Mostly everything. I don’t write this lightly. I rarely give such high praise but, we found everything to be better than expected, really. We will definitely return to Zermatt and when we do, this hotel will be our no.1 choice. The location was very nice and central, close to the Gornergrat railway line on one side and to the river on the other. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a room with views of the Matterhorn, which normally would have cost almost double our booked room’s price (and I wouldn’t say we booked a cheap room given its price), and from our balcony had views both of the Gornergrat train and the Matterhorn. The hotel had a hotel shuttle to pick you up and drop you off to the railway station. We were backpacking so it made things easier. I liked all the staff quite a lot as well. The girls in reception, especially, were extremely helpful and spoke very good english. The pool and sauna areas were lovely. Just what we needed after a long day of trekking. As it happens we didn’t think of bringing a swim suit with us as we figured we wouldn’t have the time. However, a rainy day turned things around for us and we were able to borrow some swimming suits from the hotel (thankfully not having to buy any just for a day) and relax in the Spa area where the Jacuzzi made all the aches go away. The restaurant and bar areas were great as well and all the monitors were very helpful. Truthfully, if we hadn’t already planned and booked the rest of our trip, we would have probably stayed a couple of days longer.

Nothing of importance really: - Noise outside due to the time of the year we poorly chose (shoulder season, renovations going on everywhere) - should have gone there perhaps a little later in May, maybe June - a gauge was not working in the pool area, on the right side - there was no way (stairs) to go up directly from the back terrace

In early July, we visited Zermatt and stayed at the Hotel National Zermatt for five days. The hotel has an excellent, central yet quiet location, very close to the train station, the Gornergrat Railway, the Sunnegga station, and the bus stop. We had a room with the Matterhorn view. From the balcony we saw beautiful sunrises on the Matterhorn several times. The Gornergrat Railway tracks run just beyond the hotel garden, but the trains didn't bother us because they're quiet and don't run at night. There's one older train that squeals on a curve, but it was more of a curiosity than a nuisance. We learned about it from residents of another part of the hotel and tried to catch a glimpse of it, but we weren't successful. The hotel is a medium-sized property, with large rooms and ample storage space. The beds are comfortable and soft, with a large TV opposite. A nice touch was the bed linen folded into a heart shape every day. The bathroom is well-equipped and large enough for two people. The cleanliness of the rooms and the entire facility deserves special mention. The dining room is spacious, nicely decorated, with soft chairs and seats, and overlooks the garden. The breakfast buffet is varied enough to satisfy the appetite before heading out on excursions. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in every way. It was a very pleasant stay. Thank you! It is a sight to behold to wake up in the morning to see from one’s hotel room window the majestic Matterhorn against a clear blue sky. That was our experience on day 2 at National Zermatt after a little cloud cover moved on overnight. The great service from friendly and responsive staff added to the experience of the Hotel’s superb location close to the funicular and its Matterhorn outlook.

Like everywhere else in Switzerland you pay a lot to eat in house. Either close your eyes or use one of the many Supermarkets that are nearby.

Included breakfast was plentiful and presented well. Hotel staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Front desk manager and the breakfast dining manager were especially friendly and welcoming. Balcony view was spectacular overlooking the town and mountains. Very close location to the trains and any restaurants you would want to eat. They have a shuttle to and from the train station for the mobility challenged or if you need help with your suitcases. They offered complimentary bag check to explore town upon checkout before your train leaves later in the day.

Its just few minutes by walk from train station & by one call hotel management will send vehicle to receive u and that is free service for arrival & final departure from hotel. Location & managements are excellent 👌, so friendly & helping by going out of way , especially Mr Basti his kind attitude was exceptional...thanks Mr badti u made my stay so pleasant indeed.nice view from balcony, rooms are nig & very ckean , all services provided were exceptional, if I got snother chance yo stay in Zermatt, this hotel will be my first choice .break fast was delicious.

Nice Restaurant: The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere and beautiful decorations. Excellent Facilities: The hotel boasts amazing facilities, including a pool and jacuzzi. Outstanding Staff: The staff was amiable, providing detailed explanations and excellent service. Convenient Location: Just a 7-10 minute walk from the main station. Free Transfer: The hotel offered a free transfer to the train station, adding to the convenience.

Not really

Almost everything was exceptional. We were initially welcomed by Andrea, who provided all details about our stay and then helped with ongoing questions we had. The room had a perfect view and very very clean initially and during the whole our stay (we sort of have a very high bar of expectations). We got a discount for ski rentals from the hotel and the location cannot be closer to a ski lift. Every day we enjoyed fabulous breakfast and the last night we had a dinner in the hotel restraint which was exceeding our expectations: the service was at the high level as well as food was delicious. In addition I wanted to mention the spa area, it gave us the proper relief after the whole day skiing. Having checked out we were delivered in minutes to the train station with the electric car. Finally I happened to forget my id card in the room, but it was kindly found and I got a call from the hotel. Andrea organised its sending to my home address, and I am really grateful for that.

We are used to living in the cold climate, so we were not very comfortable under heavy blankets, but we never bothered asking about their replacement with lightweight variants. I am pretty sure if we had done it, we would've gotten a proper replacement.

Hotel National Zermatt is the ideal family hotel for skiing in Zermatt. The location is perfect - right across the street from the Sunegga lift and two doors down from a great ski rental shop! The staff are friendly and professional and did an absolutely fabulous job of making us feel welcome. The hotel website does not do justice to the spa - a main pool, hot tub, and indoor baby pool, along with steam room, sauna, etc are fantastic. After a day of skiing, the spa area was perfect for our family - my husband and I enjoyed it, as did our infant and toddler. Breakfast is five stars! Hotel National has all of the luxuries and comforts a discerning traveler wants, but it's also a down to earth, family friendly place. If we return to Zermatt, we'd love to stay here again! Exceptionally clean - the staff keep everything in good order and are very responsive to guests' needs.

Our whole family had an amazing stay at this hotel! The pool and spa area were absolutely fantastic—so relaxing and well-maintained. The reception staff was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, even upgrading our room for free. They patiently introduce us a lot of useful information and provide great recommendations. The room itself was lovely, with high-quality supplies that made our stay extra comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, offering a great variety of options. I can't recommend this hotel enough!

The hotel location is very convenient and the view to the Martterhorn from the balcony is beautiful. The breakfast is wonderful and in house SPA is great for relaxing. The staffs in the reception ware very friendly and very helpful. Especially, the staff- Albano and Antina ware very nice and patience to answers our questions and give detail information for our tours in the area.
