I have to say that we had the best hotel experience so far. The location is peaceful and perfect for relaxing and recharging. We were amazed by the beautiful gardens and pleasantly surprised to find a permanent hotel guest, Colombo – a tortoise living in the gardens. We miss this charming old fellow; he left a lasting impression on us 🥰 The staff took excellent care of us and went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary restrictions, making us feel very special throughout our stay. The room was spotless and comfortable, and we loved the heated pool area. The food was fantastic, especially the breakfast with its many delicious options. It’s hard to get back to normal life after that. A big shout out to all the hardworking staff! 🙌

We stayed in this beautiful hotel 20 years ago. Whilst Madeira has changed quite a lot, Quinta Jardins do Lago has not. The gardens now have Botanical Garden status because of the hard work the Owners have put in. This Hotel is THE place to stay on the island because it is a long way away from the Hotel District and it is Madeira as it was before the tourist boom. The staff are all lovely, kind and friendly, the food is very good and the room cleaning is amazing. Everyone at Quinta Jardins do Lago is doing everything they possibly can to make your stay the best possible. Even tho’ most people these days prefer to walk the 15 minutes down to the historic centre of Funchal, the Hotel offers a free amazing bus service every hour down to the harbour at Funchal.

The gardens are magnificent and extremely well maintained. The staff are both friendly and helpful and do their utmost to make everyone feel comfortable. The rooms are cosy and clean and the beds comfortable. All in all, à great choice for a relaxing holiday and good value for money.

Nothing to dislike although we did find the restaurant quite expensive for food that was good but not exceptional. We would have eaten there more often had the prices been more reasonable.

The property was exceptionally maintained throughout and in the garden . It was a tranquil oasis but in easy reach of Funchal particularly with the courtesy transport provided which runs throughout the day. In fact with day tours that pick up from various hotels ,including Quinta Jardins Do Lago , you don’t really need a rental car. All of the staff provide exceptional customer service and really care about their guests. Their smiling and happy demeanour makes for a pleasant experience. The food is excellent. The 7 course vegetarian menu that was prepared for the gala night on new year eve was fantastic and imaginative . The hotel is very well placed to view the excellent firework display.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like

Our stay at Quinta Jardins do Lago was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. The lush gardens, serene atmosphere, and impeccable service made it a true oasis in Madeira. The rooms were spacious and spotless, with charming details and beautiful views. A special mention must go to the massage therapists – their skill, care, and professionalism took our relaxation to the next level. If you're staying here, don't miss the chance to book a treatment. It's truly one of the highlights of the hotel. We can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

The only downside? We had to leave. Honestly, the biggest problem with this hotel is that you’ll never want to check out!

The hotel overlooks Funchal with stunning, panoramic views of the town. It is a quiet location, very well furnished with a truly stunning botanical garden. The staff are all very polite and attentive but some struggled a bit with understanding English.

The food at the hotel is not five-star quality. On our first day we ordered steak sandwiches, which arrived raw and bleeding. The breakfast was good but not exceptional - certainly not what you’d expect from a 5-star hotel. It’s a shame that such a stunning hotel is let down by poor food. For most people, taxis are a must. While it is possible to walk down to Funchal, the steep walk from Funchal to the hotel would require exceptional fitness.

This is a fabulous hotel. It is set in the most beautiful well maintained gardens which are an attraction in themselves. The building is kept up to date and the bedrooms are spacious and well appointed. The public areas are lovely and the dining room in the old manor house is a feature. The staff are exceptional, making you feel like a valued customer at every interaction. They were happy and smiley and welcoming at all times. The restaurant was outstanding. We usually eat out several nights during a stay away, but the food was so good that we dined in every night! The Pool area does not disappoint - it is very clean and kept immaculate by the team. Whilst the hotel is set up away from the centre, the courtesy bus means that it is only 10 minutes away. It also means that it is in a very peaceful spot. We will be returning!

Everything. The property is exceptionally beautiful and spacious, providing a calm and welcoming ambience. This applies to the public areas as well as the rooms. The gardens are wonderful. We found wandering along the paths, discovering a truly fascinating selection of plants and trees, is a lovely way to spend some quiet hours. There are some pleasant, quiet, scenic spots to sit. Every member of staff is friendly and polite, and they carry out their roles with great attention to detail, creating a very happy ambience. We enjoyed the leisurely dining experience, the food is full of flavour and beautifully presented.

There is nothing about this lovely place to complain about.

This is marvelous lodging located in XVIII century mansion surrounded by a large beautiful garden. Wins by far with any other place we have seen in Madeira, especially with big luxurious concrete hotels on the Funchal bay. Rooms comfortable, splendid breakfasts served among flowers and various exotic plants, nice and helpful staff. And beautiful heated pool with plenty of space for rest. Highly recommended for stay in Funchal.

The only setback, however not diminishing overall highly positive experience, was the restaurant – we had dinner there once, and some lunches at the pool bar, and frankly speaking all were not good.

The breakfast space is one of the most wonderful I've seen (the breakfast itself was very good too, with quality products). Very professional and friendly staff (I didn't catch the name of the receptionist who checked me in, but she was great), the free shuttle to the center is a nice touch. The main old quinta building (which houses the restaurant, evening bar, and a lovely library) is stunning and stylishly decorated. The wilder parts of the garden are amazing, too, and so are the views. My room (standard double on the ground floor) was clean and spacious; I especially liked the bathroom.

If I were to find fault with anything, I think a nicer kettle and coffee maker could be expected in a hotel of this class (at present it's a basic white plastic kettle, and no wonder they keep it hidden away in the cupboard:) The pool area naturally becomes the centre of hotel life during the day (it's a proper large pool where you can swim and not just soak, and there's a bistro on site, which of course is convenient) and it has a bit different feel than the rest of the tranquil premises (to be fair, I loved that there was no music). Maybe it would be nice to have adults-only hours there, or, in the future, a even smaller adults-only pool at the far end of the extensive garden, for loners like me:) Still 10/10 though!
