The hotel has the wow factor when you enter. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. The breakfast buffet was superb. Only a 10 minute walk to the city centre. Our room was extremely spacious, clean and comfortable. The only reason we did not rate the hotel 10, is that it could do with a little up dating but this did not detract from an excellent stay.

Could do with a little bit of up-dating, such as USB charging points in the room.

The hotel is beautiful. A lovely welcome. The staff are superb. The breakfast is plentiful and has all options. Super facilities. The room was large and very clean. The view from room 814 was beautiful.

The only thing I can say is the rooms are a little tired. A Nespresso machine would be a good addition. There is no smart tv for Netflix etc.

Lovely, clean, excellent location just a stones throw from the city centre. Free parking very handy. Room service all night was very good. Breakfast buffet pricey (20euro a head) but tasty and varied. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

Booking.com said our booking included free spa access, however this only included the pools and gym - did not include sauna or steam room which were an extra €10 per day per person. I thought this was misleading or poorly explained on booking.

The Asian buffet was fantastic!

The indoor pool and jacuzzi were quite cold. We noticed that a towel which was left on a sunbed by someone, stayed there for 2 whole days. Who is responsible to clean everyday? Besides, quite a few machines were out of order in the gym. Not up to standard for a 5 star hotel.

the fact that there is no privacy on the balcony and that guests are able to smoke out there allowing the smoke to drift across onto neighbouring balconies and into the rooms.

We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights before Christmas. It’s a really nice big hotel with a great staff, a perfect location next to the sea and near the inner city of Valletta. In terms of hitting what we wanted, the hotel was perfect for us. It seemed to be a mixed clientele of varying nationalities and various ages. The breakfast was good with nice view to the harbour, but we did not eat in the restaurant. The hotel has everything you need. We visited Malta to celebrate my birthday, as very nice surprise the hotel sent in our room a piece of excellent chocolate cake and a bottle of red wine! All the staff were very very helpful and friendly (almost at the reception) on the whole an enjoyable stay but there is room for improvement. Small problem with the heating in our room (in December the outside temperature at the night is around 10-13 degrees) but it was fixed immediately. The hotel inside pool is nice but quite old school. In the main season you can profite of the private beach with small private yacht marine, a large pool outside, outdoor restaurant next to the sea, gym, nice private area around the hotel with small gardens, e. g. Every room has a balcony and you get two free water every day. We forgot our travel adapter / power plug change and we bought them in hotel boutique. The bus station is just before the main gate into Valletta so we used that quite a bit to explore the island. There would be much more to write, but in the end we just want to thank the whole staff. Overall then, hotel was perfect for what we wanted and would absolutely recommend the Grand Hotel Excelsior. We're going to come back to Malta and we will more than likely stay here.

The hotels location was perfect for our needs. Others have complained about it but we found it a pleasant stroll home after dinner. There is a hill to walk up but Valletta is hilly - it’s not a flat city!

Being the last room in the corridor we were awoken with the clanging of the hotels pipework I did complain about it but unfortunately it didn’t change. Also our shower should have a better temperature thermostat controller as it was extremely hot.

The property is huge and the facilities are great - is a very vintage hotel and definitely needs an upgrade on the bedding sheets and some things in the bathroom but overall is great. Every afternoon a lady pass asking if we need towel or any shampoo - and even gave us chocolates!!! As well, there is a breakfast box that they provided because our flight was very early: we were very happy with it!

The rooms are clean and the staff was gracious and accommodating. We were given a welcome drink as we checked in, which was a nice touch. The location is great and there is an offset bar that is open 24 hours. The included morning breakfast is robust and our family loved it. You have so many choices from omelettes to crêpes, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruits, and cheeses, the list goes on. Amazing pool and private beach.

Our room would get particularly warm at night. It didn’t seem like you could get it any cooler at the lowest setting on the AC. Rooms are also seeing their age, although there is something nostalgic about the overall decor.
