small but well thought out for a comforatable stay. Loved the bath tub. Our room on the 5th floor faced a quiet street.so no noise issues at night except for the emergency vehicle sirens which are inescapable in Budapest.

The seating in the reception area is very uncomfortable and unattractive . Replacement with something comfortable and brighter is well overdue. The carpet in the room was stained.

Breakfast selection was reasonable. More options would have been great. They had nice Gluten Free cakes in the front cafe. Bathroom floor was heated, so was the bathroom. Very nice.

I had to ask for Gluten free bread and it only came in the form of dinner rolls. I got nice rolls first day and 2nd and 3rd day, they were not the same (not as good) i had to complain to get the nice rolls. Also, no fresh fruit juice / no greek yoghurt - only the cheap yoghurt full of sugar. The coffee machines were a bit old and coffee tasted horrible. They could have given me some Gluten Free cakes ( like the ones in the front cafe ). I only got Rolls.

We upgraded to a suite which was very good indeed. In general the hotel had good services and the personnel, especially the 2 young people on the front desk and the maitre d in the restaurant in the evening were excellent. The hotel does need a bit of a face lift however. The room furniture and decorations were rather old fashioned and the wall paper in the passages needed changing. However the decor downstairs, including that of the restaurant, gave the ground floor a great feeling of atmosphere: please don't touch any of that !!!ª The breakfast was good: our only complaint was that for some reason or other the water for the tea and coffee was always lukewarm

That there was no room service available

We liked the location of this hotel given that it is a stop "ASTORIA" of the 100E Airport Shuttle. It is also a Metro Stop right in front of the hotel and easy to get to from anywhere in the city. It is within walking distance to notable touristy areas and realised on our last day that it is also so close to the famous ruin bar, Szimpla Kert. Another plus point is the buffet breakfast! It was delicious with numerous offerings that can cater to all tastes and preferences.

Noticed that the walls are quite thin and you can hear people going about the other rooms, and talking. We had to consciously whisper in our rooms at times especially when we are up so early getting over jet lag. It is not so much as a bother for us but it is worth mentioning in case.

The hotel seems to have a new and an older section, we were staying in the newer section and were guite happy to be in it. the older section rooms look dated, as expected from such a grand old hotel. The newer sections are very nice in my opinion and we were happy to be staying there. Hotel is in a good location with good access to most of the main visitor attractions.

We had one breakfast and one lunch in the hotel restaurant, not impressed either time. Breakfast is a buffet affair so timing may be a factor but the lunch is not, the food was cold when it was brought out, otherwise it should have been ok.

The hotel has a lovely well preserved reception hall with dark wood characterful decor. Staff are friendly and helpful and our room was tidied up smartly each day. The rooms are a very good size which really helped as we were on a long trip around Europe and bringing quite a lot of luggage. There were all facilities needed in the room too. The location is right next to a subway for metro line 2 and also easy walk to most areas of the old centre, including the food market and the river. All was good.

Very little not to like. If we had to find something - the water pressure in the shower was a little low, but didn’t really effect enjoying the hotel.

Beautiful hotel. Nice big comfortable room (suite). Great location in the centre of town and able to walk to most places easily.

Breakfast foods on the buffet were usually nearly cold. Toasters took about 5 minutes to toast the bread (not a big issue in itself but when you have queues of people maybe replace the toasters). If you dont like noise, the trams rumble past all day and evening. We are used to them, but just be warned, the building 'feels' the trams as they pass.

The room was fabulous, magic, old school, spacious, luminous, warm, the breakfast was delicious with many choices, the location is central and everything is reachable on walking distance. The staff was friendly and I received all I asked. The hotel and the piano bar Astoria breath with elegance and beauty recalling old historical epochs. I will come back in this hotel!

The water in the bath /shower was changing rapidly from hot to cold, which could be considered as health benefit. I waited a bit longer to check in while other guests could check in immediately as they arrived.
