I love the fact that it's near all the places we needed to go to as well as bars & cafés. I also love the bathroom set-up; how the toilet is separated from the shower. Moreover, the size of the shower is amazing!!!! I am in love with the shower design, how it has 2 options of shower heads, there's a spot for our personal toiletries. This hotel shower / bathroom is my favorite setup out of all the hotels I've visited my whole life. I also love the sofa setup by the window and how we can easily open the window when it got too hot.
I didn't like the fact that the room is a bit small and too hot. There's no control for the room temperature. The sofa by the window was dirty. I also didn't like how the hotel didn't have at least 1 US outlet.

The location was perfect for walking and enjoying local sites and restaurants. We arrived prior to check in time, stored our luggage, and went out for the afternoon. They sent a text when the room was ready, which ended up being earlier than anticipated, which was great!
If you don't know what you're looking for it can be easy to miss the front entrance.

there wasn't enough heat, the room was cold and the floorm was really cold. I would imagine in this climate, for a expensive hotel it would have had radient heat in the floors. Downtown in this part of Reykjvik has haeted sidewalks. the high temperture while we were there was 40 F. the room was lovely the bed was great as was the shower ,however, the only place to be comfortable was in bed. now we have been to this city several times in both M arch and November staying in several different Hotels and never been cold. Maybe because it's new things aren't up to par yet

The hotel is the definition of a boutique hotel - cosy, stylish and friendly. The reception staff were amazing - so helpful and it felt like a genuinely warm welcome. The room was pretty much a standard size. We were right over the Main Street which parties late but the glazing cuts out most of the noise. The location really couldn't be more central and everything is in easy reach. Highly recommended.
There was nothing in particular about the hotel service itself- it is worth mentioning that it's necessary to walk a (very)short distance to the hotel as it is in a pedestrianised area where taxis cannot drive but this is a small price to pay for such quality and central location.

The receptionist was incredible. She was so helpful, she gave us a list of great food places and was not wrong about a single one of them. The room was the best room we have stayed in. Everything was within walking distance and all the places were so close we were able to do so many things every day. The whole hotel was clean and beautiful. And you can not beat the view from our sauna/balcony. The bed was comfortable and faced the ceiling to floor window. Perfect view every morning. The shower was a steam shower and was nice and spacious. My husband and I always shower together, so it's hard to find a shower that we are both comfortable in.
The sign outside could be bigger. It was roughly the size of my hand. Printed on the window facing the sidewalk. But if you research where you are staying beforehand, you can have a better idea of where the hotel is.

We were very pleased with our stay at this stylish boutique hotel. It is located smack dab in the heart of things, just steps to restaurants, bars and shops. Although other reviewers had mentioned problems with the noise level, it was not an issue for us. We actually had the pleasure of staying in two different rooms, the junior suite and the city suite. They were both very nice, sparkling clean with comfy beds and powerful showers. We did prefer the junior suite slightly, due to the private sauna located on the balcony and the view of Mount Esja and the bay. The folks at reception provided outstanding customer service. They were very friendly, warm and welcoming, happy to give recommendations or directions. A big shout out to Yingying, who went above and beyond for us. We look forward to our next stay at the Ion City Hotel and recommend it highly!
Everything was great!

Staff was friendly and helpful. We were surprised upon arrival that we had been upgraded to a suite, so that was very nice! We received a glass of champagne too and that put us in a great mood. The Rainbow Street is around the corner, as well as Dill! All kinds of coffee and breakfast spots everywhere and late night bars too!
We did get one of the bathrobes without a belt loops and a stain on the collar. It was replaced immediately, however. Again, the staff is very accommodating.

We had a very warm welcome from the receptionist. He was very helpful to make the most of our short stay in Reykjavik. The hotel is located in the heart of the old town. Nice modern rooms. Everything you need for a short stay. We didn’t have breakfast not sure if you can.
Nothing for us but be aware that there is quite a bit of noise from the street and surrounding bars. We stayed at the ION on a Thursday night. Don’t know until what time the bars where open cause we fell asleep at 11pm.

This hotel was great! The staff greeted us with a glass of champagne, which really set the tone to our trip! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We had a coffee machine and a water kettle. We didn't need anything. Would definitely stay here again.
Friday and Saturday nights can be a bit loud since there are late night bars on every corner...but as they say: if you can't beat them, join them!

Lovely room with a nice view and great amenities. Really enjoyed the stay. I was very positively surprised by the design.
Staff at the reception was unpleasant and couldn't say a single word in Icelandic. I was expecting better service for that price. That was the biggest disappointment I faced during my stay.
