Incredible location to see all of the beauty of Venice, only 200-300 meters from the centre. 30+ minutes to walk from the Santa Lucia train station, which seemed easy but I DO NOT RECOMMEND WALKING, take a water taxi instead to the hotel, unlike me - there are many bridges, stairs and bumpy pathways to carry your luggage across. The hotel was relatively comfortable with a beautiful rooftop terrace and quiet location for being so close to the centre. Beautiful view of surrounding buildings and rooftops outside the window. Good and modern bathroom. Many shops and restaurants nearby. The staff and customer service at this hotel is amazing, they were always kind and so helpful whenever I needed any assistance with my luggage, my room (mainly my door), or any questions that I had. 10/10 customer service.

Unfortunately, a few things. Room smelt a bit musty (but aircon helps) which also comes with an older building, bathroom could've been cleaner (shower in particular), bed is a bit hard for my liking, no power sockets near the bed (and some others didn't work), and the door to the room was extremely difficult to open. I had to ask staff to come help several times because I was struggling to get into my room, but they always generously came to assist. No elevator as well, but the staff helped me carry a bag up and down, which was really appreciated because there are so many stairs (I was on level 3).

The location of HC can’t be rivalled - a few minutes walk from St Mark’s Basilica and the piazza, with great restaurants all around, and easy access to water taxis and water busses. The hotel is quirky, as befits a building clearly retro fitted on more than one occasion. The staircase looks like the famous MC Escher painting, and my sons’ room has a mini-staircase leading to the bathroom. But the room has almost all the mod cons you’d expect and the breakfast is great value. My wife and I stayed here 21 years ago and greatly enjoyed our return trip.

Be aware that the is no lift, and if you have any mobility issues, the stairs will be very challenging indeed.

The hotel staff were honestly the best I have very experienced, they were friendly chatty and supportive with all requests. The hotel's decor was in a traditional style, although very different from what I am used to, making me feel like a proper Venician! The room was really comfortable and the room service was excellent, it was clean and tidy and they gave plenty of amenities. The location was incredible, there were restaurants really close by of good quality and close to St Mark's Square. I would go back, just for the friendliness of the staff alone. I felt really safe by not having to carry a heavy key around with me and having a 24-hour reception.

The biggest problem for me was the water pressure in the room, it had a problem where it would surge during a shower and could sometimes surge with cold water suddenly as a shock. The tap within the bathroom had a similar problem. The room is dated, but I wanted that when I stayed there. As for all Italian hotels, I would introduce a tea and coffee-making facility within the rooms

The staff was amazing, especially the young guy at the register. The Location is amazing. The Boat stations are near and the St. Marcos Square is a quick walk away. The whole stay we didnt hear any noise and nobody was interrupting our peace when we were in the Hotel. The room was extremly clean and the bathroom smelled of cleaning supplies what proves it was propertly cleaned. The bed was comfortable and in the room was warm.

The only thing that might be a problem for some people is that the room is pretty small. But we spent all of our time exploring so we used our room just for sleeping so it wasnt such a problem for us. And at night the room gets a bit cold, but during the day it was really warm and cozy!

Amazing location close to St Marks and super easy access to the waterfront. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were all that you need for a trip to Venice, albeit a little on the small side. The bathrooms are practically brand new and very modern, with a big shower. Air con worked very well, it was hot while we were there.

Only thing that we didn't like were the old school feather pillows, they are always too thin.

Fantastic location for St Marks and surrounding sights. Very easy to get to Grand Canal. Plenty of good restaurants within 2 minute walk. Breakfast was okay but bettered by nearby restaurants for the same price.

Happened to have family room on third floor and, with no lift, the stairs seemed to go on forever after a long day wandering the streets, especially in 30’+ temperatures. Realising you’d left something in the room when you were already outside became less funny each time!

Great location so close to St Marks, restaurants etc but still on a quiet lane- staff were great and room had everything you need - recommend

I liked the human relationship with all the members of the group that the personal of the Castello Hotel have shared with us in particular with me as I'm temporarily disabled and walking with a cane. They help me with my luggage in the way in and the way out. Marino at the reception was subtle, accurate and speak Spanish. Marie-Rose the cleaning lady is a bright sun that brings something very special to the house. I recommend the place. I'il be back God willing.

Excellent location, staff exceptionally helpful. We didn’t have the correct socket adaptors so we were allowed to borrow some from reception. We were also allowed to keep our luggage there after we had checked out as we had a late night flight

The room was very dark and the bathroom was very small but this seems to be typical of properties in Venice.
