The room was very spacious and colourful with a living room and TV. Very nice views. Beautiful old house. Location is at the edge of the centre, but only a short walk to bars/restaurants. There is a natural swimming pool just outside which costs 5.70 euros. Staff were friendly and responsive online. There is a little fridge with drinks for your convenience (but not free of charge which I did not realise as it is not a hotel).

Unfortunately there is a bar outside which has music on till midnight on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I could still hear the noise with the windows closed and earplugs. Not convenient for early hikes at the weekend. The church just outside the window is pretty, but also pretty noisy and goes off hourly from 8am till 8pm. So no sleeping in and no naps in the afternoon. Best to plan early hikes during the week only. If you are sensitive to noise for sleep, this might not be your best fit.

Room and bathroom were lovely and large with outside balcony and view of the hills. (Victoria room) And a fridge and a kettle and use of the kitchen. We liked being at the end of the old town and close to the seafront where there was a bar overlooking the sea. Everywhere was walkable and places to eat in abundance. Communal breakfast around a large table was a delight, meeting other guests from all over the world and sharing tips on what to do and where to go. The food was good as well! The team couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Thank you everybody at Vitorina for giving us a wonderful week!

We loved everything about the property The location is perfect in the old town surrounded by restaurants and bars. The Guesthouse itself has so much charm and history that really add to the experience The host Grace is so warm and inviting that it really felt like we were visiting family or friends Also due to issues with our flight we did not arrive until 2am and Daniel the manager met us at the airport and delivered us safely to what he quite rightly described as paradise Having the garden at the back of the property to relax in is another bonus and the water views from our room on the second floor were magical

The location is great, right in the old town area next to lots of restaurants and bars but not too close that it is noisy. Has a real traditional feel as it is an old building beautifully kept maintaining a unique position in the old town next to an equally old church who’s bells still ring out. You feel you are on holiday staying here. And well, what can I say about the staff and owner Grace. What a great friendly bunch of people, truly authentic and could not do enough. Augustino driving us from and to the Airport and providing local knowledge, bus timetable etc. Fabiano, really nice host and breakfast chef. Grace, could not do enough and helped accommodate us when we returned after flights were cancelled, joined us for chats at breakfast and felt like she had invited us into her home for a few days. Thank you all for making our holiday so good.

Nothing it was a fantastic place

The view is perfect! It is a traditional, authentic city house situated at the edge of the old and most beautiful part of Funchal. It is equiped with everything you need, even if something is missing you can find it yourself in the big shared kitchen or ask the host. The hosts are very kind and warmhearted. There is a nearby garage with the discount for the guests. I recommend the 3 bed apartments on the second floor since they have scenic views over the ocean and Funchal promenade, especially the apartment on the top. For those seeking for a peaceful stay, there are rooms looking at the isolated backyard garden. The local beach is at the fortress in front of the accomodation (2-3 mins easy walking). The old city (Zona Velha) restaurants and bakery are only few minutes down the most beautiful and artistic street Rua de Santa Maria. The nearby caffee Barreirinha has some stunning views and relaxing atmosphere during all day. At Fridays and Saturdays, thematic musical evenings are organized which can be quite interesting. The working hours end at midnight after which you can only hear the waves until the morning. Over the years I stayed in different parts of Funchal, but I find this location perfect.

Though it's a personal impression, everything was fine for me. The accommodation is much better than shown on the pictures from booking, the front side rooms are much brighter and sunnier than presented. The bell from the nearby Church rings at 8 and 9am, which is a good reminder not to waste too much time sleeping. : )

As a female solo traveller it felt perfect. It was a central location next to an amazing swim spot, meaning it was easy to catch buses to hikes and then come back for a dip. I really loved this place, it had the comforts of a hotel but with the warmth of staying at someone's home. The American lady who owned it was so warm and friendly. It was great coming back from a day out on the trails to have a chat with her and share stories. I really loved that there's a communal breakfast too to meet others - just sad it was too late and I set off before it began most mornings!

It'd be great if there was an earlier breakfast option for those who are up and out on the trails. I think it'd help people meet one another - which I know the owner was keen to support.

Impeccable location for walkability of Funchal and the building has a lot of charm and character. Ended up staying in both the balcony suite and the top floor room as there were a couple of hiccups with plumbing renovations, which were handled quickly and made up for. Special thanks to Andy who is lovely. Definitely worth going for that top floor if you can as it's gorgeous, the views and the enclosed balcony are dreamy. Very comfy beds in each, the other rooms are fairly no frills but arguably good value for a comfy bed in such a convenient picturesque location.

Location is fab, service is second to none. Everyone is very relaxed and always happy to help. We got the grandfather’s room and it’s super spacious with plenty of space and amazing views. You are able to use the garden space in the back of a property, very relaxing with lots of beautiful plants. You can just chill there after a long day of exploring the lively island. Breakfasts are delicious with the choice of fruit and veg, plenty of teas and lovely coffee too.

Honestly we cannot fault anything.

An excellent fulfilling breakfast is served. From cereal to eggs of any style with a variety of protein treats (bacon, hams, cheezes). The staff is attentive and provides everything they are capable of. We would definitely return for a stay. A refined relaxed atmosphere with pleasant garden and arbor seating to enjoy your self provided adult beverage.

The front rooms provide the best views, however there is road noise during the commute time.

This is a really beautifully located and authentic guesthouse, right opposite the sea and in the old quarter of the city. Everything is conveniently located within a few minutes walk ; public transport, tours, cable car, any number of great restaurants and as others have said a very handy and scenic bar just a few meters away. If that is not enough, you have a wonderful host in Fabiano whose smiling face and 'the best scrambled eggs' in Madeira greet you each morning. He is just one of the nicest and most helpful people you could ever meet. Thanks Fabiano!!

We really enjoyed our stay but would recommend a bit of updating of the beds.
