We stayed at Casa del Balam for two weeks. The first week we stayed in the master suite which had a great patio overlooking the pool. We moved to a king suite for the second week. The hotel is close to town center, restaurants and shopping. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
There were some plumbing issues with the bathroom sink in the master suite during our first week. During the second week we had issues with the toilet in the king suite. Even though the issue was taken care of in a timely manner, the problem kept recurring. This is a great property but a good thorough cleaning and a paint job would do wonders for its appearance.

The room was a good size with a comfortable bed and a good-sized bathroom. The shower was great. The room was quiet. The hotel is right in the center of the city and it's easy to get places on foot from there. The staff were helpful, despite not having much English. The breakfast, which is in a restaurant attached to the hotel but separate, was excellent, with delightful service. The pool is small but pretty. The elevator was helpful.
There wasn't enough light in the bedroom, no lamp on one side of the bed, so reading was impossible. There were no glasses in the room and the toilet was slow, but it did work.

The location couldn't have been better for seeing the main sites at Merida. The beds were decent and the bathroom was perfectly fine. The parking situation was quite good - while not free, there was covered parking and spacious lot about 100ft away, which only charges 50MXN ($2.50 USD ) per day for hotel guests. This was a huge benefit as the hotel is in the city center.
The room had curtains, but they let in a lot of light at sunrise, so it was impossible to sleep in. The pool was a bit dirty and had a low water level. The hotel used an old fashioned system of leaving the room key with reception when going out - which was a bit annoying to wait for when they were busy with other guests.

The hotel is beautiful. The room was extra big, clean and had a nice terrace overlooking the main street. There was no noise coming from outside. The location is perfect. Just two blocks from the Cathedral, shops and restaurants. The guitar player and singer in the mornings at the terrace was an extra bonus. We really enyoyed his music.
When we arrived on a thursday , they inform us that the water heater had just broken and by saturday it will be fixed. Although they offer a discount and/or for us to go to another hotel, we decided to stay because it was the "Dia de los Muertos" weekend and Merida was quite full. However, we did no have hot water until the last day of our stay next tuesday. I think that problem should have been take care off inmediatly in a hotel of such category. It was cold every day.

We loved the hotel! It is very "old school" in the best way. The staff is friendly, polite, and responsive to your needs. We loved the lady who cleaned our room! She is a gem!! The restaurant in the hotel is quite good and the prices are honestly super good for a restaurant inside a hotel. Our room was big, with two comfortable double beds and fluffy pillows. You are not staying at a hotel that is part of a chain, so if you need the anonymous I-could-be-anywhere- in-the-world feel, this hotel might not be for you. I think it has a lot of charm, and our room was QUIET. We were there two weeks, so I think I have a pretty balanced view.
Only one thing was not great. It didn't bother me that much, but it did irk my millennial daughter. The wifi in our room was so slow it would definitely be a problem if you needed it for work. We found a wonderful coffee shop right across the street with great food and coffee and excellent wifi. It was a very doable work around and frankly saved the day for my daughter, especially. The coffee shop across the street is Márago Coffee, by the way. We had several great conversations with the owner, check it out.

The room was large with a large window for natural light, besides the two beds there was a small table with chair and a dresser for clothes. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was excellent, and had just about the only tub we saw on our trip. The hotel has a beautiful atrium going up several stories with plants and the upstairs hallways opened to the atrium. We often sat on the rocking chairs in the hallway for fresh air, to read a book or visit. We also dined in the downstairs restaurant and atrium (service provided by the restaurant) which was lovely. The pool area was excellent, we were the only people to swim but many others shared the lovely sunshine in the pool area. The staff were most attentive and helpful. We loved the old elevator system.
Window that doesn't open. We enjoy fresh air.

This is not our 1st time here. We love this property. Staff is friendly and location is great! We will be back again for sure. The bellhop is very kind and helpful as well as front desk staff
housekeeping did a great job the first 2 days then the last service she did not sweep and mop well at all and left dirty coffee cups also in this room TV is in bedroom not in living room so we did not use it. . I tipped her anyhow because the service was fine for 2 days. The restaurant is terrible. Slow service and cold food It’s called bistro 57 and I do no recommend it at all

The room was very clean, decorated nicely with what looked like authentic Mexican paintings and crafts. I like that there was a separate table and chairs I could set up my laptop on and do some work. The Front Desk, Bellmen and cleaning staff were extremely helpful.
Problems with the elevators, however there was always one elevator working. I wanted to use the pool however there was only a metal ladder to get into it, and I need steps to walk in. However, I saw lots of people, enjoying the pool.

Great Location! in the heart of the city. Walk to loads of restaurants, parks, laundry, cafes, outdoor restaurants. In the middle of historic Centro. Restaurant in the hotel is fantastic - great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, we ate there multiple times during our 6 night stay.
This is an older hotel in Centro, so it has a slight rustic feel. Everything is very clean, beds are comfortable, shower is great, only thing we would suggest is a couple more towels in the bathroom.

This hotel is the perfect location. it is in the center of town and from there a short walk north or south gets you too all the places you would want to see. It is also surrounded by many 1 or 2 storey buildings making it easy to find when walking the city. The atrium is amazing and overall the hotel has a great hacienda feel. The staff are greta and the pool is fantastic. There is also an attached restaurant where you can get food or drinks and even have them by the pool.
The Air conditioning systems are a little old and if you are someone that wants a cold room this could be an issue. I run hot and typically like the rooms to be at 73F which i am sure the AC didn't get it to but I was prepared to be hot in Mexico and therefore did not find the experience too bad and it definitely did not overshadow the amazing qualities of this hotel.
