What a view!!! Stunning from the pool area and assuming some rooms. Breakfast was great (fruit, eggs, hoppers etc). Tucked on a hill but a short stroll into town down some stairs and over a railway track makes it a fun little trek, however it is steep going back up, not a problem for us but something to keep in mind but can always get a tuk tuk if needed. Bus boys and breakfast staff were really lovely

We had booked a room with 3 beds but when shown to our room it only had 2 - voiced this and the manager said it was a booking.com.error and that they (booking.com) had specifically assigned this particular room to us and all other rooms were booked. I explained 3 beds was what I had booked and paid for and showed them my confirmation and they miraculously found a room which was available. This room had an obstructed view, did not look like the pictures and was definitely one of the lesser quality of rooms but had 3 beds and as for us it is a place to lay our heads whilst we swim and explore I didn't complain.

What a view! Basic traditional hotel overlooking Ella Rock, Little Adam's Peak and the valley in between. From the minute we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for us. They were attentive, friendly and happy. The rooms are basic and the walls a bit thin but there was everything that we needed for a comfortable stay including tea and coffee making facilities & a fridge. The location is stunning. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to Ella via a short cut and there are plenty of tuk tuks to bring you home if you don't fancy the hill. We did find that from Ella centre, walking to the station & along the train track cut out most of the hill & was a pleasent walk back to the hotel. Ella is very busy & it was nice to stay a little bit out of the centre. The hotel is a lovely 45 minute walk along the train tracks to Nine Arch bridge. It's also a short tuk tuk ride to Little Adam's Peak. We caught the early train from Ella to Kandy and one of the staff members brought us sandwiches to take with us as we would miss breakfast. Such a lovely thought. The staff really do make this hotel & we would definitely stay again.

The soundproofing between rooms could do with being improved.

Lovely staff and excellent food for both dinner and breakfast! We decided to eat at the restaurant as the rain came in and the walk into Ella town would have been a bit of a trek. Our children loved the pool we used it after breakfast before we checked out. Staff were very friendly and happy to cook you what you wanted! Lovely place and Ella is lovely to explore. We had a very large family room. The kettle they gave us didn’t have the right plug so they kindly gave us an adapter so we could use it! Glorious views in the Morning too.

The path down was very steep so we didn’t dare take the car down as didn’t think we would have got it back up! So had to leave the car at the top of the hill in the lay-by and walk our stuff down. This is obviously not the hotels fault. You could choose to get a tuk tuk up and down if needed

There is a lot to like here. The view is endlessly gratifying. There was a very dramatic storm of heavy rain and a thick white mist that rolled in one afternoon across Ella Gap (the space that the hotel overlooks, between Ella Rock on the right and Little Adam’s Peak on the left), and even that, with its all consuming blankness, managed to look rather spectacular from the hotel. However, any hotel in Ella that sells itself on its superior view is obviously low on value because views are ten a penny here — travel a few metres up in any direction and you can’t help looking at something breathtaking. Luckily Ravana Range has a lot more to offer — the main attractions for me being the pool, the very good breakfasts (lovely servers too), the endlessly helpful staff, the big terraces for each room and the massive beds. Other reviewers mention the thin walls and lack of sound proofing, but we slept in two different rooms during our stay and in neither did we have an issue with noise. In fact I even tested it by calling to my children through the walls and got no response — they couldn’t hear me. I did wonder if sound insulation might be the reason for the rather odd positioning of the beds, all of which were pushed into the middle of the room, away from the walls. Finally yes, there are many steps in the four-storey building. If you are v unfit you may find this an issue. We did not find it a problem as we were out on the ground floor for one night and the first for the second. Staff were always willing to help too. Short walk from town especially if you follow the tracks home.

It was amazing but the beds were uncomfortable

We were simply blown away by how welcoming, helpful, charming and endlessly attentive the staff were here. Nothing was too much trouble and even though we only stayed two nights they quickly learned our favourite things and by the end of the first day they were pre-empting our requests. I noticed that they have a sit-down staff meeting every morning which I think is a sign of good management and is probably a big part of why we felt so well looked after. We were appointed our ‘own’ staff member who was nominally responsible for our wellbeing; embarrassingly I’m not sure if I got his name right but I think it was Dhusante, and he did an amazing job of making us feel very comfortable. We also adored the huge selection at breakfasts, the incredible view (although a fabulous view is basically unavoidable in Ella thanks to its extraordinary mountain location), the minibar in the bedrooms, the huge beds and the welcome provision of mosquito nets, the massive private terraces in front of all the rooms, the pool, and the brilliant price which made it probably the best value place we stayed in all of Sri Lanka. Also: the supper was stupendous. On our second night our son was sick so we couldn’t go out, so we had to eat there — but we were well rewarded! It was divine. Some of the reviews complain about steepness of the climb up to the hotel and that their car couldn’t make it. It’s really a very short distance that the cars can’t manage; tuktuks (expensive in Ella compared to other areas as all the tuktuks have an agreement that they will all charge a minimum of 500rupees regardless of the distance) are available to over the shortfall and if you need to dispense with transport altogether there is a brilliant shortcut along the track from the town, which takes about 4 minutes to walk. Everyone walks on the train track here! It’s pretty safe as the train makes a lot of warning noise on approach.

There was very little not to like but a couple of things could be improved: - the beds were very hard and only one pillow provided per person - it would be nice if there could be a beanbag or something up on the private terraces. The tables and chairs were great but one room did have a beanbag and that made all the difference - sometimes the staff were just a tiny bit too attentive! They were adorable but being asked if you’re OK every two minutes by multiple staff members can get ever so slightly awkward. Also, it would have been easier to fetch my own coffee and tea rather than having to ask for refills multiple times, but I cannot fault the team who weee always ready and available and very very obliging!

The staff were so lovely and attentive They ordered Tuk tuks for us. They arrange our laundry and ironing for us. They helped us with our luggage. Always lovely to speak to. Thank you for making it such a lovely experience for us!

The only negative I will say unfortunately the room we were in were literally paper thin, the room next to us had the bed same side as ours and we could literally hear every word we felt like we were in the same room as them, they were snoring really loud which is fine but it kept us up during the night, we felt bad knocking on the wall for them to be quiet but we just couldn’t sleep through it.

The views from this place are out of this world - so amazing to just sit there and take in the Ella Gap between the two mountains and on the side a bonus waterfall. We watched as the mist rolled in during the afternoon - was magical. Rooms are big and comfortable (we even had a bath tub), air con works well. Balcony is huge with bean bags for sitting in . And there is a fridge. One of the reasons we picked this place was it was close to the train tracks which makes it easy to walk to the start of the Ella Rock hike and get into town (and yes everyone walks ON the train tracks - make sure you're listening for the whistle so you get off!) Other than the view, the best bit was the pool - jumping in there after the sweaty hike up to Ella Rock was SO good. Sitting in the pool looking up at the mountain we had just climbed was one of the highlights of the trip. I had one of the best meals of Sri Lanka in the restaurant - was incredible. Only a short walk along the tracks to the chaos that is Ella town and there is a street full of restaurants and shops. Chill Cafe is a good option - they supported the unemployed drivers during COVID.

We stayed on the top floor in the Suite with Mountain View - the only thing that stopped this from being a perfect stay was the fact the walls are paper thin. You literally hear every single word from next door. Luckily we were on the end so had only one neighbour. The rooms on lower floors may be better insulated.... The hotel is down a short, steep road which our driver wasn't keen on trying - the hotel sent a free tuk tuk up to us to transport ourselves and the bags to the hotel. When we took the tuk tuk back up on leaving, the driver demanded to be paid. The hotel owner may not have been aware of this but just confirm with staff before you leave. There is a parking lot attached to the hotel and people with smaller cars didn't have a problem getting there.

10/10 the staff, the location, the room, the atmosphere. I will never forget this place. The staff made it extra special. Thusara and his team went above and beyond making sure we were happy and looked after, number one service! Uditha the chef was incredible. Each morning the food was delicious, a great choice of food. My kids loved all the fruit and the curries were fantastic. On Christmas Day the team worked very hard and prepared a special evening meal. It was fantastic and I won’t forget the evening. The pool was perfect, very child friendly. The view is stunning, we saw monkeys, a black eagle and a woodpecker from the pool area. The room was great, very clean and spacious. Town was just a short walk away. The team organised taxis and tuk tuks as and when we needed them.

The location above town but 10min walk along railway. The staff were first class, always on hand to offer assistance and give tips. The room (triple) was fantastic, spacious clean with 2 big beds. Balcony overlooked the stunning views of Adam’s Peak and beyond. The pool was clean and refreshing, pool bar made great cocktails and snacks. Dinner, we chose the butter masala, one of the best I’ve ever eaten, breakfast buffet was delicious and when we told them we had to check out at 3.30am for a safari, staff made us a packed breakfast and there was someone waiting to take our bags to the taxi. Exceptional service. Love this hotel and its people!

Nothing

The view was exceptional and we had a pool which my daughters used - rooms were large with a shower and toilet and large beds (bed needed changing for sure as noisy in our room!) but overall a good stay and friendly people. Rooms could do with refreshing if I were being picky but it served the purpose for the price and that is what I would have expected - but refreshing it a little more would make for a better stay and experience for such a lovely location - however, the stay was nice and I am glad I picked the hotel. Enjoyed our stay it was central too and you could reach Ella main area easily.
