The hotel is set in a brilliant location within the city centre only a couple minutes walk from Porto Sao Bento station. The hotel is very clear and modern with the room being very comfortable and spacious, the bed was very comfy. The wifi was excellent and the staff who we interacted with were very friendly and helpful.

The room was a little noisy at times, we often heard other people moving in their rooms and in the corridor. There was a massive leak on our floor from the celling during our stay, however this was dealt with very quickly by the staff and the following day it seemed to have been sorted.

The location is just perfect. It's very convenient for exploring the most beautiful and authentic parts of Porto. The price is very democratic. The receptionists are friendly, polite and helpful. The linen was white and crispy, the room and the bathroom were properly cleaned and had everything needed for a good stay, including a property working shower with hot water. We appreciated the furniture since there were enough shelves to place all our belongings. We also appreciated a kettle and cups. There's Continente supermarket several minutes up the street.

The room feels and smells a little bit damp, probably because of the wet climate of Porto. When the air conditioner is switched on, it improves the situation.

I stayed at this hotel last Christmas so very happy to book again for this Christmas. There was a good choice of food for breakfast. All the staff were very kind and helpful., nothing was too much trouble The Gate is a couple of minute's walk from San Bento Station. Both trains and buses are extremely cheap. (Fast trains are expensive) It is a town you can comfortably stroll around. Gaia on the other side of the Douro river has all the port houses you can visit/sample. River trip lovely when you need a rest, Cable car great fun.

Absolutely nothing.

The location was excellent. Right in the heart of the city with shops and restaurants nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I wanted to head to the cinema and the staff were helpful in navigating the location of the cinema and the Metro stops involved. I also had a chance to chat with the Manager that runs the hotel, a Mr Gonzalez, a lovely chap. He took the time from his busy schedule - I am sure- to tell me a bit about the hotel and about Porto which was very interesting. The bathroom and room was relatively big for a single person room and it was clean. Overall a very nice visit.

The hotel was close to a Metro station which helped us get from the bus station to the hotel and, later, travel around the city. There were lots of places to eat and drink close to the hotel. Although a small hotel, it had a 24 hour reception so it didn't matter what time one returned to the hotel at night.

Initially, it was a little difficult to find, despite having a sign over the sidewalk. The entrance to the hotel is a small security door under the sign. The doorway is surrounded by shops, so it can be easily missed.

It was excellent, the room was cleaned every day, we had the chance to leave our bags to the reception after checking out, before we travelled. The location was absolutely great, 5-6 mins away from a metro station, we travelled by bus from Lisboa to Porto’s Campanha station and the distance between Campanha and the hotel was about 15 mins by only getting the metro for 3 stops and walking a little. It is also very close to a shopping centre, monuments, great restaurants and on a 15min walk from the Ribeira district (from where you can get a cruise tour aprox. 1h)

Great location - in the center of everything and super near to the train station. Reception works 24/7. I didnt really use tv wxcept for checking out programs they have. It was a nice surprise that they had english speaking movies and all that.

The sound proofing is not that great. Streets can get noisy during the night, and the terrace windows are not blocking much of the noise. Same goes for walls. The property had a laundry/ironing listed as services on Booking. However they did not have them. I was happy nevertheless, all of the comments serve as a chance to improve these things to another level.

This is a modern hotel in the old city centre. Staff members are nice and efficient. The location, while not the closest to the river Douro (but only one kilometre away!), is really convenient, very close to the main train station, within easy reach from the airport by metro, and within walking distance from a range of attractions, restaurants and shops.

Nothing really. It is true that some party-goers in the street can be a bit loud at night, but nothing outrageous - and there were very few when I stayed there (which was in early July, so well into the high season).

Brilliant stay in Porto, the location was central to most highlights. The desk staff were friendly and helpful, in particular Hilary and Manuela; the manager Gonsalo was marvellous in spending time highlighting places to visit on our street map. Nothing was too difficult even to the point of holding our baggage on the last day and arranging for our ride to the airport. We would highly recommend Th Gate to any holidaymakers.

Only negative was one cleaner who cleared all our personal toiletries and dumped them on the side of the wash basin, on the 2nd last day🤔

All the staff were so kind and helpful. The hotel was warm and comfortable. My room was quiet. As a 78 year old female travelling alone it was so good to know I could approach the staff and ask for directions . It was such a lovely gesture to spend time chatting to the manager on a couple of mornings about where I had been and was heading for next. The hotel is located near the Millenium building, not far from the Douro river and station. I love to wander and it was easy to ask the very helpful locals the way back using the Millenium building as a landmark, which I did every day !!

There just isn't anything I did not like. I did not want to be in a pretentious hotel where I would feel uncomfortable so The Gate fitted the bill exactly.
