Very helpful and friendly service. Location and view from our room right over the plaza. Small proper balcony that we could sit out on; needed an additional chair which they delivered immediately. Kettle etc. in the room. Complimentary water. Minibar fridge so not that cold but we were able to put some of our stuff in. Separate shower and loo. Safe provided. Tasteful reception/breakfast area. Whole place air conditioned. Rooftop pool small but quite popular especially late afternoon.

Only one place to put a suitcase! Absolutely nowhere else to keep a second suitcase open except the floor in front of the minibar. And let’s face it - who completely unpacks for a 2-night stay. Room quite small and big ‘chunks’ missing - but then it is an (expensive) city hotel. Horrible plastic black chair - please get rid!

Location was perfect for exploring

The position of the hotel is excellent, the historical importance of the building and the design of the hotel, the hygiene, the room, the comfort of the bed and pillows, the efficiency of the maids. we didn't have breakfast and dinner at the hotel (so many tapas bars and tavernas as well as Mercado de Miguel nearby 😄) so we can't rate that

The pool and spa are small but very nice, but require renovation (repair and expansion of the jacuzzi, installation of a Turkish bath - there is enough space, bicycles and other things in the gym - there is space)

Our room was really quiet even though we were right behind busy Plaza Mayor. The detail/ interior design of the hotel elevates the whole experience. Loved the two swimming pools. Breakfast had a wide selection and it was good - liked the glass ceiling, plants. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Being keen swimmers we would’ve really liked to swim some laps in the outside pool in the morning but it doesn’t open till 11am Omelette for breakfast both days was dry.

Pestana Plaza Mayor was our base for a week’s vacation in Madrid, which was also our first time visiting the city properly, and we could not have been happier. We had a wonderful experience. To begin with, we were welcomed with a glass of cava at check-in and provided with the warmest and most helpful introduction to the hotel and what it offered. The location was perfect. Everything we wanted to see and do, all the restaurants and bars on our list to check-out, were all within walking distance. For further out destinations, the metro is conveniently located as well. It made exploring the city but being able to jump back to the hotel for a swim or to drop off some shopping so easy and convenient. The hotel overlooks the Plaza Mayor so you can enjoy the touristy bustle of that, but most rooms, unless they are specific suites with a square view, don’t open out onto it, so you don’t need to be disturbed by the noise of the square if you’d prefer not to be. The facilities are gorgeous, especially the rooftop pool and bar, which is the perfect oasis if you want some relief from the heat of the day. Sunset up there is particularly stunning. There’s also the subterranean spa and pool, which is open until 11pm, so you can enjoy a really soothing and refreshing dip and sauna before bed (which I did more than once and it was as heaven). The hotel itself is beautiful, the terrace bar / restaurant on the square is lovely, and the garden / conservatory style restaurant inside is gorgeous and tranquil. The standard rooms are small but that didn’t bother us; we were out most of the day. The main thing is that they were clean, extremely comfortable and well appointed. Being able to make a little espresso in my room and take it up to the rooftop to enjoy by the pool in the morning was a delight. There’s a spa offering facials, massages and another range of treatments. I sadly didn’t partake in this, purely because of time, but I wish I had. It looked stunning.

I absolutely loved this hotel. The staff was amazing. The rooms were gorgeous and extremely comfortable. The location could not have been any better. We loved the spa, the pool, the restaurant. Every single thing about this hotel was perfect! I want to go back right now! We only stayed one night. We were with a group and we got there a day early. The hotel that we stayed in after this for the rest of the week cost six times more and was not near as nice. The people were not as nice. The food was not as good. I wish we could have stayed here the entire time.

Honestly, there was not one thing that I did not like at this hotel. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was amazing!!!

Location is amazing - right on the Plaza Mayor (while still very quiet inside), and therefore within easy walking distance of most points of interest. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Beds are very comfortable (we had the extra large which was probably 180x200). Quiet and effective air conditioning.

The toilet was difficult to flush, it kept running so we needed to flush twice each time (which uses a lot of water). Also you do hear the water running from showers and toilets in other rooms.

The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was adequate. It wasn't rich, but it wasn't scarce either. The location is perfect and is great for tourists travelling not for leisure. The room was quite clean.

If you only speak English, explaining things to the staff might be problematic as there is a language barrier. The room is very small for that kind of money and the design is not practical at all. The shower is separate and the sink is located in the room, so when you go to wash your hands or sneeze, everyone in the room will see or hear it. The air conditioning works in a very weird way and if you set the temperature to 20, it could blow the whole night or not blow at all, regardless of the temperature in the room. Overall, I would say that if the rooms were designed properly, it would be a 10/10, but is 8/10 for now.

The location of Playa Major was nothing short of breathtaking! Every moment spent was a grand delight, and the scenic surroundings of the hotel truly amplified the overall experience. It was truly a treat coupled with the luxurious amenities of the hotel, made for the most rejuvenating stay ever. I couldn't have asked for a better place to work from.

On the initial night, the atmosphere in the room was quite sweltering, which made me unsure if the air-conditioning unit was functioning effectively. However, upon bringing it to the attention of the hotel staff, I was impressed by their prompt response as they took swift action and resolved the issue. In fact, not only did they improve the air-conditioning unit, but they also went over and beyond to compensate me for any inconvenience caused by offering a delectable bottle of wine. Overall, this experience truly exemplified the exceptional service provided by the hotel staff.

We had an amazing trip - the hotel was beautiful and in the perfect location. The staff were amazing and very attentive (eg provided us with great dinner recommendations). The breakfast was a highlight every day - so many options and great quality. Another amazing thing the hotel did was to celebrate earth day by turning off all lights for an hour in the evening in the communal areas and lighting lots of candles which was beautiful as well as being a great cause.

Everything was great - some small critiques - the rooms were a bit smaller than expected but everything about them was very good. The gym was small but the rest of the building was incredible.
