An extensive range of scrumptious breakfast options was on offer, and the personnel were cordial and attentive. Although the room was tidy and roomy, it did not meet the expectations of a five-star hotel. Additionally, the outdoor balcony was unclean and subpar. It would have been preferable if the balcony was maintained to a higher standard. However, I was thoroughly pleased with the location, which was superb.

I made a reservation for three rooms at Gall Face Hotel for my family members. Upon arrival, I was accompanied by a driver, but unfortunately, the hotel did not have designated quarters for drivers. The front office manager informed me about this situation and as a result, I had to pay for an additional room. I find this to be a significant flaw of Gall Face Hotel and I think it is a way for the hotel to indirectly charge customers more money. In my opinion, it is unfair that the hotel expects guests to pay for their driver's accommodation. Ideally, the hotel should provide accommodations for drivers who bring guests to the hotel.

Great location...good value for money...very good breakfast buffet. Food and restaurant choice is good and reasonably priced. Staff made the difference very friendly..helpful and professional.Pool , health club are great... a great selection of in room TV and news channels are also available .The hotel has alot of history going back to 1864 and their in house museum is well worth a visit. The daily 6pm taking down the flag ceremony with the piper in full kilt Uniform playiing his bagpipes is iconic and a must see.There Christmas decorations were incredible.

As with all historical buildings upkeep and maintenance can be an issue...but the team can fix anything in a short period of time.

This is a lovely hotel and perfect for an end of trip rest and relax. I wouldn’t stay there at the beginning of my holiday as I wouldn’t be inclined to leave. They have nice food, a great pool and cool, big rooms with lots of charm. Reception checkin staff was wonderful as were the lovely gentlemen opening doors.

It is a big hotel and lacks the personal touch but this is to be expected with lots of rooms and guests and solo travellers go under the radar. Scammers operate outside of the hotel on the main road - this isn’t the hotel’s issue but just for noting. Also, other guests were incredibly noisy in the hallways of the hotel talking well into the night. I’m not sure what can be done about that but it did detract from a quiet night’s sleep.

It's a pity that there is loud music in all restaurants/ bars in the evening. One quiet location where you can converse freely and undisturbed would be great. Or at last one location with a more muted, ambient sound.

The hotel is in a fabulous location and the main lobby area and interconnecting rooms and corridors are very well decorated. The beach side facilities are also excellent. And the staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. A real pleasure to stay at the hotel.

Our booking said that we had a garden room, but room 4010 looked out over roof tops and air handling units. Altogether a rather scruffy view. When we queried our room location/view, we were told that we'd been upgraded and now had a sea view. Strictly speaking this was true, but by no means a pleasant or satisfying view. Also the windows were salt encrusted/very dirty, so the view was impaired. Conversely, the garden rooms all appeared to have a garden and a sea view. So, all told, not too impressed and wonder if aggregator site bookings are the first to get downgraded.

I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels over the years. Sri Lanka is my 63rd country, but there’s something truly special about the Galle Face Hotel. It’s elegant, full of character, and steeped in history. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out -staff were exceptionally friendly, helped with our luggage, and made us feel genuinely welcome. We were even upgraded to a suite, which was such a lovely surprise. The room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and came with thoughtful touches like dental kits, vanity kits, and other amenities that really added to the comfort. On our first evening, we enjoyed drinks at Fire Beach -great cocktails, relaxed atmosphere, and delicious snacks right by the ocean. It was the perfect way to start our stay. This hotel has a timeless charm that’s hard to describe. It felt like a privilege to stay here. Highly recommend.

This is a beautiful, old colonial hotel that we thoroughly enjoyed. It has a lot of character and is beautifully decorated on the inside. The rooms were very spacious and equipped with all the comforts we needed. What impressed us most was the food — both breakfast and dinner were simply outstanding. The buffet was more extensive than we could have hoped for. It was our first introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine, and we loved it. On the second day, we were in the mood for a more Western-style breakfast, and even then, the selection was excellent.

It’s all part of the hotel’s charming old colonial character, of course — and that charm is very much intact. However, some areas, especially the exterior of the building, could use a bit of an update. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it faded glory, because it certainly isn’t. But if the hotel aims to truly meet five-star standards, a fresh coat of paint and some minor touch-ups in certain spots would make a big difference.

Nothing - it’s brilliant But likely curmudgeons will complain that the standard rooms are small, only the better ones have sea view and the floors are squeaky - let them stay elsewhere I say - let’s keep it for us who know!

My family and I had an excellent stay at the Galle Face Hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our two week trip around Sri Lanka and it was the perfect place to relax and recharge ahead of a long flight home. The hotel is full of old school glamour and charm and the staff were incredible - always going above and beyond for their guests. One small watch out - beware the tuk tuk drivers that hang out outside the hotel. I always found I could get taken for half the price by turning the corner and hailing one from the main room. Also, always agree the price upfront and do not trust the meters!! THESE ARE A SCAM!!

We booked a basic garden view room for our last evening in Colombo, plans to explore around the hotel area were disrupted by the May Day rally on Galle Face Green. The hotel was well organised to manage the nearby event with solutions in place for hotel guests. We arrived at the hotel early to avoid the traffic disruptions, and the head concierge Emmanuel managed our situation in a very positive way by enabling us to check into the room earlier than standard check in time. His manner was considerate and hospitable; he personally escorted us to the room which was an upgrade on the room we had booked. We enjoyed time by the swimming pool, used the spa for a full body massage and watched the sunset flag lowering ceremony. A light dinner and drinks on the verandah overlooking the ocean - it was a wonderful experience. The room itself was quiet, clean considering the age of the hotel. I would return. Thank you, Emmanuel, for the kind hospitality.
