Nice rooms, well located. All very new.

A very big issue was the (optional) service charge applied to the entire stay which is automatically added to your bill and you have to go through the embarrassment of asking for it to be removed on checking out. Applying a service charge to an entire hotel stay is something we’ve never experienced in the U.K. or anywhere outside of one hotel in the US. This is very American and it left a bad taste in our mouth. We booked this hotel for a certain price and there should be no automatic additions of service charges.

Super room and food. The hotel is very comfortable, with excellent views of the castle and pastures. Outdoor seating was attractive and comfortable. All members of staff were courteous and helpful, greeting us with a genuine smile. Nothing was too much bother for them.

Although not the fault of the hotel, the fact the lift was out of order had a significant impact on my disabled wife's enjoyment of the short break. She struggled to climb stairs to the second floor to reach our room. However, I must praise all staff members who went out of their way to help us.

Breakfast staff could of been better managed.

The decor from top to bottom is outstanding. The location couldn’t be any better. The restaurant, staff and luggage assistance staff were outstanding.

The additional gratuity added on without my knowledge for room service and anything ordered at the bar. I would be tipping throughout only to find service fees for each item on my final invoice AND a voluntary gratuity to all staff on checking out. I would and did agree for overall staff gratuity, but the other items shouldn’t be billed or at least not on final bill ~ should be given that option as you pay or charge to the room.

Lovely hotel in a great location just across the road from Alnwick Castle. Friendly staff. Good selection of continental and cooked food for breakfast. Would definitely visit again.

It is quite a climb up a steep hill from the car park. As we were leaving, they were installing a stair lift from the upper car park where disabled parking is available. They do offer valet parking and there was talk of running a golf cart type shuttle to the lower car park at some point in the future. The hotel had only just opened when we visited, so some minor works were still being completed. Some channels on the TV were not available in the room. This was being worked on while we were there but, did not get resolved. There was a lack of information in the room, eg. no menus. I expect these will be sorted out in time.

Location was perfect, room was very nice and all staff were extremely pleasant.

I thought I had booked a room with a balcony and was bitterly disappointed that this wasn’t the case. Only issue we had was breakfast it seemed chaotic, staff appeared to be run off their feet, 2 days running they brought tea & coffee when we had requested just coffees, the breakfast was very undercooked, fat on bacon still clear, whit of egg not cooked and sausages very pale, also the toast was barely toasted - like hot bread, so there is definitely room for improvement there, perhaps more staff ?

Amazing hotel in a great location. Fully refurbished to an exceptionally high standard. Rooms were large with quality furnishings and an extra-large king size bed. Large bathroom with shower and all care products provided. Staff couldn't do enough to ensure your stay exceeded your expectations. Breakfast fantastic. So pleased we stayed at the Baliffgate hotel and will definitely stay again when in Alnwick.

No big problem but a small point to note if you have accessibility problems; the car park is located a couple of flights of stairs from reception but if space available, you can offload luggage at the front of the hotel before parking at the rear.

Overall the hotel is beautiful and comfortable in a central location in Alnwick.

-Bin hadn't been emptied from previous guest -Bath tipped when in use and leaked -Breakfast was a shambles and not worth the price paid. Husband received wrong order and mine was inedible. Asked for some toast, waited 15 minutes and still none arrived (unfortunately other buffet options weren't a suitable option due to dietary requirements). Staff did not seem to know what they were doing e.g. know where mugs, plates etc were kept. -We informed staff of these issues on checkout and hopefully this is just a teething problem as it is a new hotel and the stay was otherwise pleasant.

Lack of fish on menus although plenty available locally. Menu didn’t change so disappointing if staying more than 2 nights. Bathroom- Bath uncomfortable and no grab rails to assist getting in or out. Basin hopeless-couldn’t hold water - lifted flap at back and it was not clean. No information folder in bedroom - needed to operate air conditioning, etc. No book of Alnwick Castle in my room but in friend’s room.
