Motel was very comfy and had a lovely balcony with view of the lake and over to Tongariro National Park. Beds were comfy and had a useful kitchen. We booked one at the front to have the view. Handy free laundry which was very handy near the end of our trip. Big room and the bathroom was also quite large. Huge spa bath but we didn't use it. Great shower. We were able to walk into the main shopping area with plenty of restaurants in about 20 minutes along the lake front. There are some really good restaurants and cafes. We enjoyed going to hot sand beach and feeling the hot sand and little pools with hot water about a 10 minute the opposite way. We didn't swim in the lake but plenty of people were.

First impressions are everything and Sonya the Manager was outstanding in how we were greeted and couldn't be more helpful. Location was perfect as we used Taupo as our base to explore other areas. This hotel is situated about a 20min stroll away from the main town area but we liked that because the walk was simply gorgeous by the Lake. The view was lovely, we had a second floor unit at the back and were still able to enjoy Lake Taupo sunsets from the balcony. The room was a great size with a large comfy bed. As we stayed 4 nights the kitchenette was very handy and impressed there was a laundry near reception. Our room was serviced everyday as well which was awesome, not many places will do that over a long stay.

We had a studio overlooking the lake on the second floor. It was a beautiful view. The room was large with plenty of space and a kitchenette. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The little verandah overlooked the lake and we used it often. There is a laundry with washer and dryer and free laundry detergent. It is only a short walk into Taupo for good restaurants and cafes. Bantry Restaurant is just around the corner and is superb.

The light in the car park at the front shone into the bedroom. Apart from that, it was a lovely room with a view. The laundry has just one washing machine and one dryer, and had a lot of use from the guests. Consequently we couldn't use the dryer, and had to hang our washing around the room. Not a big drama.

Positives: - The motel is right on the waterfront and had an awesome view. - Even though it was right on the waterfront you couldn't hear the traffic, which was a nice bonus. - Easy parking. Parking in town was free as well if you need to drive. - The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed for a weekend away so didn't really need to eat-out, but there are also great options in town (which was within walking distance)! - Bed was comfortable.

We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment during the summer and the bedroom was quite hot at night. There was airconditioning in the living area but this did not extend into the bedroom.

View was great, Bed was very comfortable. Loved the presentation in the bathroom of the towels and soaps etc. Very clean and well-presented room. Was welcomed warmly and staff were very helpful.

I was there for a work function and my husband stayed in to watch the rugby, he found the TV very small for the size of the room. The tiles in the entrance were very cold so a mat might be good. The extractor fan in the bathroom is very loud so not so relaxing when having a soak. Only minor things, over all a great stay!

I loved this accommodation, we stayed 2 nights, check in was very easy, the room was perfect for me and my husband, lots of parking spaces, the lake was right across the road, where we went for a quick dip, ice cream and coffee near by. Town is far enough to escape the noise but also close enough to drive there and do some shopping etc. We had the rooms at the back with a view and it was so beautiful, you can still see with privacy. Great place to stay, I will definitely book again.

Such a great location overlooking the lake. It was so nice to have a separate bedroom plus large seating/kitchenette, which was well stick with equipment. It was good to be able to do a couple of lots of washing (and dry it) all for nothing.

I would have given the place full marks except our room wasn’t serviced as part of the booking and had to go to reception to ask for more teabags, forgot to ask for more coffee bags, as nobody had been serviced.

Friendly reception who gave helpful advice on nearby restaurants/shops, much appreciated! A lovely room that was clean, bright, well furnished and comfortable. After a busy day travelling, it was great to be able to sit back and relax in this comfortable room. Good facilities and all the furnishings. Bed was nice as well and provided a good night's sleep, with good air con too. Mind you, with the breeze from the lake, you wouldn't need it!

I liked that it was straight across from the Lake and close to town. It also had sky tv. The unit was a great size with 2 exit doors. It was nice and breezy with both doors open.

Parking. I feel units should have allocated numbered parking. I went to town came back and a trailer was parked in a car park just out front of our unit. I parked around the corner and was getting very bad looks the next day from another person staying. I had taken “their” park.

Very well equipped unit! Nice walking distance to both downtown Taupo and my uncle's home. Being by the lake with a view was a bonus! The managers were really friendly and had several good tips for breakfast and dinner spots in town. We were so happy with the free laundry, especially after a muddy few days in the Tongariro National Park. We would definitely choose Sails on a next visit to Taupo.

While the view was great, we hadn't realized that the motel was located on the main road into town. We found it a bit noisy as we like to sleep with open windows. We stayed at Sails again after a few days at Tongariro National Park and had a room at the back, which was much quieter.
