The staff was excellent & friendly! Such a cute little place, with everything you need to have a memorable stay. They provided coffee & lovely croissants with jam and butter for breakfast. If one wants more, they refer you to Kviknes hotel for a discounted rate at their breakfast. The hotel was in a fabulous location overlooking the Fjords. Absolutely breathtaking views from our balcony, and also lots of seating outside with cushioned chairs, and blankets available for chilly nights. Tho we never used it, the little sauna is a fabulous addition to have available, and looked to be quite popular! Paddle boards, billiards, games, a bar all at the property. Loved our stay:)

No TV- To us this was actually a plus (net positive:) as we don’t watch TV anyways- but decided to put it down in this column as I realize not everyone might feel the same. I didn’t actually notice this fact until our second day there, as we were so in awe with the scenery, and busy with things to explore.

We fell in love with this hotel’s seaside view, eclectic decor and community vibe. This hotel felt connected to Balestrand’s unique community in a way most hotels don’t. An easy walk from the ferry. Our room was basic but exceptionally clean, with comfortable beds, bedding, chairs, strong and stable WiFi, quirky local artwork, a balcony with two chairs plus table and an incredible view (upgrading to a sea view was worth every penny). Our bathroom was older looking but functional and very clean. The hotel provided body wash, packets of shampoo, hairdryer, earplugs (it’s an older building so rooms aren’t completely silent but we didn’t find it disruptive), two glasses, lots of shelving above the toilet, and a wardrobe. Bring conditioner, lotion, and an eye mask if you need to sleep in a dark room in summer months. No kettle, coffee maker (coffee is available in the lobby), or TV in room. Friendly and helpful hotel staff. There’s a private beach, sauna, parking, bar in the lobby, games, a pool table, indoor and outdoor seating, hammock, a small lending library by the hotel’s back door and a few kids toys, older but working elevator, and fresh croissants, coffee, jam, and butter in the morning. A partial voucher for breakfast at a neighboring hotel was offered at check in. We absolutely loved our stay here, it was a highlight of our Norway vacation, and we really want to go back to spend more time there. If you’re looking for a traditional generic hotel experience then this isn’t the hotel for you, but if you like a clean, comfortable, friendly, small-town hotel with a unique community vibe and incredible views then check this place out.

Nothing really. There wasn’t an option to book a time for the sauna at check in, the sauna website is only in Norwegian which makes booking tricker. No conditioner or washcloth, but those don’t seem to be commonly provided in Norwegian hotels overall. There’s no hotel or local souvenir merch available for sale in the lobby, something simple like postcards would be nice.

Great value for money, very comfortable. Good location. Helpful staff, nice area in hotel reception where you can chill, it rained for quite a lot of our stay so was fun to play the boardgames provided. There is a drop in Sauna at the bottom of their garden on the water's edge that was amazing to experience. The decor was really interesting.

The shower (wet room) would flood and make the whole floor wet. They had floor-squeegee to help with that, but we had to lay extra towels on the floor to not get our socks wet. Would have been good to have a few extra plug sockets around the room.

This is a hotel with a very young vibe ; do not expect luxury here...the environment (views of the fjords) provide that. It was really nice to experience this hotel but difficult to explain what kind of category it falls under : youth hotel + pet hotel + very open minded ('hip'). In short: a happy place. So do not expect a boutique style of hotel but very basic (in a positive way). We came in and the reception is also the bar so we could immediately sit at the front terrace with fjord views having drinks. If you need something, just ask the will try to provide it. Bonus: we opted for their standard breakfast (croissant+coffee) but when we checked in we were surprised with the message it would be a bit more : home made cakes... They also have their own 'beach'/garden with sauna. There is a beach/swimming pond 100 meters up the road.

Not really negative comments (more supportive). Currently the building looks old (maybe from the brutalistic architecture era) and although you see they recently did a interior 'fresh-up' I still could see the bath room floor being original while the walls were new (grouting reveals this :-) ). But again: clean, fresh vibe.

Our room was in the newer 4 story building of the hotel. The room was basic, all white, clean, and a bit more spacious than some. The beds were very comfortable. The best part was the incredibly beautiful, unobstructed view of the fjord and the mountains which we enjoyed either from our room, or from the balcony off the room which included two chairs and a table. The person at the desk/check-in was very pleasant and helpful. There are plenty of places to sit outside in front of the hotel and in the lobby. Parking was easy and free.

The hotel fit our needs very well. Reviews for restaurants were not promising, so we chose not to spend too much money on restaurants in Balestrand. We opted for a pizza at the pizza/ice cream restaurant at the harbor. Our advice: avoid it. We ate our pizza, but it was not worth the calories. There were customers who actually left half their pizzas behind for the birds to fight over.

It's a lovely hotel, very modern, young, trendy. I'm old, but I liked the vibe. They have coffee/tea available in the lobby all the time, but not in the room. The breakfast is simple - croissants and tea/coffee. The hotel is right on the water with a lovely view of the fjord and close to the other hotels, the little church and restaurants. Lovely place. Would stay again.

It was an unusually warm day for Balestrand and very sunny. The room was hot and I had to open the doors/windows to cool things off and then I was inundated with flies! Not the hotel's fault obviously, although I would suggest they consider some screens! But it is a lovely spot and I highly recommend it. They can't control Mother Nature.

Greatly situated near the Sognefjord with gorgeous views and direct access to the water (not super-accessible though so we went over to the pier at Kviknes hotel to swim). Beds were comfortable enough and the room clean. The bar downstairs had a great range of options for drinks and the staff were friendly. Short walk to restaurants.

The room was dated and rather sad looking. A bit odd that some staff did not speak Norwegian. The room got quite hot at times. The croissant breakfast just wasn’t available one day without explanation.

Wonderful, super friendly and helpful team of women. They made the stay for our 30th wedding anniversary so special. Very thoughtful. Wonderful spot. We will definitely return one day. The rooms are extremely clean and gorgeous fjord view! Lovely grass and sauna and swimming area right next to the fjord. We enjoyed the barbecue on July 12th, the bar drinks, the croissants in the morning! Cool vibes and inclusive of all. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to the wonderful women there!!!!

Everything was perfect.

The bed was amazing, the ocean view from the room really beautiful and the vibe in the lobby hip and cool - loved it! The lady who was at work when I arrived late at night, Sofia, was out of this world. In the last 35 years I have travel a lot in and stay in hotels in about 50 countries, she was, by far, the most polite, kind and amazing worker I ever meet at a hotel. Her smile, conversation skills and spirit made my tiredness of a 12 hour working day disappear in seconds. Will stay here for sure next time I’m in the area!

We had a room with big windows overlooking the fjord as well as a balcony. The rooms are spare, but completely adequate. And, we had a good shower which we appreciated. It had a string to hang a few hand-washed items, again, very appreciated. Breakfast was simple - croissants and coffee/tea. But, we didn't even expect that, so it was a welcome bonus. The hotel is walking distance from the ferry, the little town and to a lovely stroll by some artist colony villas which were exquisite. Everyone we met at the hotel was happy to be there. And, we got terrific tips about the history of the area and for places to visit from the staff.

We liked it all, but it is not for those who seek luxury. This is a simple, straightforward, comfortable hotel run by a family that cares about its customers.
